While Augmented Reality (AR) glasses are now instrumental in industries for delivering work-related information, the current one-size-fits-all information provision of AR glasses fails to cater to diverse workers’ needs and environmental conditions. We propose a framework for harnessing Internet of thing (IoT) and wearable technology to improve the adaptability and customization of information provision by AR. As a preliminary exploration, this short paper develops a multi-modal data processing system for work performance classification in the aviation industry. Using machine learning algorithms for multi-modal feature extraction and classifier construction, this framework provides a more objective and consistent evaluation of work performance compared to single-modal approaches. With the growing processing power of computing systems and the increasing availability of massive datasets, machine learning algorithms have led to major breakthroughs in many different areas. This applies also to resource-constrained IoT and edge devices, which will often benefit from relatively small - but smart - local anomaly detection tasks that aim at protecting the device, or the information they convey from sensors towards a central node. This provides the device with fault detection capabilities that are typically required when engineering dependable devices, services or systems. This paper overviews a pitfall-free process to provide small devices with anomaly detection capabilities, to make them self-aware of their health condition, and possibly take appropriate countermeasures. Our methodology applies to a wide range of Linux-based devices: we show an application to a specific ARANCINO device, which has already been successfully used in many smart cities and sensing applications. We craft anomaly detectors that are very effective in detecting most of the anomalies. Additionally, we comment on the beneficial impact of time-series analysis, which could help improve detection performance even further, allowing to equip any small device with responsive and accurate anomaly detection machinery. © 2023 IEEE.

Single-cell RNA sequencing allows to discovery of new cell subtypes based on transcriptomic information. Clustering analysis is an effective approach for exploring single-cell heterogeneity. Nevertheless, current single-cell clustering methodologies are challenged by the high-dimensional, sparse, and dropouts on the one hand, and on the other hand, they neglect the thorough exploration of potential relationships between cells and noise removal. To tackle these challenges, this study introduces a novel self-optimized single-cell clustering algorithm named scZVEA, which combines Zero- Inflated Negative Binomial (ZINB) model and variational graph attention autoencoder. The scZVEA framework comprises three key modules. Firstly, a Deep Count Autoencoder (DCA) is designed to model data distribution and eliminate noise. Then, a variational graph attention autoencoder to extract latent features from the data. Lastly, the self-optimized clustering module enables the two previously independent clustering and feature modules to mutually benefit each other by iteratively updating cluster centers to further enhance clustering performance. Experimental findings based on six authentic scRNAseq datasets illustrate that the proposed clustering algorithm significantly enhances clustering accuracy when compared to alternative methods. © 2024 SPIE.

Exploring fluid flow phenomena has always been a hot topic in fluid mechanics research. Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a non-contact technique applied in fluid mechanics laboratories for measuring the velocity field of fluids. The core of PIV lies in extracting displacement vector information from particle image pairs to ultimately generate a two-dimensional velocity field. Traditional methods typically estimate the two-dimensional velocity field using cross-correlation algorithms and optical flow techniques. In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies and their high compatibility with PIV in image processing, there is significant potential and research value in designing deep learning techniques for accurately estimating fluid velocity vector fields in particle image velocimetry. Compared to traditional methods, the PIV technique proposed in this paper, based on fully convolutional neural networks, not only maintains the accuracy of velocity field estimation but also significantly enhances resolution and computational efficiency. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits higher accuracy and stronger generalization capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern car security systems are complex, multiprocessor systems in which the main module interacts with peripheral devices via digital buses. One such device is a microprocessor-based shock sensor. The sensing element of the sensor is usually a MEMS accelerometer. To distinguish between weak and strong impacts on the car body, the sensors have two zones (two levels) of operation. Publications on shock sensors are mainly advertising in nature. This is due to production secrets and unwillingness to disclose signal processing algorithms. The paper presents experimental data on accelerations upon impact on a car body. An information signal processing algorithm is proposed that excludes false alarms and allows the implementation of a digital sensor with 16 adjustable sensitivity gradations and adaptation to periodic disturbing influences. © 2022 IEEE.

Internet of Things (IoT) based systems are vulnerable to various cyber-attacks and need advanced and smart techniques in order to achieve their security. In the FedCSIS 2023 big-data competition, participants are asked to construct scoring models to detect whether anomalous operating systems were under attack by using logs from IoT devices. These log files are variable-length sequences with high cardinality features. Through in-depth and detailed analysis, we find out concise and efficient methods to handle these huge volumes, variety, and veracity of data. On the basis of this, we create detection rules using the fundamental knowledge of mathematical statistics and train gradient boosting machine (GBM) based classifier for attack detection. Experimental and competition results prove the effectiveness of our proposed methods. Our final AUC score is 0.9999 on the private leaderboard. © 2023 Polish information processing Society.

Gathering knowledge about surroundings and generating situation awareness for autonomous systems is of utmost importance for systems developed for smart urban and uncontested environments. For example, a large area surveillance system is typically equipped with multi-modal sensors such as cameras and LIDARs and is required to execute deep learning algorithms for action, face, behavior, and object recognition. However, these systems are subjected to power and memory limitations due to their ubiquitous nature. As a result, optimizing how the sensed data is processed, fed to the deep learning algorithms, and the model inferences are communicated is critical. In this paper, we consider a testbed comprising two Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and two NVIDIA Jetson devices and posit a self-adaptive optimization framework that is capable of navigating the workload of multiple tasks (storage, processing, computation, transmission, inference) collaboratively on multiple heterogenous nodes for multiple tasks simultaneously. The self-adaptive optimization framework involves compressing and masking the input image frames, identifying similar frames, and profiling the devices for various tasks to obtain the boundary conditions for the optimization framework. Finally, we propose and optimize a novel parameter split-ratio, which indicates the proportion of the data required to be offloaded to another device while considering the networking bandwidth, busy factor, memory (CPU, GPU, RAM), and power constraints of the devices in the testbed. Our evaluations captured while executing multiple tasks (e.g., PoseNet, SegNet, ImageNet, DetectNet, DepthNet) simultaneously, reveal that executing 70% (split-ratio=70%) of the data on the auxiliary node minimizes the offloading latency by ≈ 33% (18.7 ms/image to 12.5 ms/image) and the total operation time by ≈ 47% (69.32s to 36.43s) compared to the baseline configuration (executing on the primary node). © 2023 IEEE.

Aiming at the problem that the density peak clustering algorithm (DPC) can not adaptively adjust the cutoff distance and the clustering center needs to be specified manually, an adaptive density peak clustering algorithm combined with sparrow search algorithm (ISSA-ADPC) is proposed. Firstly, the parameter of local density and relative distance is considered comprehensively, and the adaptive selection of cluster centers is realized according to the arrangement order and downward trend of parameter;Secondly, the homogenized distribution Chebyshev chaotic map is used to initialize the sparrow population, and then the adaptive t distribution strategy is introduced to improve the sparrow search algorithm, which avoids the algorithm falling into local optimization. At the same time, the improved sparrow search algorithm is used to realize the adaptive adjustment of cutoff distance;Finally, Compared with the experimental results of K-means, DBSCAN, DPC algorithm on the artificial and UCI datasets, the proposed algorithm has higher accuracy, adjusted rand index and adjusted mutual information values, and has better clustering performance. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Automatic recognition of vehicle license plates has become a core issue in the construction and management of smart cities and intelligent transportation systems both domestically and internationally. Core recognition algorithms face significant challenges due to varying lighting conditions, diverse background colors, personalized license plates, and the visual similarity of characters. This paper proposes an improved recognition model based on the LPRNet model-SE-Bi-LPRNet. This model employs YOLOv8 for precise localization of the license plate area and introduces an attention layer that integrates attention and contextual mechanisms. By incorporating a bidirectional long-short-Term gated algorithm and threshold selection, it effectively addresses complex background environments. The attention layer enhances the recognition accuracy of visually similar characters, while the bidirectional gating algorithm improves adaptability in complex scenes. Experimental results show that SE-Bi-LPRNet achieves a recognition accuracy of 96.79% in complex environments and 95.32% in personalized character recognition, significantly outperforming traditional LPRNet and other methods while maintaining competitive processing times. These improvements highlight the robustness and application potential of the model in intelligent transportation systems. Future research will explore integrating Transformer encoders into the model to enhance sequence modeling capabilities and overall performance. © 2025 IEEE.
