Practical online learning tasks are often naturally defined on unconstrained domains, where optimal algorithms for general convex losses are characterized by the notion of comparator adaptivity. In this paper, we design such algorithms in the presence of switching cost - the latter penalizes the typical optimism in adaptive algorithms, leading to a delicate design trade-off. Based on a novel dual space scaling strategy discovered by a continuous-time analysis, we propose a simple algorithm that improves the existing comparator adaptive regret bound [ZCP22a] to the optimal rate. The obtained benefits are further extended to the expert setting, and the practicality of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through a sequential investment task.

The traditional movie recommendation system has many problems in using common algorithm, such as relying on users' historical preference data, "cold start" problems for new movies and new us-ers, and poor recommendations for users with special tastes. Given the above situation, the system framework is built based on the MoviesLens dataset of GroupLens, using Spark, Flume, Kafka, and other big data technologies, and the SVD++ algorithm and Bias-SVD algorithm are used to improve the SVD algorithm and Funk-SVD algorithm in the traditional latent factor model, so as to improve the latent factor model. The recommendation effects and the corresponding RMSE and MAE values of the improved hidden semantic model on the dataset are compared, and the appropriate algorithms are se-lected to optimize the model of collaborative filtering algorithm based on nearest neighbors. By quantifying indicators such as movie genre, release time, region, recent hotness ranking, long-term hotness ranking, number of resources, and user ratings, data analysis is performed using visual charting techniques to find the movie resources that best match the users, and finally, the generated TopN list and rating of recommendation results are presented to users in offline and real-time, completing the construction of the movie recommendation system. The experimental results show that the selection of suitable algorithms applied to the movie recommendation system has greatly improved the recommendation effect compared with the traditional method, the accuracy rate has also been greatly improved, and the system is more in line with the user's personalized requirements. © 2024 SPIE.

A Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) biosensor with good biocompatibility promises label-free, anti-electromagnetic interference, and non-destructive detection of stress monitoring, it holds the potential to rapidly identify the stress changes in microfluidics systems. Based on signal processing, the correlation between wavelength shift in FBG and flowrate is discussed, an alternative to manual processing of wavelength offset calculation is analyzed, and the automatic selection of FBG wavelength change under high noise conditions is realized. In addition, we propose some technologies of intelligent processing algorithms such as machine learning (BP—back propagation neural network) and moving average. Finally, the feasibility and stability of the signal processing method are verified by experimental validation and multiple data sets testing. This study provides a promising intelligent information processing strategy for rapid and accurate stress sensing of microfluidics systems. © 2023 SPIE.

The expectations and demands for real-time performance for processing of visual information usually overloaded contemporary computer systems at all times. Increasing hardware performance enabled the use of more complex analysis and vice versa. For a long time, this led to a mutual fertilization of electronics and computer programs or architectures and algorithms with coherent data structures. Appropriate tool sets marked corner stones and boosted some significant developments. However, up to now one got always the impression that the requirements were always heading the possible performance and the open question becoming more serious is: where will it end? This paper provides a short rush through four decades of real-time image processing with a conclusion for an outlook into future opportunities and current developments providing guidelines to host corresponding research results by this conference in the coming years. New concepts, programming paradigms and production technologies are paving the way for future image processing solutions providing real-time capabilities. © 2023 SPIE.

The research of solar cells has gone through three generations, silicon solar cells, thin film solar cells and perovskite solar cells. There are a variety of characterization methods used to analyze the factors that affect the performance of solar cells. Thus far, there are some deficiencies in the research of algorithms of the characterization methods themselves. Three types of data: current density-voltage (J-V) curves, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum and absorption spectrum are the most essential characterization methods. Here, the processing algorithms of these three kinds of characterization data are studied, intend to help researchers to solve the practical problems more efficiently, and improve the accuracy of experimental results. In this paper, the process of processing algorithm are summarized in the way of flow chart, and combined with the example to show in turn. © 2023 SPIE.

With the increasing demand for autonomous vehicles, the reliable detection and recognition of objects have become paramount. Millimeter-wave radar systems operating at frequencies such as 94GHz offer several advantages, including high resolution, precise range measurement, and resilience to adverse weather conditions. However, accurately characterizing the RCS of objects at this frequency range is essential to optimize the performance of these radar systems. In this work, we present Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements of various objects commonly encountered on the road such as the metal balls, the bricks. The acquired findings illuminate the radar signal fluctuations demonstrated by different entities at a frequency of 94GHz. This knowledge serves as a foundation for developing robust algorithms and signal processing techniques that enhance the object detection, classification, and tracking capabilities of radar-based autonomous driving systems. Moreover, our research provides a valuable dataset of RCS measurements for different objects at 94GHz, which can serve as a benchmark for future studies in the field of radar system design and testing. The availability of such a dataset facilitates the development and validation of radar system models, the evaluation of sensor fusion approaches, and the comparison of performance across different radar hardware and signal processing algorithms. The results contribute to the advancement of radar-based autonomous driving systems by providing crucial insights into the scattering characteristics of objects at millimeter-wave frequencies. The findings have practical implications for optimizing the design, testing, and performance of radar systems, ultimately enhancing the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles in real-world scenarios. © 2023 SPIE.

Battlespace management requires rapid processing of large amounts of data to facilitate informed decision-making. Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated near or above human performance on a wide range of cognitive tasks. Current LLMs are unreliable, have poor explainability, and are prone to bias and hallucinations. As such they are unsuitable for many defense applications, but their abilities can be studied with future, improved LLMs in mind. Specifically, LLM capabilities to synthesize defense-relevant data and make decisions in a combat environment have been largely unexplored. The battlefield information and tactics engine (BITE) uses LLMs as observers and decision-makers in a military environment. A multiplayer video game focusing on modern mechanized combat, Squad by Offworld Industries Ltd., is used as an operating environment due to its moderate realism levels and focus on audio communication between players. BITE is tasked with ingesting tactical data, providing summaries of the current situation, and giving order to a squad of human players. The present work aims to qualitatively assess the suitability of BITE, and LLMs in general, for use in battlespace management systems. Shortcomings are identified in the areas of spatial awareness, decision-making time, and reliability. However, BITE exhibits instances of competent leadership and demonstrates a generalized understanding of modern mechanized combat. While current LLMs are currently deeply unsuitable for combat environments, BITE and similar approaches show promise in wargaming and training applications.

In the intelligent inspection of furniture boards, wood debris generated during manufacturing can interfere with the imaging process. This leads to burr disturbances at the corners of the boards. Existing corner detection methods exhibit lower detection accuracy under the interference of these disturbances. To overcome this issue, this paper presents a corner detection algorithm tailored for furniture boards that incorporates the Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) algorithm and line fitting techniques based on the Huber loss function. To enhance detection efficiency, our algorithm initially identifies horizontal and vertical edges near a corner. This preliminary step facilitates subsequent corner detection. This study introduces a test dataset for evaluating the accuracy and efficiency of algorithms. A battery of comparative experiments, including benchmarks with conventional methods, were conducted. The results demonstrate that our algorithm significantly enhances the efficiency and robustness of corner detection under a variety of complex burr interference conditions. © 2024 SPIE.

Spatial resolution is a critical measure of the imaging performance of ultrasound imaging systems and is determined by various system factors. So far, no comprehensive studies have been reported to elucidate the impact of system factors on spatial resolution, which is generally defined as the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the point spread function (PSF). This work aims to model the PSF of ultrasound imaging systems based on a linear transducer array and a coherent plane-wave compounding (CPWC) method and study how pulse-echo sequences, transducer parameters, and beamforming algorithms impact PSF. The Verasonics simulator and UltraSound ToolBox are used in numerical simulations for ultrasound signal generation and image reconstruction, respectively. Experiments are conducted to verify simulation results. Numerical and experimental results show that the value of axial resolution is negatively correlated with the center frequency of the ultrasonic transducer;the value of lateral resolution is positively correlated with the number of transmitted plane waves of the CPWC method and the element width of the ultrasonic transducer and is negatively correlated with the maximum steering angle of the CPWC method and the aperture size and center frequency of the ultrasonic transducer. Different beamforming algorithms show varying effects on spatial resolution and image quality. This work is expected to help predict and interpret the quality of ultrasound images produced by practical ultrasound imaging systems and is beneficial for the design and development of ultrasonic transducers, pulse-echo sequences, and beamforming algorithms for enhanced spatial resolution. © 2024 SPIE.

In the field of medical imaging, C-arm systems play a pivotal role in surgeries, especially interventional surgeries. However, the current C-arm imaging system cannot adapt to the application scenarios due to algorithm limitations. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, it is necessary to improve the quality of C-arm imaging and to fulfill the various requirements of different scenarios by improving the image processing techniques associated with C-arm imaging. This article explores how to improve C-arm image processing using convolutional neural network (CNN)-related algorithms. CNNs are known for their ability to extract complex features from images, which can be used for contrast enhancement, noise reduction, artifact removal, and resolution enhancement. Through a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art applications and technologies, this study proposes an innovative method of applying CNN for image processing in C-arm systems, improving image quality and thus providing potential advancements in clinical diagnosis and surgery. In terms of real-time image enhancement, integrating CNN into the C-arm imaging pipeline has demonstrated promising results, providing a reference for medical imaging learning and research. This article discusses the methods, experimental results, and implications of incorporating CNN into C-arm imaging, emphasizing that this technology can greatly improve image quality and indicating the potential of artificial intelligence technology in C-arm imaging applications. © 2024 SPIE.
