Micro system has some restrictions, when optical system have been structured in a multiple style. These affect their applications. In order to solve the problems of multiple structures in the system, new sensors and components are adding in, which is developing the design method and system configuration. Results show that geometrical optics and optical aberration theory as a foundation, the degree of freedom in design is increased without changing the lens weight, size and structure obviously.

Richard Feynman's method of path integrals is based on the fundamental assumption that a system starting at a point A and arriving at a point B takes all possible paths from A to B, with each path contributing its own (complex) probability amplitude. The sum of the amplitudes over all these paths then yields the overall probability amplitude that the system starting at A would end up at B. We apply Feynman's method to several optical systems of practical interest and discuss the nuances of the method as well as instances where the predicted outcomes agree or disagree with those of classical optical theory. Examples include the properties of beam-splitters, passage of single photons through Mach-Zehnder and Sagnac interferometers, electric and magnetic dipole scattering, reciprocity, time-reversal symmetry, the optical theorem, the Ewald-Oseen extinction theorem, far field diffraction, and the two-photon interference phenomenon known as the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect.

Freeform optics are used to create complex application-adapted illuminance distributions due to their high number of adjustable degrees of freedom. As with conventional optics, this can result for some applications in large optics that exceed the available installation space or lead to high production costs. While the use of Fresnel lenses is common in such cases for conventional optics, the Fresnelization step in the design process of freeform optics is more complex due to the lack of rotational symmetry and only done for specific cases. Therefore, this paper presents a method to examine different segmentation strategies on freeform lenses and to optimize Fresnelization parameters. In this work, the method will be demonstrated using a head-up display (HUD) as example, in which the combination of a Fresnel lens and a display creates a moire pattern in the illuminance distribution. In order to accelerate the simulation of complex Fresnel freeform optics considerably, a special ray tracing algorithm is developed, which takes advantage of the segmentation characteristics. The simulation approach of the illuminance distribution and the optimization of the Fresnelization are shown and discussed on a lens with about 300 segments visibly reducing the moire pattern.

A range compensating lens design in the return channel for active optical systems, e.g., range finders and LiDARs, is detailed and several examples analyzed using raytrace methods. This proposed range compensating lens, which reduces the "one over range squared" attenuation, is described by Mudge [Appl. Opt., 58, 7921-7928, (2019)]. The motivation of the lens is to reduce the return signal with targets (objects) relatively near and boost the signal at far range targets by combining lens elements in parallel rather than in series, as typically done. Using the technique provided in the reference, to include field angle details, a designer can develop a lens requiring a detector with less dynamic range and/or extend the far range limit while maintaining the minimum target distance. We provide discussion to implement this approach along with a variety of examples of this range compensating lens to cover design techniques needed for the return lens desired and include some penalties incurred.

Correlation between computational models and corresponding experimental data of stray light produced by unwanted diffraction orders of diffractive lenses is described. It is shown that the attractive scaler model under Fresnel approximation does not agree with experimental data. The validity of Fresnel approximation for multi-order focusing optics is derived to explain the limitation of the scaler approach. Geometrical models with both coherent and incoherent summation of each diffractive orders coupled with efficiency estimation is used with success. The model takes into account the local diffraction efficiency and also of the number of diffractive orders supported locally by the structure. This geometrical optics model can be used in standard optical design software. Therefore it may be recommended as an additional tool for stray light analysis at the design stage of hybrid refractive/diffractive optical systems. In a second part, the impact of unwanted diffraction orders when diffractive optics is used in visible imaging systems is discussed. Several experimental observations about the use of plastic refractive/diffractive lens in relation to different fabrication process used to build the lens are also discussed. From those observations, we recommend an approach to reduce the stray light produced by the diffractive lens. In conclusion, a serious stray light analysis is mandatory in the design of visible imaging systems using diffractive lenses.

Dual field of view optical systems provide search, detect and observation abilities with wide and narrow field of views. These systems provide dual field of view by changing the effective focal length with moving a lens or lens group mechanically to exact positions. In this paper, previously proposed methodology is used to change effective focal length without any mechanical movement. This methodology relies on ionization of fluid with voltage difference to change the refractive index which is patented in 2022.

Miniature optical systems utilizing arrays of lenses had been conceived by the early part of this century. More recent uses for multi-aperture optics have included Hartmann wavefront sensing and agile beam steering. To support our own research efforts in micro-optics Adaptive optics Associates, Inc. developed first-order raytrace software that is capable of modeling multi-aperture systems. The graphical user interface at the heart of this software gives a CAD- like utility to the program, which is a powerful tool for the micro-optics design engineer. The article discusses the benefits of such an interface. Several examples of micro-optics systems taken from available literature are analyzed.

As a new non-destructive imaging technology in the field of biomedicine, photoacoustic imaging technology combines the advantages of pure optical and pure acoustic imaging with good spatial resolution, high sensitivity, and strong penetrating power. In the photoacoustic microscopy imaging system, the acousto -optic coupling prism is a component for optical transmission and ultrasonic detection. It is usually composed of an irregular prism and a spherical concave acoustic lens at the bottom. Because the spherical acoustic lens has a poor focusing effect on the ultrasonic beam, the accuracy of ultrasonic detection is low. In order to solve this problem, we propose an optimization method to eliminate the influence of acoustic lens on the beam transmission. A collimating lens is added to the acousto-optic coupling prism with an aspheric acoustic lens at the bottom of the system. In this paper, Zemax optimizes the curvature coefficient and thickness of the collimating lens to eliminate the deteriorating effect of the aspheric acoustic lens on the beam transmission, and evaluates the optimization effect by analyzing the spot and MTF image. The simulation results show that the collimating lens can eliminate the influence of the aspheric acoustic lens on the beam transmission, so that the optical focus and the acoustic focus can be kept coaxial and confocal, and the detection efficiency of the photoacoustic signal can be improved. This work has theoretical guiding significance for the study of photoacoustic microscopy imaging with large depth of field.

We present a homodyne detection system implemented for a page-wise holographic memory architecture. Homodyne detection by holographic memory systems enables phase quadrature multiplexing (doubling address space), and lower exposure times (increasing read transfer rates). It also enables phase modulation, which improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to further increase data capacity. We believe this is the first experimental demonstration of homodyne detection for a page-wise holographic memory system suitable for a commercial design.
