Compact Disc Recordable (CD-R) and Digital Versatile Disc Recordable (DVD-R) are discs where enormous mounts of digital data can be recorded. The reflection, absorption and transmission rate of laser beam in the layer of CD-R at 780 nm and DVD-R at 650 nm with no reflecting layer were numerically calculated and optical properties of a dye film was measured. The results indicate that it is preferable to use dye as the recording media with n and k value in the range of 2.0 to 2.8 and 0.02 to 0.22, respectively. Thermal properties of these dye materials were analyzed by Differential Scanning Calorie (DSC) method. The decomposition temperature of dyes were varied from 200 to 300 degrees C resulted from different methine length, substitutes and counter anions. The optical recording mechanism of CD-R and DVD-R were also briefly discussed based on the above results.

The thermal stability of amorphous TbFeCo films covered with the protective AIN films prepared by the RF magnetron sputtering system was studied, in order to understand the degradation kinetics in rare-earth transition metal films. The changes of anisotropy K-u, Kerr rotation angle theta(k) and coercivity H-C with annealing time were measured with the automatic magnetic torque apparatus and the automatic measurement system of MO Kerr effect, respectively. data clearly show that stress relaxation is responsible for the decrease in the magneto-optical properties after thermal annealing. Furthermore, annealing studies reveal that the thermal stability of magneto-optical properties improves with increasing Ar sputtering pressure-a trend that is in conflict with the tendency for films sputtered under low Ar pressure to be more oxidation resistant. This trend is attributed to the large stress component that exists at low Ar pressures and its tendency to decrease as a result of annealing.

In general, phase change media have to be initialized prior to recording, Initialization for phase change optical disks involves crystallization of as-deposited amorphous recording films, An initialization-free technology will lead to a low production cost, which is very important for commercializing phase change optical disks. A crystallization assisted layer (CA layer) was deposited just before the sputtering of a recording layer GeSbTe. The CA layer is to assist to crystallize GeSbTe film during sputtering. We have confirmed by X-ray diffraction method that the recording layer was crystallized just after sputtering. Our proposed disk with CA layer show the similar performance to the 2.6GBytes digital video disk-random access memory (DVD-RAM) disk.

Tools for selective proactive as well as reactive information retrieval and knowledge discovery constitute some of the key enabling technologies for managing the data overload and translating recent advances in automated data acquisition, digital storage, computers and communications into fundamental advances in decision support, scientific discovery and related applications. This paper describes an implementation of intelligent, customizable mobile software agents for information retrieval and knowledge discovery from distributed data sources. These tools are part of the Distributed Knowledge Network (DKN) toolbox that is being developed at the Iowa State University's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Experiments with retrieval of journal paper abstracts demonstrate the feasibility of using machine learning to design mobile intelligent agents for customized information retrieval. A similar approach has been successfully employed for knowledge discovery (using machine learning) from distributed data collections.

It is also the very convenient aided method for us to see the real beam size and stricture. In this paper, we will discuss the physic characters of detector and cable in both of electromagnet wave and photon beam. Our main study is how to measure the signal finest and how to transfer signal data into computer on-line fast enough. The system signal is relative to transfer model and photo sensor, and it is so easy to find a good real time beam signal for us to see moveable electron beam image as best as the system does. We can analysis the beam character and its parameters in one smart system. At the end we introduce some analysis results and new design ideas. It will have more potential prospects on industry application and other applications.

optical disk technology is a comprehensive one, consisting of many different essential technologies, such as optics, laser diode, actuator, accessing, signal processing, as well as mastering, stamping, replication and recording film. Recording density increase is achieved by reducing the light spot diameter, which determines the physical resolution in both writing and reading the data. The light spot diameter is conventionally reduced by shortening the laser wavelength and increasing a numerical aperture of the objective lens.
