This report documents the results of an internal DRS effort to develop an Ethernet based integrated defense system to improve defense of cities, harbors, airports, power production, energy supplies, bridges, monuments, dams and so forth. Results of the integration of multiple SCOUT LPI radars and multiple Electrooptical targeting systems will be provided, illustrating the benefits of interfacing surveillance radars with imaging sensors to confirm detection and provide visual recognition and identification. An analysis of the handover errors will be provided including errors due to;sensor platforms location and orientation uncertainty, target location measurement errors, data latency and motion prediction errors, which contribute to target handoff and the reacquisition timeline. These predictions will be compared to measured results. The system architecture will be defined including;security, support for both stationary and moving sensor platforms, remote control of sensor systems and distribution of imagery through the network and remote diagnostics, maintenance and software upgrades. Growth capabilities include secure wireless communication to/from moving platforms, integration with sonar and seismic sensors, cooperative location of friendly forces and acoustic detection and triangulation of gunshots with automated cueing of sensors and security forces to the shooters most probable location. The use of ad hoc multi-hopping wireless networking supplements hardwire networks, augments disaster response capabilities, provides high-speed communications for moving platforms and supplements GPS outage areas.

This paper is concerned with a bicriteria combinatorial optimization Problem and its applications to the design of communicationnetworks for distributed controllers. In a bipartite graph, a subset of the edges yields a communicationnetwork for which we pay a price but, on the other hand, it induces another network that encompasses the former and for which we receive a reward. The problem is then to find the efficient solutions. The paper delivers an IP formulation for the problem of finding supported solutions, which is shown to be NP-Hard, along with families of strong valid inequalities, which are shown to draw the LP bounds closer to the Pareto optimal frontier. To approximate the frontier, heuristics are integrated in a problem-solving architecture called asynchronous team and then put to the test in two prototypical scenarios. The current trend in the telecommunication world is the proposal of a universal telecommunication system deriving from the convergence between mobile telephony and data transmission. To achieve such a convergence in an efficient way, it is presumably necessary to utilize a network platform totally based on TCP/IP architecture (an 'all-IP network'). However, the encapsulation process of TCP/IP wastes a substantial part of the radio channel bandwidth for the transmission of control information (header) that does not have any specific function at radio level. Since this bandwidth is generally the most expensive and limited resource for wireless networks, it is necessary to adopt a header compression scheme that can reduce the protocol overhead while working efficiently and robustly under noisy links with time-variant BER conditions. In this paper, a new header compression scheme for TCP streams as a specific header compression profile within the IETF ROHC (robust header compression) framework is proposed and analyzed through simulations exploiting network simulator (ns-2). The proposed scheme, compliant with IETF requirements for TCP/IP header compression, is based on the distinct management of data and acknowledgment (ACK) streams associated with the TCP connection and exploits a robust header encoding technique for reducing the effect of error propagation. The results obtained, in terms of throughput, overhead and goodput, are reported as a function of bandwidth and BER. A comparison with the results obtained without compression allows us to evaluate the performance of the proposed compression scheme in a realistic and dynamic environment. Copyright (C) 2004 AEI.

A model for survivability assessment of IP-MPLS networks implemented directly in optical transport networks OTN (WDM) is described under assumptions as follows: end-to-end path protection;preplanned node-disjoint, dedicated or shared, backup path for each working path;distributed control of all top-down restoration actions;LSP-to-lightpath mapping minimizing the number of wavelengths converters. Survivability of such networks has a fundamental importance, since a single link cut can affect extremely large traffic volumes. The optimization problem of survivable routing and wavelength assignment (SRWA) can be decomposed into a survivable routing followed by a wavelength assignment optimization problem. They are stated as the mixed integer and integer programming problems, respectively. Unfortunately, they both are NP-complete. Heuristic algorithms are proposed to solve the problems. The presented approach has been verified by means of simulation. Some results of the large number of simulation experiments investigating networks: DARPA, and NSF are described and discussed. Conclusions help in better understanding of survivability issues in IP-MPLS networks. all results are the original contribution and are published for the first time.

The effectiveness of a HWIL facility for developing missile guidance and targeting systems is limited by the quality of the elements that simulate the continuous physical processes. A motion simulator, which stimulates the inertial measurement and targeting sensors, must produce motion that is consistent with the actual physical processes. The effectiveness of a HWIL simulation is progressively degraded by each non-ideal element or process in the loop. The interface between the simulation computer and the motion system is traditionally a problematic link that is resolved once and for all in the Acutrol3000 Motion control instrumentation. This paper focuses on issues relating to data synchronization, time skew correction, multi-rate data smoothing, and reduced state motion vectors. Concepts are addressed and results are presented.

In the optical burst-switching (OBS) system, IP-over-WDM network has been paid great attention due to its bandwidth efficiency and adaptive traffic load accommodation. However, the abrupt burst for large traffic loads will result in unbearable performance degradation in the traditional JET network. To combat with the load sensitivity, a wavelength-routed OBS (WR-OBS) networkarchitecture was confirmed effective. We have proposed a distributed control WR-OBS networkarchitecture combining JET protocol with a two-way reservation method. Based on this architecture, two new resource reservation protocols are compared by evaluating performance. Computer simulation results demonstrate that improvement of burst blocking probability can be achieved in backward reservation protocol and all these two control protocols outperform traditional JET OBS network.

Along with the developing of science and the social demands, multifarious alarming system has been designed and improved to be intelligentized, modularized and have network connections. It is of great moment to make the storage, and further more, the logistics system more and more efficient and perfect, with modem science and technology. Diversified information on the spot should be caught by different kinds of sensors. Those signals are treated and communicated to the control center to give the further actions. For fire-proofing, broad-spectrum gas sensors, fume sensors, flame sensors and temperature sensors are used to catch the information in their own ways. Once the fire is taken somewhere, the sensors work by the fume, temperature, and flame as well as gas immediately. Meanwhile the intelligent control system starts. It passes the tidings to the center unit. At the same time, it sets those movable walls on to work quickly to obstruct the fire's spreading. While for guarding the warehouse against theft, cut-off sensors, body sensors, photoelectric sensors, microwave sensors and closed-circuit television as well as electronic clocks are available to monitor the warehouse reasonably. all of those sensors work in a net way. The intelligent control system is made with a digital circuit instead of traditional switch one. This system can work in a better way in many cases. Its reliability is high and the cost is low.
