A smart grid-base AMI (advanced Metering Infrastructure), which checks electricity consumption and controls the electric energy used with the demand response technique, is necessary for remotely managing the load of the energy and power consumed in order to comprise energy efficiency for electrical devices in homes. The smart controller calculates the amount of electricity consumed by customer on real time basis from the utility supplier like electric supply company. In this paper, we propose the hardware architecture and software of the smart controller for use as the platform in smart grid system to reduce energy consumption. The smart controller can be installed on the electric plug of the electric appliance. The smart controller grasps the energy amount used in the electric appliance and delivers to the AMI / EMS (Energy Management Server). In addition, we evaluated an experimental system to practically verify functions of the smart controller which is attached to the lighting device. From the system, we showed that the electric source of the illumination can be controlled according to the load change and saved energy effectively. We also confirmed the structural benefit and the energy-efficient effect through the verification of the smart controller.

Adaptive Optics systems for instruments on the next generation of astronomical telescopes will be of a significantly higher order than those for existing systems. The requirements for processing power for real-time computers to control such systems will be substantial and may well not be met by the simple application of the next generation of CPU based computers. We present here an overview of the various designs for future real-time computer systems that are being investigated at Durham involving the acceleration (or replacement) of CPU systems by GPU and FPGA based hardware. We address the ongoing argument of which of these technologies should be employed for which applications. We present our plans for the testing of these technologies both in the laboratory and on-sky in the CANARY AO demonstrator at the 4m William Herschel telescope, along with initial results and a design for the realtime control system for the proposed EAGLE instrument for the E-ELT.

A second-generation Berkeley automounter is being integrated into the beamline control system at the 23BM experimental station. This new device replaces the previous all-pneumatic gripper motions with a combination of pneumatics and XYZ motorized linear stages. The latter adds a higher degree of flexibility to the robot including auto-alignment capability, accommodation of a larger capacity sample Dewar of arbitrary shape, and support for advanced operations such as crystal washing, while preserving the overall simplicity and efficiency of the Berkeley automounter design. The integrated system presents a friendly telescopecontrol interface and provides functions including telescope monitoring, star targeting, star profile retrieval and star tracking. The most powerful feature of the integrated system is star tracking. By using camshift algorithm and PID controller, the star tracking module can help user track certain objects such as plant and comet.

China, high levels configuration software of Schneider Electric named Monitor Pro7 is introduced to accomplish the task of monitoring and controlling on site. Related structure diagram of the control system is shown and the function of Monitor Pro7 is emphasized. The characteristic of the project is that almost all control buttons imbedded in 238 pictures which configured under Monitor Pro7 would be used to satisfy the demands of operator, and other functions as complicate logic organization and judgment, real-time alarm and security protect are also well supported at the same time. The faults of Monitor Pro7 needed to be improved are also discussed at the end.
