The digital instrumentation and control (I&C) system has been developed and approved in Japan. Our digital I&C system has been applied to many non-safety systems and approved for full I&C system including a safety system. The fully digitalized I&C system will soon be in operation in a newly constructed plant in Japan. Based on this proven technology, the digital I&C system will be applied to the I&C system in the US-APWR. This digital I&C system is slightly improved and modified to conform to U.S. codes and standards. The I&C system of the US-APWR has some specific features. The system consisting of four systems capable of diverse echelons can ensure defense-in-depth and diversity which also achieves countermeasure against software common cause failure (CCF). In addition, the I&C system has a four-train configuration that applies to the safety human-system interface system, safety protection system and safety plant component controls. To understand the overall digital I&C system, this work provides an overview showing main components of the US-APWR.

Main mirror in LAMOST is a spherical mirror with 4 meters effective aperture, it is assembled by 37 hexagonal segments, and the orientations of these segments were adjusted by actuators to achieve optical co-focal status. Arithmetic for facing control of segmented-mirror was pre-researched in this paper, based on present condition in LAMOST. To maintain the main mirror in a facing figure and preserve it during the track is the core of this control. To achieve the facing figure, the unique method in segmented-mirror technology nowadays is that sensors working with actuators to form closed loop. Firstly, relationship between the measurement results of sensors and the movements of actuators was calculated and the figure control equation set was founded. Secondly, the characteristic of the coefficient matrix of this equation set was analyzed. Finally, several methods to solve this equation system were comprehensively analyzed. Damped Least-Squares Solution (DLS) was selected as the best for this paper, and this method was programmed to apply on the experiment of sub system, finer result was got. Petal-effect in the experiment was noticed, analysis was given to show the control of whole main mirror would get rid of petal-effect.

PvDevCom is a small application written in the python programming language for communicating with astronomical instrumentation devices (e.g. temperature monitors and controllers, motion controllers, etc.) that use serial communication interfaces. It provides a highly configurable framework for defining an interface for communicating with a serial device. The configuration information for PvDevCom is stored in all XML file which is designed to be easily read and customised. Therefore when all interface to a, new device is required., a, new configuration file for the device is all that is needed. This avoids having to write a new device specific communications application. The core PyDevCom application can be used interactively, in a Python terminal, or may be executed inside a script, providing a great deal of flexibility for testing hardware in the lab. PyDevCom has its own platform-independent GUI, based on wxPython, which automatically constructs the interface for a given device from the information in the XML configuration file. Future development for PyDevCom will add several new user interface features that include a, plug-in architecture for adding specially tailored GUI interfaces written in python. Once these features have been implemented they will extend PyDevCom to function as a lightweight instrument control system.

The U.S. Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Simulation Training and instrumentation (STRI) has established a Live Training Transformation (LT2) product line approach to developing a Family of Training Systems (FTS) that provide the ground maneuver training range functions supporting Army live and Joint training environments. The success of the LT2 program strategy is dependent on defining standards and initiatives derived to promote systematic reuse of software and interoperability solutions for the LT2 products. Application of LT2 product line standards have matured reducing life cycle development and sustainment costs through the creation of common reusable architectures providing integrated and interoperable training solutions for the LT2-FTS deployable to Army Ranges. LT2 standard initiatives cover the following primary areas of technology development: Tactical Engagement Simulation System (TESS), training instrumentation systems, software architecture, targetry and battlefield effects, and Joint Live-Virtual-Constructive interoperability. Approved and established standards include Common Training instrumentation Architecture (CTIA), OneTESS, Family of Army Systems and Integrated Targetry (FASIT), Integrated Player Unit (IPU), Common Player Unit Interface control Document (ICD), Consolidated Product Line Management (CPM), Graphical User Interface (GUI) Framework, and LT2 HCI Style guide. The LT2 standards provide industry the appropriate development guidelines and interface definitions in order to maximize industry involvement in developing product line solutions and providing advanced training capabilities through technology insertion. This paper provides an overview of how government and industry worked together to establish the LT2 standard initiatives based on common LT2-FTS use cases and details the relevant solution sets resulting in achievement of the PEO STRI mission and the LT2-FTS product line interoperability and reuse objectives. ©2008 IEEE.

A United States plant site with three very different operating units modernized those units from hardwired analog controls to advanced digital control system (DCS) technology. Unit 1 is a 250 MW CE drum boiler, Unit 2 is a 350 MW once-through B&W boiler and Unit 3 has a 820 MW FW drum type boiler. Recognizing the massive change in upgrading a control system from board controls to a computerized DCS, the utility recognized the need to train operators in a realistic environment. In addition came the realization that with the introduction of DCS technology, plant engineers would have far greater flexibility in modifying and adjusting the units operating parameters to achieve optimum performance. To meet each of these requirements, the utility decided to employ simulation technology with the follow objectives;Provide a system to train & test operators, engineers and technicians before they work on the 'live' control system. Enable the full testing of control system software and control logic prior to implementation Allow plant engineering to 'experiment' off-line with various operating parameters to enhance plant efficiency After considering several different technologies, the utility has chosen to implement a high-fidelity, fully stimulated simulator for each of their three units and incorporated "Virtual controller" technology as a platform for the simulators to minimize maintenance expense. This paper will review the design, implementation and utilization of these simulators as well as examining their utilization and success in achieving project objectives.

An infrared instrument used for observation has to keep the detector and optical components in a very cold environment during operation. However, because of maintenance. upgrades, and other routine work, there are Situations that require the instrument to be warmed-up and then cooled-down again. At Subaru Observatory, our MOIRCS infrared instrument has required warm-up and cool-down several times a year for routine maintenance and filter replacement. The MOIRCS instrument has a large heat capacity and cool-down using only the closed cycle cooler is impractical due to the huge amount of time it would require. To address this problem Subaru engineers have created a mechanism to allow PRE-COOLING of the instrument via liquid nitrogen - allowing for a Much faster pre-cool process. Even with liquid nitrogen. the pre-cool process requires 10 tanks and almost a week of continual monitoring in order to reach the desired target temperature. It is very difficult to work for such a long period of time at the oxygen starved summit of Mauna Kea (4205 meters),and issues of man-power and scheduling conflicts only add to the problems. To address these concerns Subaru developed an automated pre-cooling system which works continuously and remotely at the summit. The strategy was to have basic functionality for pre-cooling and user friendly interface. i.e. (1) Continuous Cooling until the target temperature is reached by automated liquid nitrogen tank exchanges and precision temperature control by automated changes to the liquid nitrogen flow. (2) Remote monitoring and control of all parameter setting by Web browser as user interface (UI). The goal Of the Subaru pre-cooling system was to make it both inexpensive and quick to implement by using existing technologies. The GE advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) design has implemented the applicable human factors engineering (HFE) principles in the design of human-system interfaces (HSI). The ABWR uses unique features such as large mimic and touch-screen technology to present plant overviews and system operating details to the control room operating staff. The HSI designs, both in the console panels and the software generated graphical user interfaces, have been developed and evaluated using HFE guidelines. In addition to HFE guidelines reviews performed during design and implementation, broader reviews have been performed under an HFE Verification and Validation Implementation Plan (HFE V&VIP). Based upon the NUREG-0711, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) HFE Program Review Model (HFE PRM), the HFE V&VIP, hereafter also referred to as V&V, has provided feedback during the various phases of design, implementation, and integration of the HSI. As one of the ten elements of the HFE PRM, the V&V activities reaffirm that the design of the HSI conforms to the HFE design principles and that the plant operating staff in the control room can perform their assigned tasks. This rigorous HFE V&V process is now being applied in the implementation of the ABWR design for Taiwan Power Company's Lungmen Power Station. Two 1350 MWe ABWR units are currently under construction at Lungmen. The HFE V&V ensures that the process for the design is compliant with the HFE principles. An important aspect of the Lungmen HFE program has been the direct involvement of the end user, Taiwan Power Company (TPC), throughout the design development and implementation. These HFE V&V activities, performed in three phases, ensures that the necessary displays, control, and alarms are provided to support the identified personnel tasks. The HFE V&V also checks to determine that the design of each identified component is compliant with the HFE principles. The V&V ensures, using performance based evaluations, that the HSI

This paper revisits the problem of delay-dependent dynamic output feedback control for a class of uncertain discrete-time switched linear state-delayed systems, where the state delay is assumed to be time-varying and of an interval-like type, which means that both the lower and upper bounds of the time-varying delay are available and the parameter uncertainties are assumed to have a structured linear fractional form. The objective is to design a switched dynamic output feedback controller guaranteeing the asymptotic stability of the resulting closed-loop system with disturbance attenuation level gamma. Based on a new delay-dependent switched Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional combined with Finsler's Lemma, a novel sufficient condition for robust H_(infinity) performance analysis is first derived and then the corresponding controller synthesis is developed. It is shown that the controller parameters can be obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities, which are numerically efficient with commercially available software. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the advantages and less conservatism of the proposed approach in comparison with the existing approaches.
