The accurate identification of large and medium slag in power plant slag transport system has an important impact on the safety, efficiency, environmental protection and economic benefits of power plant. The timely processing of large slag can effectively improve the operation efficiency and maintenance cost of power plant, and with the rapid development of image recognition technology, the recognition of large slag in power plant slag transport system is gradually intelligent. In this paper, based on CenterNet image recognition algorithm, through the adaptive spatial feature fusion module is added in the backbone network, and combined with the feature of the pyramid networks structure. The low-level feature information is fused with the high-level feature information. The loss function is replaced by the distributed focus loss, and the effectiveness of the system is verified by experiments. The results show that the system has good convergence, can accurately identify the size and position of large slag block, can respond to the slag removal command quickly, improve the operation efficiency of the power plant slag delivery system, reduce the manual maintenance cost, and improve the operation safety of the power plant. © 2024 SPIE.

The information Bottleneck (IB) method provides a theoretical framework for balancing complexity and accuracy in machine learning models by compressing input data while retaining relevant information. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the applications of the IB method in deep learning, focusing on its ability to enhance learning efficiency, generalization, and adversarial robustness. Variations like the Variational information Bottleneck (viB) are also explored for their success in improving neural network performance. Notably, the viB method performed superior on the MNIST dataset, outperforming conventional regularization techniques such as dropout and confidence penalty. In addition to achieving better generalization, the viB model demonstrates greater resilience to adversarial attacks, requiring more substantial input modifications to mislead the model. However, significant challenges remain, including optimization complexities and scalability issues in large data sets. This paper also identifies future research directions that aim to address these limitations, such as developing more scalable IB algorithms and enhancing adversarial defense mechanisms, to fully realize the potential of IB-based learning models. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid development of aviation electromechanical technology, new aircraft are equipped with a large number of sensors and electronic control devices. In order to meet the data transmission requirements of avionics systems, Ethernet Data Distribution (DDS) protocol has gradually become the standard solution for published/subscribed data in distributed real-time systems. Facing the new requirements of bus data processing using DDS protocol, starting from the characteristics and format of Ethernet DDS data recording, this paper gives the overall architecture and core processing method of the processing software. This paper analyzes the key problems of Ethernet DDS data processing, and proposes solutions for DDS bus interface control document (ICD) plane structure, multi-level parallel data processing algorithm, data detection and filtering. The method is validated and can correctly process Ethernet DDS data. © 2023 SPIE.

Change detection is considered as a challenging issue in the field of satellite image processing due to the presence of significant intensity differences between the input images. Although a variety of algorithms have been proposed in recent time to detect the changes in remote sensing optical images, most of them suffer from handling large intensity variations of the images. In this paper, an unsupervised change detection method is proposed which uses image local self-similarity information to take care of large intensity variations of the input images. Initially, feature vectors are constructed for each of the pixels of the input images using local self-similarity information of images. Then, binary feature vectors are created from these feature vectors using a thresholding criterion. Finally, these binary feature vectors of the corresponding locations of the images are utilized to identify the changed and unchanged pixels. Experiments on different sets of optical satellite images show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Addressing the limitations of currently rare small target detection algorithms based on Human visual systems (HVS) that struggle with achieving satisfactory performance in complex backgrounds and lack high real-time capabilities, this paper introduces an innovative small target detection algorithm. This approach is founded on the integration of the Full-Direction Dilation Difference of Gaussians (FDD-DOG) and background estimation based on local contrast (LCBE). First, the high-frequency signal in the target area is enhanced by using the FDD-DOG operation, based on the difference between the real target and the background. Then, the background noise is further suppressed by assigning appropriate weights to the enhanced image by using local contrast-based background estimation. After that, the target to be detected is extracted by the adaptive threshold segmentation method. Experiments comparing the algorithm proposed in this paper with other HVS-based detection algorithms show that the method in this paper exhibits better detection performance in different infrared image sequences, where the background suppression factor is improved by an average of about 25 times and the signal-to-clutter ratio gain is improved by an average of about 15 times. © 2024 SPIE.

Targeting systems are subject to multiple sources of error when operating in complex environments. To reduce the effect of these errors, modern targeting systems generally include both imaging and RF sensors. Data processing then provides target detection and classification information, and the detection streams are combined using a data fusion scheme to produce an optimal target location estimate with an associated latency. In this paper, the performance of a multi- sensor system in a maritime application is investigated using a mathematical simulator that has been developed to provide the system performance error analysis for different engagement scenarios and test conditions. This simulator is described together with the sources of targeting error such as image motion blur and radar glint. Additionally, the impact of flare and chaff countermeasures on the targeting performance is reviewed in terms of different types of target recognition and tracking algorithms.

The paper describes a mechanism for modeling an optical flow as a random vector field – closed areas on the image plane with certain brightness and dynamics of changes in the vector field. The optical flow is formed by a homogeneous, three-dimensional point renewal process. The characteristics of the vector field on the image plane of the resulting optical flow are interconnected by the Palm’s formulas. The type of the constituent elements of the vector field (the alphabet, which determines the morphology of the field on the image plane) is chosen randomly. The proposed approach will produce various types of interconnected digital sequences of images with horizontal, vertical and diagonal elements;create the prerequisites for efficient and flexible motion analysis on digital video sequences;make it possible to use the probabilistic factor in researching image processing algorithms and comparing the algorithms based on a detailed factor analysis. © 2024, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In 2022, lots of tweets consisting of emoji squares and a few words describing moods emerge on Twitter. In fact, it is the result of a word guessing game called Wordle. In order to figure out the relationship among words in Wordle, this paper tries to study the feedback data of its players and extract useful information to further improve the design of Wordle as well as other games of its kind. Specifically, from the perspective of word structure, strict and fuzzy matching algorithms were designed to simulate the data distribution of target word, while some common structure features of words were extracted and weighted by word frequency. On one hand, the data distribution of the target word is simulated with reference to the words with the most similar structures. On the other hand, the difficulty of a word in the Wordle game was quantified by analyzing the number of player’s tries, and then the difficulty coefficient of each word was calculated. Combined with the above numerical algorithms, the difficulty of the target word was evaluated objectively by the difficulty of its similar word sequences. Experiments showed that the proposed framework achieved good performance on the Wordle dataset. Our work was awarded Honorable Mention in 2023 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). © 2024 SPIE.

Researchers and algorithm developers have always strived to make tracking more accurate than before, by developing deferents algorithms that prove their efficiency and effectiveness in international competitions (VOT, MOT challenge,...), but taking care of one side without others may be the reason why limiting the fields of application of that software, which makes them confined only to these competitions or confined to applications domains without others and this is not the end object in itself. For example, the use of complex tracking algorithms in the drone makes the processing unit very slow and unsuitable for real-time tracking, instead that the use of highly efficient processing systems for acceleration consumes a lot of energy, which reduces the time the drone stays in flight. In this paper, we suggest our approach;HashSet Matching Algorithm (HSMA) provided by optical Flow appearance features and HOG for developing an object-tracking algorithm to address the issue of a complex MOT algorithm for real-time tracking. The MOT challenge data-set experiment results show that the suggested technique can handle object occlusion difficulties successfully while reducing processing time. This algorithm is implemented in the vision processing Unit (VPU) to enhance the time flying of UAVs and to ensure low energy consumption. Our approach performs very well in real application scenarios, demonstrating that it is more practical. © 2023 IEEE.

With the continuous advancement of smart city construction, autonomous driving technology is playing an increasingly important role in urban traffic systems. This study aims to explore the development and optimization of traffic sign recognition algorithms for autonomous vehicles in smart city traffic environments. By comprehensively analyzing current traffic sign recognition technologies, this paper proposes a traffic sign recognition system based on the YOLOv5 algorithm and utilizes the open-source COCO dataset for model training and testing. The images were preprocessed and annotated, employing CSPDarknet53 as the backbone network, which effectively extracts image features through multiple convolutional layers and residual blocks. A deep learning model was trained, capable of recognizing and classifying various traffic signs such as stop, speed limit, and turn signs. The research results indicate that the model demonstrates high average precision (AP) on the COCO dataset, effectively identifying traffic signs of different sizes and angles, even in complex backgrounds, with high robustness. Compared to traditional methods, the recognition accuracy has improved by 15%, and it has a significant advantage in real-time processing. © 2024 SPIE.
