The continuous increase in operating frequencies in information processing and transmission systems, as well as the development and improvement of the element base for the implementation of such systems, naturally led to the emergence of photonics as a direction using optical signals where electrical signals were traditionally used. At the same time, the emergence of new technologies and devices is associated with their high cost, which limits their distribution and implementation in modern technological processes. Modern communication networks rely on optical fiber networks to transmit various sensitive information among different organizations. With the evolution of fifth-generation telecom technologies, such as intelligent hyper-connected networks, the concentration of all transmission information on optical communication networks has become prevalent. Consequently, ensuring the security of optical transmission devices has become paramount. Establishing secure communication between optical access network nodes presents a significant challenge due to reported instances of hacking into optical cables, rendering the optical communication medium vulnerable to eavesdropping. Therefore, there is a pressing need for complementary security measures. This paper proposes a lightweight yet effective secure key distribution strategy to enhance the network security of optical communication. The proposed Key Exchange (KE) protocols, focusing on symmetric key sharing (SKS) and Secure Key Update (SKU), are subjected to Scyther-based security simulations to demonstrate their security. Additionally, an informal security analysis is provided to showcase the resilience of the SKS and SKU algorithms against various security attacks. Computational benchmarks show that both algorithms require fewer computational, communication, and storage resources during the key generation phase compared to related authentication protocols.

Cameras play an increasingly important role in mobile devices and intelligent systems. With the development of technology, the resolution of the camera continues to improve and the images become much clearer. However, image quality is easily affected by lens shake. optical stabilization technology improves the shooting stability as well as image quality of mobile devices by overcoming image blur which is caused by lens shake. In the current camera modules of smart devices, the voice coil motor (VCM) drives the lens movement. However, the traditional VCMs contain permanent magnets, thus generating stray magnetic fields and affecting the quality of captured images. Compared with VCM technology, shape memory alloy (SMA) motors driven by shape memory alloys have the advantages, such as lighter weight, higher accuracy, greater thrust, and lower energy consumption. But there are still some issues with the current SMA motors. To begin with, there is a control problem of SMA wire, and the current control algorithms are difficult to achieve high-precision control of SMA wire. What's more, the strain range of SMA wires used in current SMA motors is limited, so their application in certain fields are restricted. A SMA motor with a larger shrinkage of SMA wire was designed, which could be used in larger lenses and whose application range was extended. Given the hysteresis effect of SMA, a Hammerstein-like model was established to describe the dynamic hysteresis characteristics of SMA. The Prandtl Ishlinskii model was used to describe the static hysteresis model of SMA, and the Nonlinear AutoRegressive network with eXogenous inputs (NARX) model was used to describe the dynamic model of SMA and predict its properties. A composite control scheme based on inverse compensation was designed to eliminate the dynamic hysteresis phenomenon of SMA, using the PI inverse model as the feed-forward controller and BP-FOPID as the feedback controller. In energy- and bandwidth-limited networks, frequency-domain diffusion algorithms based on periodic communication are attractive candidates because of their low computational complexity and communication overhead. Nevertheless, these algorithms assume that intermediate estimates are transmitted exactly in each communication round, which is not realistic in practice. To this end, this paper proposes novel frequency-domain diffusion algorithms with quantized communication. Using the randomized quantizer to compress the shared information, we first develop the quantized frequency-domain diffusion least mean square (Q-FDLMS) algorithm. To mitigate the performance degradation incurred by quantization errors, the improved Q-FDLMS (IQ-FDLMS) algorithm is also designed. This enhanced version modifies the combination step and incorporates the moving-average scheme. Additionally, the mean-square stability conditions and steady-state error bound of the IQ-FDLMS algorithm are derived. Experiment results indicate that our proposed algorithms are superior to other competing algorithms. © 2025 SPIE.

Spatial and Temporal Evolution of Wetlands in the Yellow River Delta Based on optical Flow Algorithm

The Yellow River Delta (YRD) wetlands are the largest coastal wetlands in China, and it serves to control soil erosion, nourish the climate and protect biodiversity. At present, due to climate change and human activities, the wetlands of the YRD are facing ecological and environmental problems such as species invasion, vegetation degradation, and biodiversity reduction. In order to study the evolution of wetland landscape types more intuitively, this paper proposed a semantic segmentation network based on the encoder and decoder structure of ResNet-18. Then, the wetland landscapes in the YRD were classified into five types by combining the Landsat series of remote sensing images. In addition, this paper used the optical flow algorithm to visualize the identification results, which can represent the evolution pattern of wetland landscape types in different years. The results of this paper have an important significance for the subsequent development planning and protection in the YRD.

With the rapid development of the internet and information technology, the traditional encryption methods suffer from drawbacks such as poor processing capacity and low security, making them vulnerable to attacks. This paper presents a hybrid encryption algorithm that combines the Lorenz chaotic system and the generalized Arnold transform to enhance information security and confidentiality in digital images. The proposed quantum encryption scheme involves two stages: interfering with pixel coordinate information and grayscale values using the generalized Arnold transform, followed by spatial domain scrambling of pixel positions using the Lorenz chaotic system. MATLAB simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm in achieving the desired confusion and diffusion of pixel values, making it a superior encryption method for cryptography. © 2025 SPIE.

With the development of science and technology, radar has been widely used in both civil and military fields, and radar target classification and recognition is an important research direction in radar signal processing field. The traditional classification and recognition technology does not utilize all the information of echo, and the recognition rate will decrease obviously when the environment is too complicated and the SNR is low. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes three recognition algorithms. It is a fusion feature multi-objective classification algorithm based on multi-scale feature residual network (MKRN), a fusion feature multi-objective classification algorithm based on adaptive scale feature residual network (AKRN) and a fusion feature multi-objective classification algorithm based on adaptive scale feature multi-level branch residual network (AKSRN). These three algorithms introduce residual structure to avoid network degradation caused by the deepening of network depth, and use convolution kernel of different sizes to enhance the ability of the network to extract multi-scale feature information, which improves the accuracy of network classification and recognition. © 2025 SPIE.

Structured light beams, in particular, those carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM), have gained a lot of attention due to their potential for enlarging the transmission capabilities of communication systems. However, the use of OAM-carrying light in communications faces two major problems, namely distortions introduced during propagation in disordered media, such as the atmosphere or optical fibers, and the large divergence that high-order OAM modes experience. While the use of nonorthogonal modes may offer a way to circumvent the divergence of high-order OAM fields, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have shown promise for solving the mode-distortion issue. Unfortunately, current AI-based algorithms make use of large-amount data-handling protocols that generally lead to large processing time and high power consumption. Here, we show that a low-power, low-cost image sensor can act as an artificial neural network that simultaneously detects and reconstructs distorted OAM-carrying beams. We demonstrate the capabilities of our device by reconstructing (with a 95% efficiency) individual Vortex, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG), and Bessel modes, as well as hybrid (nonorthogonal) coherent superpositions of such modes. Our work provides a potentially useful basis for the development of low-power-consumption, light-based communication devices.

This paper presents a reconfigurable matrix operations for optical digital computing using microring resonator (MMR) array assisted by ZnS-SiO2/Ge2Sb2Te5 superlattice (GST-SL) phase-change material (PCM). By overlaying the GST-SL onto the MMR array, the resonant state of each MMR element can be adjusted according to the assigned matrix weights, thereby modifying the optical matrix transfer function to yield specific logical operations. This device combines both nonlinear and linear operations to achieve the building blocks, including logic minterms and maxterms, for complex logic functions. Based on the basic logic units, combinational logic functions such as full addition and full subtraction have been numerically demonstrated. Our nanostructure reduces computational complexity and provides a basis for future array expansion, offering a promising new approach for integrated optical computing and optical signal processing. © 2025 SPIE.

This paper presents a novel microring resonator (MRR)-based all-optical tunable temporal differentiator. By modulating the crystallinity of the ZnS-SiO2/Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST-SL) phase change material (PCM), the coupling regime of the MRR can be precisely adjusted, achieving a differentiation order (α) range of 0.7-1.3. Experimental validation with non-return-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) signal types demonstrates a strong alignment with theoretical models, maintaining an error margin below 7.3%, which confirms the device's high adjustability and stability. The proposed tuning mechanism enables low-energy, high-speed optical control of MRR states, contributing to optimized chip area and power consumption. Supported by the unique characteristics of the superlattice structure, this all-optical tunable differentiator offers promising potential for large-scale AI-driven photonic integrated circuits, particularly in applications such as optical analog computing, optical image processing, and optical neural networks. © 2025 SPIE.
