Based on a recent market study of an important number of I 2 C devices, all fully compliant with the Philips I 2 C-bus specification, version 2.1, release January 2000, this paper introduces a detailed I 2 C-slave VLSI-architecture that incorporates all necessary features required by modern ASK/SoC applications, except high speed mode. The design is a general purpose solution offering viable ways to controlling I 2 C-bus and highly flexible to suit any particular needs. The purpose of this paper is to provide a full description of an up-to-date I 2 C-slave VLSI-implementation. all related issues, starting from the elaboration of initial specifications, till the final verifications and synthesis, are comprehensively discussed and justified. This includes all issues from basic architectural operations to final software drivers and application. The whole design code, either for synthesis or verification, is implemented in Verilog 2001 (IEEE 1365.) The synthesis design code is technology independent and was simulated at both RTL and gate level with timing back annotation using ModelSim SE 5.8e and synthesized using both Leonardo Spectrum V2001_1d.45 and Xilinx's XST 6.1i

In wireless adhoc and sensor networks a close synergy and coordination is re- quired among entities at di¤erent layers of the network architecture to achieve the robust behavior that is expected from these systems in the potentially harsh environments where they may operate. The volatile wireless channel, the un- predictability of tra￠ c due to unknown tra￠ c generation scenarios as well as variability of the network topology itself due to mobility and node failures set a challenging stage for the network designer. A mathematical network model that captures the interaction of mechanisms at the di¤erent layers, from physical to transport as well as the intricacies of the time varying network topology was con- sidered in [1,2,3] and re?ned and generalized later in several other papers. A brief description of that model is as follows. all the physical and access layer parame- ters including power selection, channel allocation, coding rate etc are collectively represented through a vector I(t). The relevant parameters of the environment that a¤ect the communications as well as the topology of the network itself are represented collectively by the topology state variable S(t).The topology state might not be fully available to the access controller, who may observe only a su￠ cient statistic of that. The collection of bit rates of all the communicat- ing pairs of nodes at each time, I.e. the communication topology, is represented by a function C(I(t);S(t)) where I(t) is selected by the physical/access layer controller. Over the virtual communication topology the tra￠ c ?ows from the origin to the destination according to the network and transport layer protocols. Packets may be generated at any network node having as ?nal destination any other network node potentially several hops away. The main problem we want to solve contains two subjects: The first one is the patient's pressure due to wired physiological signal estimation. With wireless sensor network technique, patients only need to carry a few small nodes, and then the physiological signal can be transmitted in the air. The other subject of the vital problem is that some protocols, like Bluetooth, provide a peer to peer wireless communication technique, but such peer to peer network may need a complex algorithm to find the best data transmission path. In this study, we use the hierarchy routing as network topology that three-layer architecture contains PAN coordinator, router and device. The study focuses on implementation of a prototype electrocardiography (ECG) system which replaces wired connections between sensor points and a central node with wireless links. Successful implementation of the final system would be of benefit to all involved in the use of ECG as access to and movement of the patient would not be impeded by the physical constraints imposed by the cables. Most aspects of the design would also be portable to other sensor applications, making the work relevant to a vast range of systems where movement of sensors is desirable and constrained by hard-wired links

When migrating a service from a legacy system to a target platform, the tasks associated to the introduction of the new platform should be distinguished from the subscriber data migration itself. Migrating the subscriber data of a Prepaid service is a complex operation because data at Application level is checked in real-time when the service is triggered, and further influences the actual behaviour of the service delivered to the end-subscriber. In most cases, telcos want to avoid service interruption for end-subscribers. But the migration steps take some time, so there is always a delay between the moment when subscriber data is dumped from the legacy system and the moment when it can be actually uploaded onto the target platform. Consequently, updates during migration windows cannot be taken into account. In order to avoid any credit loss for the end-subscribers, recharges should be blocked in that time frame. Besides, the routing of the calls and the subscriber location information need to be updated in the customer environment too. A detailed migration procedure involving all the steps on the legacy system, on the target platform, and on the Core network needs to be designed. Two examples of successful Prepaid Migration are given, one at KPNMobile, one at Vodafone. In the context of the IMS architecture, the current issues with Migration could eventually be simplified in the future.

As the DoD evolves its network-centric infrastructure to support transformation, there is an increasing need to use a structured process to develop and optimize GIG-enabled networked communications and their underlying waveform layers. This paper describes an approach to this problem using DoD architecture framework (DoDAF), which has been tailored (waveform DoDAF) for the development of networked communication waveforms. We also cover the network modeling and simulation (M&S) process which supports validation and optimization of the resulting waveform protocols. The challenge of today's communication waveform specification working groups centers around the problem of generating a waveform that maximizes customer utility and data throughput, while effectively managing network connectivity, quality of service, and spectrum use. Existing, ad-hoc waveform specification methods lack operational discipline and typically do not result in a waveform meeting DoD needs. The waveform DoDAF methodology centers on a systematic transfer function from operational views (OVs), through communication laydowns or system views (SVs), to detailed waveform requirements. Using this process, complex multi-access mechanisms, physical layer attributes and layer 2/3 protocols are linked to operationally-based drivers, not stove-piped engineering concepts. An overview of each step of the process is covered, along with examples of OV, SV, and waveform views for key network-centric use-case scenarios. The paper includes a waveform application example showing the successful use of waveform DoDAF for the generation of a GIG-enabled, high capacity, RF wideband mesh networking waveform. The approach described in this paper can be used for all types of communication waveforms, including narrowband RF, wideband RF, and free-space optical (FSO) communications.

A traditional way to improve security of wired computer network can be achieved by applying access control policies to the front door of network. However these policies may be not sufficient and effective any more when applied to the wireless local area networks (WLANs). WLANs are different from the traditional wired LANs in terms of their exposure to potential threats, vulnerability and security techniques. Intrusions to WLANs are facts of the everyday life and handling them becomes more and more difficult. Currently there is no standardised reference model which may help to design, compare and evaluate the existing or future intrusion handling systems (IHSs) for WLANs. Analysis of the commercial IHSs shows that they all are built as a proprietary systems which are neither taking into consideration existence of other IHSs nor they are trying to find the ways to establish inter-IHS collaboration which may help to achieve better security for the end- users. Hence this paper starts by an analysis of the features of existing IHSs for WLANs, follows with proposing the new ways to enhance their design, and then is discussing development of such a novel reference model for a scalable distributed IHS architecture.

Current automobiles have made significant progress in increased safety and comfort, higher fuel efficiency, less pollution, easier handling, etc. all this is due to the tremendous evolution in electronics, which offer higher performance at lower cost at a very rapid pace. As such vehicle electronics have become very large and complex distributed systems, comprising up to 100 networked electronic control units -ECUs. Guaranteeing a high quality of these very complex systems is an urging requirement of current and future highly complex systems. This can be achieved by introducing more and more standard modules in hardware and/or software -AutoSar worldwide standardization efforts are showing the way. As these standard modules typically will be supplied by different suppliers -this will lead to additional cost cut -the problem of guaranteeing interoperability between networked ECUs, containing mixed suppliers standard sub-modules. Experience shows that the specification of standard modules in most cases is not sufficiently precise. Therefore the interoperability of distributed ECUs is endangered. A proven means to reduce the risk of lacking interoperability of standard modules in cooperating ECUs are conformance tests. This paper discusses the interoperability problem referring to example of LIN network standard hardware/software modules. The typical specification process for related conformance tests, the implementation architecture and some test experience is described.

Recently, many humanoid robots can be formed on television programs and public events. In this paper, we pay attention to such robots. Under this background, diverse parts have been developed and many symposiums have been held to share domain knowledge with many engineers. Furthermore, as for the robot technology, we think that a robot which makes humanlike movement and general view has been developed. However, if a multifunction robot were developed, it could work instead of a human and our lifes could be more convenient and less risky. However autonomous action is very difficult to achieve because a robot cannot recognize varying environment all of the time. In this paper, we focus on how to recognize such environments. The environment is recognized using a camera and is learned with a neural network (NN). The autonomous action can be learned by the NN on the robot or transferred from a PC after action learning. In this work, we use the latter method, and then transmit the image that is necessary to control the robot from a PC because the robot cannot acquire the image by itself

In this paper, we propose a novel method to address the problem of designing virtual topology over WDM networks under traffic demand uncertainties. We present a traffic model under uncertainties. The optimization goal of virtual topology design is defined as minimizing the maximum value among p percentiles of the traffic distribution on all light-paths. Correspondingly, we propose a heuristic algorithm called ID-MLTDA (Improved Decreasing Multi-hop Logical Topology Design) that involves with a degree of uncertainties to design virtual topology. The proposed algorithm yields better performance than previous algorithms. Additionally, the simplicity and efficiency of the proposed algorithm can be in favor of the feasibility for topology design of large networks.

optical burst switching has been receiving increased attention as a promising technology for building the next-generation optical Internet. This article presents the design and discusses the implementation of an overlay mode optical burst-switched network testbed. A flexible "transceiver + forwarding" edge node architecture is proposed to perform both electronic burst assembly/disassembly and optical burst forwarding. It is designed to provide class of service and wavelength selection for locally generated bursts, and transparency to cut-through bursts. The functional modules of the control plane and related key design issues are presented. In particular, we discuss a scheduling mechanism that efficiently combines two different contention resolutions in space and wavelength domains. Experimental results show the effectiveness of this scheme in reducing burst blocking probability. Furthermore, the performance of the network testbed and corresponding methods of improving it are discussed.
