Traffic flow detection plays an important role in Intelligent Transportation systems(ITS). video based traffic flow detection system is the most widely used strategy in ITS. Under this circumstance, we design and implement a video based traffic flow detection system which is called MyTD in this paper. MyTD takes advantages of both shadow removal and optical flow algorithms. Firstly, we introduce the current development of ITS and focus on the video based traffic detection technology, which is the key to ITS. Secondly, a shadow removal algorithm combining information in both RGB and HSV color spaces is proposed. Thirdly, based on the Iterative Pyramidal LK optical Flow Algorithm, a vehicle tracking function is realized by OpenCV, as well as a Connected Components Labeling function and the vehicle counting function. Finally, MyTD is implemented and tested based on the algorithm presented above. Experimental results show the outstanding performance of our method comparing with traditional optical flow algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper addresses the designing a pragmatic appliance of multi-antenna, 2.437GHz ISM band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) testbed systems developed for evaluating wireless MIMO algorithms. Since using Sundance demo package for the development of a flexible field-programmable gate array (FPGA) processing system. The objective of this contribution is to provide an understanding of basic MIMO-LTE techniques and the practical concept, the setup, and the handling of our MIMO testbed based on SMT hardware and 3L diamond software platform in facts. The testbed manipulated as well as a MATLAB interface allowing real channel measurements become used in evolution and algorithm development. We have proposed a 22 antenna MIMO transceiver testbed system with Alamouti STBC and 64-QAM research model which efficiently implemented the MIMO algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

The report addresses the basic problems of the Arabic language formalization based on analysis of linguistic errors in software products. Reviewing the principles of modern information systems operation the authors come to the conclusion that the existing methods of the Arabic formalization allow to note a shift towards the technological aspects of the linguistic processing of facts, however, the quality of applied linguistic components still remains poor. Possibilities for the application of traditional recognition algorithms for Arabic are still uncertain in spite of a significant number of theoretical and practical results in the field of computational linguistics. There are several problems which are due to be solved in relation to the processing of the Arabic text. These issues may be divided into those related to optical Recognition of the Written Text (OCR), Word processing (WP) and building of the content of the dictionaries, Machine Translation (MT).

The current state of the art in space systems would not be possible without the advances in our understanding of matter and light at the atomic level provided by quantum theory. This triumph of 20th century physics provides the foundation for most of the components employed in satellites from integrated circuits, solar cells, atomic clocks, and advanced materials. Over the past 25 years a new understanding of the relationship between quantum theory, information theory and security, and computing has raised the possibility of exploiting "quantum information" for computing and secure encryption key generation. The field of quantum information science exploits quantum states for information processing and security applications. The power of quantum information derives from the quantum nature of matter that allow algorithms with exponential speed-up when compared to the best-known classical algorithms. Quantum Key Distribution involves using quantum states, typically encoded into the phase or polarization of photons, to securely share the bits to be used to construct an encryption key. The theoretical security of quantum key distribution rests on the physical laws of quantum theory, unlike classical cryptography that relies on assumptions about the computational complexity of certain mathematical problems. In this paper we survey the state of quantum information science and technology, summarizing the basic features of quantum information processing and key distribution. We describe the potential for quantum computing and key distribution to support future NSS applications and missions, for both the ground and space segments. We conclude with a discussion of the current challenges with advancing quantum information technology to meet these future needs. © 2011 by The Aerospace Corporation. Solving diffractive optics problems using graphics processing units

Techniques for applying graphics processing units (GPU) to the general-purpose nongraphics computations proposed in recent years by the companies ATI (AMD FireStream, 2006) and NviDIA (CUDA: Compute Unified Device Architecture, 2007) have given an impetus to developing algorithms and software packages for solving problems of diffractive optics with the aid of the GPU. The computations based on the wide-spread Ray Tracing method were among the first to be implemented using the GPU. The method attracted the attention of the CUDA technology architects, who proposed its GPU-based implementation at the conference NviSION08 (2008). The potential of this direction is associated both with the research into the general issues of mapping of the Ray Tracing method onto the GPU architecture (involving the use of various grid domains and trees) and with developing dedicated software packages (RTE and Linzik projects). In this work, a special attention is given to the overview of techniques for the GPU-aided implementation of the FDTD (finite-difference time-domain) method, which offers an instrument for solving problems of micro- and nanooptics using the rigorous electromagnetic theory. The review of the related papers ranges from the initial research (based on the use of textures) to the complete software solutions (like FDTD Software and FastFDTD). © 2011 Allerton Press, Inc.

The requirements for advanced EO/IR sensor technologies are discussed in the context of evolving military operations, with significant emphasis on the development of new sensing technologies to meet the challenges posed by asymmetric threats. The Electro-Magnetic Remote Sensing (EMRS DTC) was established in 2003 to provide a centre of excellence in sensor research and development, supporting new capabilities in key military areas such as precision attack, battlespace manoeuvre and information superiority. In the area of advanced electro-optic technology, the DTC has supported work on discriminative imaging, advanced detectors, laser components/technologies, and novel optical techniques. This paper provides a summary of some of the EO/IR technologies explored by the DTC.

We investigated the power consumption of the Bandwidth-Variable optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (BV-OOFDM) transport networks. OFDM has been recently proposed as a modulation technique for optical networks due to its good spectral efficiency enabling elastic bandwidth transmissions compared with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). So far, the vast majority of research papers on Routing and Spectrum Allocation (RSA) problem in optical OFDM focus on increasing spectrum efficiency, however power consumption rather than spectral efficiency may eventually become a barrier to the continued growth of the Internet. In this paper, we introduce RSA problem from the viewpoint of network power consumption, which we formulate as Low Power Consumption RSA (LPC-RSA) problem. Different algorithms to solve the LPC-RSA problem are present. We start by presenting an optimal integer linear programming (ILP) RSA algorithm using decomposition method which breaks RSA into its two substituent subproblems, namely, (i) routing and (ii) spectrum allocation and solves them sequentially. For large networks, a heuristic algorithm is also proposed. Our results indicate that RSA with optimal objective of power consumption can have better power consumption and the same spectral efficiency solution compared with RSA with optimal objective of spectral efficiency, and the proposed heuristic algorithm yields close to the optimal solution in low running time. © 2011 IEEE.

Deblurring camera-based document image is an important task in digital document processing, since it can improve both the accuracy of optical character recognition systems and the visual quality of document images. Traditional deblurring algorithms have been proposed to work for natural-scene images. However the natural-scene images are not consistent with document images. In this paper, the distinct characteristics of document images are investigated. We propose a content-aware prior for document image deblurring. It is based on document image foreground segmentation. Besides, an upper-bound constraint combined with total variation based method is proposed to suppress the rings in the deblurred image. Comparing with the traditional general purpose deblurring methods, the proposed deblurring algorithm can produce more pleasing results on document images. Encouraging experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method. © 2011 IEEE.

Steel billet recognition is an urgent requirement in the steel industry of heavy rail line. Due to high temperature and complex scene in the rolling line, the recognition at the end of billet is quite different from optical character recognition with simple background and vehicle license plate recognition. In order to solve the problem, this paper presents some new schemes in character location, segmentation and recognition in the complex scene. These proposed algorithms include the location algorithm of multilevel filter based on separability criterion, the segmentation algorithm based on intelligent multi-agent and the recognition algorithm of character features matching combining the template matching. The results show that the proposed algorithms are effective for steel billet character recognition in the complex scene. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
