Volume holographic storage has received increasing attention owing to its potential high storage capacity and access rate. In the meanwhile, encrypted holographic memory using random phase encoding technique is attractive for an optical community due to growing demand for protection of information. In this paper, encryption-selectable holographic storage algorithms in LiNbO3 using angular multiplexing are proposed and demonstrated. Encryption-selectable holographic memory is an advance concept of security storage for content protection. It offers more flexibility to encrypt the data or not optionally during the recording processes. In our system design, the function of encryption and non-encryption storage is switched by a random phase pattern and a uniform phase pattern. Based on a 90-degree geometry, the input patterns including the encryption and non-encryption storage are stored via angular multiplexing with reference plane waves at different incident angles. Image is encrypted optionally by sliding the ground glass into one of the recording waves or removing it away in each exposure. The ground glass is a key for encryption. Besides, it is also an important key available for authorized user to decrypt the encrypted information.

This paper proposes a simple and effective correction method for the distortion of the picture which came from the distortion of the spherical lens and the state that real image plane and picture image plane are not horizontal. Even though there are many algorithms that corrects for the distortion of the lens, most of the algorithms are modeling lens, take a method to find a proper parameters. This demands time delay depends on the degree of modeling and the amount of calculation. In addition, most of the algorithms is processed with condition that lens is fixed in center of image and a picture image plane and a real image plane are horizontal. Thus, in a system which needs real time image processing such as movable robots, more effective and simpler algorithm is necessary because the amount of the calculation becomes problematic in system. Furthermore, when a robot in motion intent to get data on real image place, where picture plane and real image plane are not horizontal it could be a problem. Therefore, when the distortion of image which occurred from the distortion of the spherical lens, real image plane and picture plane are not horizontal, this paper suggests more effective and simpler algorithms, which corrects for the distortion of the lens with kinematics without modeling

Recently, studies of artificial arms and pointing devices using ElectroMyoGram (EMG) have been actively done. However, the individual variation of EMG is large, and its repeatability is low. Furthermore, EMG is usually measured from a part with comparatively big muscular fibers such as arms and shoulders. Therefore, if we can recognize wrist operations using EMG which was measured from the wrist, the range of application can extend furthermore. In this study, we aim toward the development of a device of wristwatch type that consolidates operational interface of various equipments. In particular, as an early stage, we propose a wrist motion recognition system. First, we execute the Fourier transform to the signal for feature extraction. Next, we experiment it by using neural networks after the dimensional reduction by using simple-PCA and simple-FLDA to reduce the number of inputs to NN. It was confirmed that the present approach was one of the techniques which were effective in the wrist recognition experiment

Foundation principles of multichannel real-time information processing system, which is solving a problem of automatic object tracking, are considered in this work. Image processing algorithms, which are used for three-channel system foundation and optimally approaching for system core - Microprocessor Neuro Matrix NM6403 are realized. information processing is accomplished with using of Hopfield neural network, one 384x288 frame processing time is about 100... 140 ms.

In quantum information and quantum computing, the carrier of information is some quantum system and information is encoded in its state. After processing the state in the quantum processor, the information has to be read out. Clearly, this task is equivalent to determining the final state of the system. We begin by briefly reviewing various possible state discrimination strategies that are optimal with respect to some reasonable criteria and report on recent advances in the unambiguous discrimination of mixed quantum states. This strategy has been successfully applied to devise a class of novel probabilistic quantum algorithms and has been demonstrated experimentally, using a linear optical implementation via generalized interferometers. In the second part we present a scheme for communication via completely unknown quantum states. In this context we discuss programmable quantum state discriminators that are universal, i.e. perform optimally on average, independently of the actual states used for the communication scheme. We conclude with a discussion of possible experimental implementations of the proposed device.

In this paper we revisit the asymmetric binary channel from the double point of view of detection theory and information theory. We first evaluate the capacity of the asymmetric binary channel as a function of the probabilities of false alarm and of detection, thus allowing a noise distribution independent analysis. This sets the a priori probabilities of the hypotheses and couples the two points of view. We then study the simple realization of the asymmetric binary channel using a threshold device. We particularly revisit noise-enhanced processing for subthreshold signals using the aforementioned parametrization of the capacity, and we report a somewhat paradoxical effect: using the channel at its capacity precludes in general an optimal detection.

As security is becoming one of the most important concerns in information society, the use of Biometrics is increasing everyday. Iris recognition is a biometric technique that presents low error rates with simpler matching algorithms than other biometrics techniques. Unfortunately feature extraction methods with iris biometrics are computational cost consuming. When developing new identification tokens, computational cost and processing time should be reduced, to provide cheaper devices, which could allow a viable solution in a commercial system. The authors, in this paper, develop a different hardware solution to be applied to a biometric token, which provides lower processing time and higher security than commercial systems.

Nano-coatings with adjustable optical features is one of the revolutionary technologies of today. In this work, we investigate how hyperspectral imaging can detect adjustable nano-surfaces used, for example, for active camouflage. The distinct attributes of the nano-coating spectra are discussed. Fast algorithms of utilizing hyperspectral information for recognizing these attributes are suggested. The research applies to both recognizing the camouflaged objects and to building unrecognizable camouflage technology. In the context of tracking active camouflage, the identification of characteristic spectral attributes is especially important. Active spectra can constantly change, therefore confusing traditional hyperspectral classification. In contrast, the identified general spectral attributes stay the same allowing for robust identification and reliable tracking of the camouflaged objects.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is procuring Airborne Real-time Cueing Hyperspectral Enhanced Reconnaissance (ARCHER) systems to increase their search-and-rescue mission capability. These systems are being installed on a fleet of Gippsland GA-8 aircraft, and will position CAP to gain real-world mission experience with the application of hyperspectral sensor and processing technology to search and rescue. The ARCHER system design, data processing, and operational concept leverage several years of investment in hyperspectral technology research and airborne system demonstration programs by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Each ARCHER system consists of a NovaSol-designed, pushbroom, visible/near-infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensor, a co-boresighted visible panchromatic high-resolution imaging (HRI) sensor, and a CMIGITS-iii GPS/INS unit in an integrated sensor assembly mounted inside the GA8 cabin. ARCHER incorporates an on-board data processing system developed by Space Computer Corporation (SCC) to perform numerous real-time processing functions including data acquisition and recording, raw data correction, target detection, cueing and chipping, precision image geo-registration, and display and dissemination of image products and target cue information. A ground processing station is provided for post-flight data playback and analysis. This paper describes the requirements and architecture of the ARCHER system, with emphasis on data processor design, components, software, interfaces, and displays. Key sensor performance characteristics and real-time data processing features are discussed. The use of the system for detecting and geo-locating ground targets in real-time is demonstrated using test data collected in Southern California in the fall of 2004.
