optical Packet Switched (Of S) networks employing optical Label Switching (OLS) techniques have the potential to enable an all-optical internet. In these networks, data remains in optical format throughout the entire network and routing is performed using a separate optical label. The label information is used to control fast tunable lasers that will transfer data packets to different wavelengths for routing and contention resolution. In this paper we investigate interference between subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) labels in such a network, due to switching events in the tunable laser transmitter. This interference may place a limitation on the channel spacing and subcarrier frequency used. Two 50GHz spaced optical carriers were modulated with 2.5Gbit/s SCM labels at 20GHz. Bit error rate measurements were taken with two lasers fixed 50GHz apart, and also with one of the lasers (an SG-DBR) switching between this channel and another one 800GHz away. When the SG-DBR laser is not switching, a power penalty of approximately 0.25 dB is introduced due to interference through the optical filter. However, when the SG-DBR laser is switching between wavelengths an error floor of 1x10-5 is introduced due to the time it takes the tunable laser to settle to its target channel. In a systems application, this would result in packets being incorrectly routed.

We study the uplink performance of wireless infrared code-division multiple access (CDMA) networks using OOK with optical orthogonal codes (OOC's). The analysis is performed in two cases assuming a cellular networkarchitecture, in which all users are uniformly distributed in the cell's area. The first case is when all users transmit with the same power and no power control mechanism is used. Then, the system that deploys power control mechanism is analyzed and the performance improvements are demonstrated. The impact of imperfect power control which is caused by errors in channel estimation is also analyzed and the analytical and numerical results for all cases are included. The results clearly demonstrate the advantages of using power control algorithms for indoor infrared wireless systems that use OOC modulation techniques

The main problem we want to solve contains two subjects: The first one is the patient's pressure due to wired physiological signal estimation. With wireless sensor network technique, patients only need to carry a few small nodes, and then the physiological signal can be transmitted in the air. The other subject of the vital problem is that some protocols, like Bluetooth, provide a peer to peer wireless communication technique, but such peer to peer network may need a complex algorithm to find the best data transmission path. In this study, we use the hierarchy routing as network topology that three-layer architecture contains PAN coordinator, router and device. The study focuses on implementation of a prototype electrocardiography (ECG) system which replaces wired connections between sensor points and a central node with wireless links. Successful implementation of the final system would be of benefit to all involved in the use of ECG as access to and movement of the patient would not be impeded by the physical constraints imposed by the cables. Most aspects of the design would also be portable to other sensor applications, making the work relevant to a vast range of systems where movement of sensors is desirable and constrained by hard-wired links.

In the last years a great concern has raised among population due to the placement of the base stations (BS) of cellular systems in urban areas. In some cases, it has been addressed with the (re)installation of BSs in far suburban areas. However, in these cases, mobile stations (MS) must raise transmission power. Thus, users may -potentially- suffer a higher radio exposure. In this paper we quantified the variation of the transmission power in this application scenario. The study has been done by means of the OPNET/GSM framework simulation tool. Suitable propagation models and the GSM power control algorithm have been added to the model, in order to compute the MS transmission power in a real environment. Results reveal a significative increment of the MS transmission power when the BS is relocated to suburban areas. Therefore, we conclude that it is necessary to introduce modifications in the GSM networkarchitecture to solve this issue together with the BS placement problem.

Grid applications require a network to transport data between geographically distributed sites. The key characteristics of grid networks include adaptability, scalability, heterogeneity, the ability to span different administrative domains, and the support for various QoS levels. Our design objective is to support continuous large traffic flows between a set of known remote sites. We provision dedicated optical connections directly between end user premises. In this paper, we present a new integrated opticalnetworkarchitecture called polymorphous, agile and transparent opticalnetworks (PATON) which combines different resource scheduling schemes based on polymorphous optical burst switching (POBS) suitable for a variety of applications and services, and address several key technical issues related to the control and management of PATON. These issues include traffic adaptation and grooming, signaling and control packet format, polymorphic control for resource scheduling, and extentions to GMPLS. The resulting PATON compares favorably with other existing approaches presented in our related work [X. Liu et al., 2006].
