An algorithm for extracting material shape and spatial information from non-uniform background, and for generating object skeletons for statistical two-dimensional experiments using random walk approach, is presented. This finds applications in textile analysis and microscopic analysis of various materials like hairs and allows for further precise determination of textile yarn dimensions as well as other geometrical characteristics like a fractal dimension.

With regard to the complexity of the new technology and increase its reliability requirements laboriousness of control operations in industrial quality control systems increases significantly. The importance of quality management control due to the fact that its promotes the correct use of production conditions, the relevant requirements are required. Digital image processing allows to reach a new technological level of production (new technological way). The most complicated automated interpretation of information is the basis for decision-making in the management of production processes. In the case of surface analysis of tools used for processing with the using of metalworking fluids (MWF) it is more complicated. The authors suggest new algorithm for optical inspection of the wear of the cylinder tool for burnishing, which used in surface plastic deformation without using of MWF. The main advantage of proposed algorithm is the possibility of automatic recognition of images of burnisher tool with the subsequent allocation of its boundaries, finding a working surface and automatically allocating the defects and wear area. Software that implements the algorithm was developed by the authors in Matlab programming environment, but can be implemented using other programming languages.

A unified model-based approach to ATR that uses 3D models to control detection, segmentation, and classification is described. Objects are modeled by rectangular boxes whose dimensions are Gaussian random variables. A fast predictor estimates the size and shape of expected objects in the image, which controls detection and segmentation algorithms. Segmentation fits oriented rectangles (length x width @ pose) to object-like regions detected using a multi-level thresholding/region tracking approach. Detections are classified by comparing measured to predicted region length and width in the pose direction. The method is fast and requires only a coarse characterization of objects/object classes.

This report examines the integrated navigation system (CNS) of transport means, which includes: small inertial navigation system (INS), receiver satellite navigation system (SNS) GPS or GLONASS and signal processor. Optimal information processing in the CNS is based on a synthesis of the structure of the Kalman filter (KF). From the point of view of practical realization the urgent task of stability improvement of the KF to the errors a priori information and elimination the divergence of the filter are discussed. The minimax method for constructing filter of Kalman type in the CNS of the vehicle is discussed if there are uncertainties in the a priori information about the errors parameters of the navigation systems. The results of statistical modeling of data processing algorithms in CNS of the vehicle are presented.

A considerable progress in recognition techniques for many non-Arabic characters has been achieved. In contrary, few efforts have been put on the research of Arabic characters. In any optical Character Recognition (OCR) system the segmentation step is usually the essential stage in which an extensive portion of processing is devoted and a considerable share of recognition errors is attributed. In this research, a novel segmentation approach for machine Arabic printed text with diacritics is proposed. The proposed method reduces computation, errors, gives a clear description for the sub-word and has advantages over using the skeleton approach in which the data and information of the character can be lost. Both of initial evaluation and testing of the proposed method have been developed using MATLAB and shows 98.7% promising results.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of indoor positioning using visible light systems. The directional detector array we use is comprised of a number of receiving elements, each consisting of an aperture and a photo diode, which are arranged to offer good angular diversity, and can be implemented within a compact receiver structure [1]. The receiving elements receive the light from a number of white LEDs, which are typically attached to the ceiling, and which act as anchors. In order to get an indication of the received signal strengths of the different LEDs, we average the received signals over time. The relative signal strengths in the different receiving elements do not only provide information on the distance between the LEDs and the detector array, but also about the angle-of-arrival of the light. By combining the information of the receiving elements, the position of the detector can be estimated. In order to assess the accuracy of positioning algorithms based on this approach, we derive the Cramer-Rao lower bound on the position accuracy. Assuming the white LEDs transmit an optical power of 1 W, and the time averaging is done over 1 millisecond, an accuracy of the order of a centimetre can be achieved.

Better ground sample distance (GSD) images are the recent trend for remote sensing society. To acquire such images, long focal length optical design is required. As a result, TMA (Three-mirror Anastigmat) design has been widely adopted to acquire such long-focal optical systems recently since it has advantages of shorter system dimension and better optical quality. To implement such a kind of optical system, an internal pathfinder project has been raised. Mirrors are made of aluminum alloy. In this paper, lightweighting and processing of secondary and tertiary mirrors are presented. The lightweight ratio are optimized to have good enough form shape and higher lightweight ratio. processing of the two mirrors is performed by diamond turning. The form shape and roughness are discussed.

Electro-optical (EO) surveillance systems are capable of performing autonomous search, detection, tracking and designation of potential targets. The detection and tracking of target at long range is a challenge due to atmospheric degradation and background clutter. The detection process heavily depends on its image quality. Various types of image enhancement techniques are being exploited to improve the detection capability. The performance of these techniques varies with operational scenario as the surveillance is a very subjective process by nature. Reconfigurable architecture based upon FPGA has been chosen to implement real-time image enhancement, for improved range performance (detection/recognition/identification) of EO systems considering the scenarios such as naval and land platforms. The architectural design based on FPGA and real time implementation results for these image processing algorithms along with improvement in the quality of image has been presented.

In optical information-measuring systems structured lighting is an important part that largely influences and even determines both used algorithms and hardware. In many cases it is the addition of a structured lighting turns a vision system in measurement system and improves intellectual features of information system. I suggest using a structured lighting for detecting the presence of a train on a controlled track and fixing car-to-car gaps in vision systems on the railway. This approach eliminates the need of special sensors or additional equipment for the specified control and, in conjunction with other decisions of complex technology articulating design of all components of vision systems, allows to increase the maximum speed of trains passing through the checkpoints, to improve significantly the accuracy of the process of recognition of identification numbers of cars and containers, makes it possible to bring the camera closer to the track, to control all roads of the railway station simultaneously under the minimal distance between them.
