optical label switching (OLS) has been proposed as a promising technology for providing fast switching capabilities, resource provisioning and quality of service (QoS) support. In this paper, we address the issue of providing congestion avoidance in OLS networks inn order to guarantee efficient resource utilization and QoS requirements, and allow the network to operate safely. We develop a novel congestion avoidance protocol through the use of a core node architecture and dynamic contention resolution. The proposed scheme handles signaling tasks, admission control, resource provision and QoS needs. Finally, simulation analysis is used to validate the proposed technique.

optical Burst Switching (OBS) technology offers a promising solution for the next generation optical Internet. Since, TCP protocol is the most dominant transport protocol for the Internet, it is essential to address the implementation of TCP over the OBS technology. The main consideration in TCP performances over OBS is the interaction between the TCP congestion control mechanism and OBS-specific schemes. Different studies have considered TCP issues in OBS networks. It is noteworthy to note that all developed studies have not considered contention resolution at OBS layer, which may have a significant impact on TCP performances. In this paper, we address the implementation of TCP protocol over a novel OBS network architecture supported by a specific contention resolution scheme based on wavelength conversion, burst segmentation and optical buffering. For sake of better performances, we propose a segment retransmission scheme in which segments lost in case of contention resolution failure are retransmitted at the OBS layer. Also, we develop an analytic model for the mathematical analysis of TCP performances over OBS networks implementing these schemes. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted to validate the proposed approach and evaluate its performances.

One of the most important issues in secrecy of group communication is confidentiality. In order to satisfying confidentiality, symmetric cryptography must be exploited. all symmetric algorithms require a common key between the members. High frequency in the number of joining members can cause massive flow of data between authorized group members. Although hierarchical group communication is a prominent model, it has not been investigated in security literature as well as other models. There has been an extensive research on satisfying confidentiality in group communications on different architecture other than the hierarchical architecture and the proposed hierarchical models do not use the concept of agents. In this paper, we investigate a new approach to secure key management in hierarchical group communication by means of bandwidth reduction. This can be accomplished by using agents. The simulation results show that using agents reduce network bandwidth and improve and achieve more performance comparing with other models.

In this paper we describe the technical issues of access and metro networks based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technologies, some studies are done to precise the effect of different parameters over the quality of transmission by measuring the bit error ratio (BER). A WDM star access network with colorless optical network units (ONUs) is a known model of access network. For realizing the colorless ONU, two approaches are introduced; optical carrier supply and spectrum slicing. In addition, a WDM metro ring network with scalable optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs), namely the tapped-type OADM, is proposed to effectively accommodate the large amount of traffic issued from access networks. Prototype is studied and analyzed to verify the efficiency of WDM technologies in such access networks.

This paper presents multi-layer IP optical traffic engineering experimental results using our developed IP optical Traffic Engineering (TE) Server, which performs traffic control in corporation with IP routes and optical cross-connects (OXCs) in Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) networks. Multi-layer TE can optimize network resource utilization considering all layers, rather than performing optimization independently for each layer. IP routers and OXCs are managed and operated by the IP optical TE server considering the network resources of both layers. The IP optical TE server computes path routers across different layers and controls them upon request from users and operators. The IP optical TE server dynamically reconfigures an IP network topology that consists of several optical paths in response to traffic demand fluctuations and network failures. Nowadays, the importance of Telecommunications and Information Technology is growing all over the world and end customers demand for new and wider communication services. Service providers, driven by the market, are very sensitive and highly innovative. As a direct consequence, the Regulatory control of this sector is becoming one of the most important issues for national governments. Coping with complex demands in time-effective manner, supervising a fast growing market and considering performance analysis are all essential steps in opening the national telecommunications market. Therefore, national governments are establishing a formal national Type Approval system as the basis and frame for accomplishing these goals. In this paper, we propose an effective architecture for a modular signaling type approval platform (STAP) which could be used by service providers, regulatory bodies and approval bodies to evaluate the quality of service degree in regard with the signaling section of switching systems. Finally we describe a practical sample designed and implemented at testing laboratories of Iran Telecom Research Center (ITRC) based on the proposed architecture. Describing definition, strategy or process of type approval (TA) is not the goal of this paper.

Reliable and efficient operation of power networks is of paramount importance. In this paper we explore communication architectures that leverage phasor measurement units (PMUs) and fusion centers to enable robust real-time monitoring of power networks over wide areas. We examine scalability issues in data aggregation for a power network in which PMUs are attached to every bus. We argue that in power networks, the data recorded by the PMUs are spatially correlated and therefore the data admit a sparse representation in a given basis. Furthermore, the number of bits required to reconstruct the PMU data to within a given accuracy at a remote location grows sublinearly with the density of the power network. Our results are: i) the PMUs should not transmit their data to the fusion center independently or asynchronously - an intermediate data aggregation step is beneficial, and ii) if we perform data aggregation then we can add more PMUs to the network to achieve finer network monitoring without causing network congestion

New services, new applications, new profiles of clients, new networking technologies and new forms of communications, such as peer-to-peer, and media/content-to-person, are all driving the need for a converged all-IP network that can provide an "agnostic" layer between the service and transport layers. Designing and realizing such an IP-based network architecture require a through understanding not only of IP networking technology, but also the particular demands of delivering high-performance, real-time services in a way that maintains the telecom grade performance; which means high-reliability and high-quality of traditional telecommunications services. The talk reviews the main technical challenges that allow the network to evolve towards a telecom-quality IP-based network, and discusses the main research issues relating to that. Specifically, on one hand IP technology is the enabler of adaptive and flexible connectivity. Its connectionless structure, with its logical connectivity, provides new levels of scalability and manageability that can't be matched by the "hard-wired" connection-oriented links of legacy transport systems. Actually, the ability of IP makes a much-needed future-proofing, insulating layer between the services above and the diverse transport technologies below; especially when services and transport technologies are both evolving rapidly. On the other hand, the generality of IP compared with the more-tailored-made transmission technologies it is replacing, such as TDM and ATM, also presents challenges when migrating the often QoS-sensitive and critical applications on to IP. To avoid putting at risk existing revenue streams, the new technology must live up to telecom standards and deliver telecom quality.

The IEC 61850 presents the international standard for communication networks and systems in substations. The standard discusses the detail of the requirements and the architecture of substation automation system as well as data type and format. The TEC 61850 will substitute the traditional hardwired analog communication network using up- to-date communication protocols for interoperability and reliable service. Basically all IEDs are connected through TCP/UDP and IP over Ethernet based LAN to exchange data. Thanks to the Ethernet frame, we can deploy any type of advanced communication technology for communication in substation. This paper discusses the technical issues associated with the communication networks integration in detail. We consider the possible topologies in Ethernet architecture with the topic in the discussion of the pros and cons of their architecture, and the required functionality of each network elements in detail. Several data types, e.g., GOOSE, time synchronization, and FTP, which uses different protocol stack, are used in substation system with their own delay requirements. communication profiles for these services are discussed in this paper. We also present the system configuration, requirements, and architecture of the system. We establish a guideline to build a communication networks in substation automation system based on IEC 61850 and presents the ad-hoc based architecture for survivable substation automation system.

The integration of WLAN and beyond 3G mobile networks offers the possibility of achieving anytime and anywhere Internet access. Moreover the requests for seamless multimedia services and the quality of service (QoS) support have been one of key issues in wireless networks. Therefore the researches relative to seamless multimedia service and QoS over heterogeneous wireless networks have been progressing rapidly. In this paper, we propose interworking architecture for supporting seamless multimedia service and QoS over WLAN and WiBro networks. Based on the proposed inter-working architecture, we also provide both the seamless handover architecture such an inter-network vertical handover and the QoS-aware wireless medium access control (MAC) scheme.
