This paper reports the integration of an electrochromic inorganic oxide semiconductor (WO3) into an electrolyte gated transistor device. The resulting electrochromic transistor (EC-T) is a novel optoelectronic device, exhibiting simultaneous optical and electrical modulation. These devices show an On-Off ratio of 5 x 10(6) and a transconductance (g(m)) of 3.59 mS, for gate voltages (V-G) between -2 and 2 V, which, to the authors knowledge, are one of the best values ever reported for this type of electrochemical transistors. The simple and low-cost processing together with the electrical/optical performances, well supported into a comprehensive analysis of device physics, opens doors for a wide range of new applications in display technologies, biosensors, fuel cells or electrochemical logic circuits.

The rapid inspection of suspicious skin lesions for pathological cell types is the objective of optical point of care diagnostics technologies. A marker free fast diagnosis of skin malignancies would overcome the limitations of the current gold standard surgical biopsy. The time consuming and costly biopsy procedure requires the inspection of each sample by a trained pathologist, which limits the analysis of potentially malignant lesions. optical technologies like RAMAN or infrared spectroscopy, which provide both, localization and chemical information, can be used to differentiate malignant from healthy tissue by the analysis of multi cell structures and cell type specific spectra. We here report the application of midIR spectroscopy towards fast and reliable skin diagnostics. Within the European research project MINERVA we developed standardized in vitro skin systems with increasing complexity, from single skin cell types as fibroblasts, keratinocytes and melanoma cells, to mixtures of these and finally three dimensional human skin equivalents. The standards were characterized in the established midIR range and also with newly developed systems for fast imaging up to 12 mu m. The analysis of the spectra by novel data processing algorithms demonstrated the clear separation of all cell types, especially the tumor cells. The signals from single cell layers were sufficient for cell type differentiation. We have compared different midIR systems and found all of them suitable for specific cell type identification. Our data demonstrate the potential of midIR spectroscopy for fast image acquisition and an improved data processing as sensitive and specific optical biopsy technology.

In recent years, graphic processing units (GPUs) have emerged as an attractive alternative to CPUs for implementing algorithms in a wide range of applications. The focus of this work is to give an overview about the current state on using GPUs for computer vision. We describe briefly tools like CUDA, OpenCL and OpenACC used for GPU programming and their respective advantages / disadvantages. We give information about the current state of the art for implementing important computer vision algorithms like optical flow, KLT feature point tracking and SIFT descriptor extraction efficiently on the GPU. Finally, we describe open source frameworks which either provide GPU-accelerated computer vision algorithms or which are helpful for porting algorithms to the GPU.

Encryption algorithms are applied to a variety of fields and the security of encryption algorithms depends heavily on the computational infeasibility of exhaustive key-space search. RC4 algorithm has an extensive application for stream encryption, however, the disadvantages of traditional RC4 serial algorithm are large computational quantity and slow computation speed, which means a great challenge for throughput of computing system. Graphics processors recently have been widely used as accelerators for high throughput computing. In this paper, GPU is used to improve the efficiency and performance of attacking RC4 algorithm. First, we revised RC4 algorithm to make it easier to parallelize on a GPU. Then we take advantage of constant memory and shared memory in GPU to search the key space of RC4 algorithm efficiently. Besides, we solved the bank conflict problem in shared memory to further improve the performance. Our approach was evaluated in the whole key space of 40-bit, and the results show it can complete searching of the whole key space within 12.8 hours. © 2016 IEEE.

In order to perform digital signal processing it is necessary to reduce the effect of the noise on the signals. Some digital filters developed previously for signal interpolation are tested on different signals with noise. We study their effect and characteristics. The question about the right interpolation of a data set is not new, but it needs versatility and high speed in order to be correctly performed on-line, directly, in real time. Most of the main properties of the B-spline functions give us the opportunity to implement new and original algorithms for standard interpolation. Any ordinary function could be described by using B-spline classic functions with a dedicated set of coefficients. In case of the reconstruction for an interpolative signal, it is mandatory to compute all those specific coefficients. In this paper in order to perform cubic spline type interpolation, we show a classic algorithm and part of his advantages and known issues. Also, new opportunities for proper establishing some algorithms that could fix some of these issues are revealed. We will detail a new way to properly determine the initial coefficients by using the polynomial simple form on short measuring intervals for the spline-function itself and its derivatives. Based on these conclusions, some observations for future use and improvement of the algorithm, there are shown.

This article reports the synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of low-cost solution processed CdSe Quantum Dot (QD) based Schottky diode. The CdSe QDs are deposited on the ZnO QDs film over n-Si <100> substrate using solution processing technique. The ZnO QD deposited over the n-Si substrate acting as an Electron Transport Layer (ETL). Further, the Schottky junction is fabricated between CdSe QDs and Palladium (Pd) deposited using electron beam evaporation. The size of CdSe QDs is achieved to be ～4.84nm less than the Bohr's radius (～5.6nm) of CdSe. The responsivity and EQE of 0.075 A/W and 18.6% respectively are achieved at a wavelength of 500nm at 5V applied bias. The built-in potential, carrier density, and width of the depletion region at zero applied bias are calculated to be 0.52 V, ～1.70x10~(17) cm~(-3), and ～33.3 nm respectively. The barrier height is found to be 0.78eV with a reverse saturation current of 1.54x10~(-8)A. Further, the time response characteristics of the device show very fast response with the visible light for a rise time and fall time of ～20ms.

optical tracking of users and various technical systems are becoming more and more popular. It consists of analysing sequence of recorded images using video capturing devices and image processing algorithms. The returned data contains mainly point-clouds, coordinates of markers or coordinates of point of interest. These data can be used for retrieving information related to the geometry of the objects, but also to extract parameters for the analytical model of the system useful in a variety of computer aided engineering simulations. The parameter identification of joints deals with extraction of physical parameters (mainly geometric parameters) for the purpose of constructing accurate kinematic and dynamic models. The input data are the time-series of the marker's position. The least square method was used for fitting the data into different geometrical shapes (ellipse, circle, plane) and for obtaining the position and orientation of revolute joins.

Unauthorized and unregistered sea going fishing vessels are being used for criminal activities in the coastal areas. The issue of piracy against merchant ships using illegal fishing vessels poses a significant threat to world shipping. Unfortunately counter piracy efforts and maritime security of our own and other nation enforcement often affects the innocent fishermen who conduct the trans-border fishing. Hence a proper vessel monitoring system is required to protect the maritime security without tampering the routine fishing activity of the sea going fishermen. This paper discusses about the feasibility of a system for the detection of registered marine fishing vessels comparing the satellite images and GPRS signal information. A review on various algorithms for identifying marine boats from satellite images is also conducted in this paper.

Driving in nighttime environment is a difficult work due to low visibility, drowsy and impaired drivers. It is crucial to make a good algorithm to detect automatically abnormal moving vehicles surrounding the host vehicle to indicate early collision warning. This paper proposes an efficient approach to detect on-road abnormal moving vehicles in nighttime. Oncoming, change speed, change lane, roadside parking, and overtaking vehicles are detected. The proposal method is useful for vehicle behavior analysis system of IDAS (Intelligent Driver Assistance System). Firstly, all motion vectors of moving objects are estimated from frames. Most of safety moving vehicles are eliminated by using a new proposal threshold range and ROI setting. The remaining motion vectors are grouped by using K-means clustering algorithm to obtain segment abnormal vehicle candidates. The segmented candidates are classified using learning algorithm Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and various features to eliminate non-vehicle candidates. The experimental results show that the proposal method is high ability to detect the abnormal moving vehicles in front of the host vehicle in nighttime driving. It is useful to be the first processing step for behavior analysis systems in Intelligent Driver Assistance systems.
