Summary form only given. Inter-vehicle communication, an important component of intelligent transportation system, performs crucial functions in collision avoidance, road-hazard notification, and coordinated driving system. An inter-vehicle communication network is an instantiation of a mobile ad hoc network, which is characterized by multi-hop wireless communications among mobile nodes without any centralized control infrastructure. However, automotive ad hoc networks behaves in fundamentally different ways than the models that predominate mobile ad hoc network research. Driver behavior, constraints on mobility and high speeds create unique characteristics in such networks. They are characterized by rapid but somewhat predictable topology changes, with frequent fragmentation, a small effective network diameter, and redundancy that is limited temporally and functionally. The motivation of this research is to propose an effective approach to topology management under these constraints. Apparently flat structure is not suited to vehicular ad hoc networks since it is impossible for every node to acquire the global topology information. all participating nodes must be organized hierarchically so that only local information is required to exchange and global information is hidden for single node. Clustering is an important technique to implement hierarchical structure. Several heuristic clustering techniques have been proposed to choose cluster heads in an ad hoc network. These are lowest-ID, highest-degree and node-weight heuristics. However they cannot be deployed directly in ad hoc vehicular networks since their design objectives are not for highly mobility vehicular networks. The metrics used in these proposals are frequently changed. In this paper, we propose a new clustering technique, position-based hierarchical clustering, which incorporates position information into a novel hierarchical clustering technique. The end-to-end provisioning delay will be a crucial metric for service level agreements because rapid, dynamic service provisioning is expected to be the killer application for the success of future optical networks. In this paper we study analytically and assess experimentally, in an ASON/GMPLS test bed, the delays experienced by all the network elements and components involved in the provisioning of soft-permanent connections. This is done according to an approach for designing the management-control architecture which is compliant with the ITU-T.

The papers deals with a concept of a novel wireless smart sensor network system, which represents the system architecture formed by a set of the wireless smart pressure IEEE 1451 sensors connected via a Bluetooth connection and a network concentrator/controller based on (i) a PDA personal digital assistant or (ii) a GSM SmartPhone. A novel innovative design enables direct control of the whole system by those smart devices with Bluetooth connectivity. The special software applications were developed for IPAQ PDA 5450 and Nokia 3650 SmartPhone for monitoring, parameter setting and exploiting all embedded functions of the novel smart pressure sensors with Bluetooth wireless interface (slave function). Another SW application for standard PC enables to process data in MS Office formats. This wireless system virtual port enables to configure the sensor, to sense and to record data by remote reading and/or writing via a Bluetooth SPP supported port by a PC, a PDA or a SmartPhone equipped with a Bluetooth standard access module

Summary form only given. It is widely acknowledged that the convergence is the way to evolve the existing wireline and wireless networks towards next generation networks. IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) stemming from the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is presently deemed as being instrumental to support wireline and wireless convergence (also referred to as fixed mobile convergence (FMC)). However, even though the notion of IMS is access agnostic, lots of open issues still need to be investigated for integrating various access technologies into IMS framework, one of significant concern is the framework and mechanisms to support end-to-end QoS in the IMS and NGNs. This talk will discuss the challenges and requirements of resource and admission control for supporting end-to-end QoS in the converged NGNs. It will address the architecture and key mechanisms to perform policy control, call admission control and resource management etc. in IMS enabled NGNs over various wireless and wireline access networks, e.g. UMTS/CDMA, DSL and cable network etc. Finally the related IMS/NGN standard activities in ITU-T, TISPAN and 3GPP will be introduced.

This paper proposes a budget-based management infrastructure, BBQ, for all-IP networks to offer end-to-end QoS assurance to their services. In this scheme, the quality bound of each component network is controlled based on a calculated budget plan. End-to-end QoS is assured by a global QoS management agent. The management issues include software architectures in different layers, class based admission and resource reservation policies, as well as resource management infrastructure, policies, and mechanisms. The objective of this infrastructure is to facilitate network operators to tune their networks with a great flexibility and scalability to achieve their own operational objectives

The increased reliance on IT technologies has given rise to an increased risks relative to malicious cyber-security events. Research into the operational testing of cyber-security solutions, particularly within large-scale high bandwidth network environments, has not kept pace with the development of new security approaches and ever increasing network speeds. Current testing methods are generally limited to: (a) experiments conducted on small-scale research networks, (b) experiments conducted on pre-recorded network data or (c) active deployments on operational large scale networks. In the each case, issues exist either in the representativeness of the test environments to real world situations or the scientific repeatability of the experiments or both. A particularly complex issue is the sensitivity of reported results to background (normal) traffic characteristics existing at the time of experimentation. This work, presents the architecture of a cyber-security test facility under development designed address these issues.

Distributed generation (DG) systems are potential solutions for efficient and economic integration of many non-conventional energy sources into the existing power grid. Among various alternative power sources, fuel cells are strong candidates for DG applications. Suitable interfacing of such resources into the DG network critically depends on design and performance of the power conversion stage. In this work, the design and experimental results of a utility interactive fuel cell inverter system for DG application are discussed. A series resonant DC-DC converter coupled with a sinusoidal pulse width modulated (SPWM) inverter is considered as the power stage. While connected to the grid, the inverter works in the current controlled mode. Stand-alone mode of operation is maintained through a voltage-controlled scheme. A DSP (TMS320F2812) based feedback control architecture and aspects of utilizing controller area network (CAN) fieldbus within the DG network are discussed. Compatibility with the existing DG standards, cost issues, and performance indices are analyzed with reference to experimental results. control, communication, and challenges of integrating fuel cell systems into the distribution grid are also highlighted

This paper investigates code assignment and transmission scheduling schemes for code-limited optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) networks, where the number of nodes exceeds the number of codes. We present an architectural design of a coordinated access scheme based on a centralized gated-polling controller, and evaluate its performance in terms of scheduling delays and achievable throughputs. In particular, this paper proposes a list-scheduling algorithm for code assignment and analyzes its near-optimal performance. With theoretic analyses and simulations, we derive the relationships among system capacity, traffic load, and network performance, and establish an analytical framework to address practical issues regarding O-CDMA network planning. Performance results indicate that the code-limited system can achieve high throughputs at the expense of scheduling delays. The capacity requirement of the control channel is also investigated to ensure system stability. These results provide an in-depth insight into network dynamics of code-limited systems and can serve as guidelines for network planning and algorithm design

We introduce a new concept of management system based on the scalable communication framework effectively working on mixture of several complex layers including private networks. Overlay network architecture with virtual IP addressing has been applied to identify nodes uniquely. Inter-node communication on different private networks is ensured by defined complex network protocol (CNP). We also develop a communication middleware for the cluster management system called SARK (scalable architecture routing kernel). The total elapsed time for gathering all information and its system overhead are measured. The scalability test performed on the cluster of clusters which contains 100 nodes, and shows our proposed work would be scalable in the cluster of 4,000 nodes. Therefore, our scalable communication framework would be considered as a suitable method for monitoring and controlling a large cluster system on mixture of several complex network layers
