Scheduling in cloud computing is a paramount activity that not only schedules the jobs but also focuses on resource provisioning, management, allocation, mapping, load balancing, etc., as well as prioritizing the tasks. The critical review through this paper emphasizes different environments in cloud resources, such as heterogeneous and homogeneous, and also discusses different task and resource scheduling approaches for the same. The overview of cloud and cloud schedulers gives a clear idea about the different tasks of schedulers. In this structured review, which selects the appropriate resources by following the effective review methodology with a specific motivation, different existing scheduling approaches are discussed. Based on the analysis of existing studies, the current research challenges and future directions are also presented in this study. Overall, the taxonomy, challenges, and future directions of the cloud schedulers in homogeneous and heterogeneous environments provide a clear understanding to the readers in order to research advancements in this research area. © 2025 IEEE.

Blockchain technology has emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the security, transparency, and efficiency of electronic voting systems. This review paper presents a comprehensive analysis of recent research papers, examining various cryptographic techniques, consensus mechanisms, and blockchain frameworks designed to address critical issues such as voter anonymity, coercion resistance, and election integrity. The findings are categorized into key themes: security, privacy, scalability, verifiability, and performance, with an emphasis on advanced methods like biometric encryption and quantum key distribution. Emerging trends, including quantum cryptography and decentralized governance, are explored as future avenues for innovation. Despite these advancements, challenges related to governance, user engagement, legal frameworks, and system interoperability persist. This research focuses on the evolving field of hybrid computing, which combines traditional computing architectures with advanced computational paradigms like quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, or cloud-edge computing. Hybrid computing involves integrating multiple computing models or systems to leverage their complementary strengths. For example, combining classical computing with quantum or neuromorphic approaches to solve complex problems more efficiently. The goal is to enhance computational power, increase efficiency, and tackle problems that are difficult for traditional computing models alone. Emerging technologies, including quantum computing, machine learning, and AI, are driving the need for hybrid systems. These technologies enable the handling of more complex computations that classical systems struggle with, such as optimization, simulation, and cryptography. The integration of cloud and edge computing is also central to hybrid computing, enabling decentralized computation and processing closer to data sources. Combining different computing paradigms requires seamless communication and integration between systems, which is a significant technical challenge. Main challenging areas are scalability, software and hardware compatibility, energy efficiency and security. There is a need for standard protocols and frameworks to enable smoother integration of various computing systems. New algorithms that can take advantage of hybrid architectures need to be developed. The journey from 2G to emerging 6G is impressive, mirroring the long evolutionary path of wireless communication technology. We address critical transitions in cellular networks in light of architectural transformation, performance metrics, and the enablers of new technologies. Key trends identified: from Kbps data rate growth exponentially in 2G to Tbps in 6G;a fall of latency from the 500-ms level to sub-millisecond latency;and more importantly, from human-centric communication to machine-centric communication. It will bring some breakthrough technologies, like terahertz communications, intelligent reflecting surfaces, and quantum computing integration, revolutionizing the network configuration and capability. 6G networks will highlight many unprecedented applications such as holographic communications and extended reality;however, that is not possible without addressing various challenges related to spectrum efficiency, energy optimization, and security challenges. This report synthesized technical literature, standardization documents, and industry insights to propose a roadmap of future wireless networks with innovative and AI-integrated spectrum utilization concepts and sustainable designs. The results are critical to researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in the shaping of the next generation of wireless communication systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Edge computing has emerged as a crucial paradigm to fulfill the increasing demand for rapid data processing, low latency, and efficient resource utilization, particularly in applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and automated industrial systems. By processing data closer to its source, edge computing minimizes reliance on centralized cloud infrastructures, thereby improving response times and optimizing bandwidth. However, this transition also presents significant security challenges, including heightened risks of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, data breaches, and unauthorized physical access to edge nodes. This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of these security vulnerabilities, presenting a framework that integrates advanced defence mechanisms and algorithms tailored to enhance data protection and resource management in edge environments. Our findings indicate that the proposed strategies effectively mitigate identified threats while maintaining system performance. Furthermore, we outline ongoing challenges related to scalability, interoperability, and data governance, providing insights into future research avenues aimed at fortifying edge computing systems against evolving security threats. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the critical role edge computing plays in the domain of next-generation computing technologies. © 2025 IEEE.

Integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) with cloud computing has presented a groundbreaking worldview, rethinking communications and data sharing among the connected devices. This chapter thoroughly investigates cloud-based IoT, including its architecture, advantages, challenges, and future possibilities. Cloud technologies enhance IoT capabilities, such as, data collection, storage, processing, and analysis. As the current information technology trends mature and their popularity increases in terms of providing novel applications, there is an observance of a deluge of connected gadgets, and hence cloud computing becomes a strategic partner in fulfilling the diverse requirements of efficient IoT data management. In general, the research focuses on performing a systematic review of the extant literature with regard to security and performance considerations for cloud-based IoT systems. More, specifically, it delves into the critical aspects of data security, system performance optimization, and interoperability among existing platforms and novel applications. Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are a cornerstone of intelligent transportation systems, enabling vehicles to communicate with each other and roadside infrastructure to enhance traffic safety and efficiency. Securing VANETs remains a critical challenge due to the dynamic and decentralized nature of vehicular communications. This paper reviews and analyzes various distributed technologies-blockchain, fog computing, and federated learning-deployed for enhancing VANET security. Each technology's efficacy in addressing some of the security issues is assessed, revealing its strengths in improving data integrity and trustworthiness. However, challenges such as scalability limitations, high computational overheads, and susceptibility to single point of failure persist. future research directions are proposed to bolster fault tolerance, load balancing, and scalability, aiming to advance the resilience and efficiency of distributed VANET security solutions. © 2025 IEEE.

The quality of air and water is essential for human health, environmental sustainability, and ecosystem balance. However, pollution from industrial activities, urbanization, and agricultural practices has made effective environmental monitoring a global priority. Traditional monitoring methods, which rely on manual sampling and laboratory analysis, are often time-consuming and lack real-time capabilities. This paper presents a Smart Environmental Monitoring (SEM) system leveraging IoT and sensor technology to monitor air and water quality in real time using two key sensors: the MQ135 for Air Quality Index (AQI) and the pH sensor for Water Quality Index (WQI). By focusing on these two critical parameters, the SEM system offers a streamlined yet robust solution for assessing environmental quality. The system collects data continuously, transmits it to a cloud platform for processing, and employs machine learning algorithms to forecast future pollution trends. A user-friendly dashboard displays real-time AQI and WQI levels, historical trends, and predictive insights, empowering users to respond proactively to environmental risks. Deployment results demonstrate the SEM system's capability in detecting pollution patterns, identifying high-risk areas, and predicting pollution spikes during peak traffic and in industrial zones. Comparative analysis with traditional monitoring highlights the SEM system's superior accuracy, scalability, and predictive abilities. Although the SEM system has higher initial setup costs, its operational efficiency and long-term benefits in mitigating environmental risks make it a sustainable choice for public health and environmental management. © 2025 IEEE.

Autonomous driving technologies have progressed significantly, promising enhanced transportation safety, reduced congestion, and improved mobility. A critical aspect of these systems is trajectory prediction, which allows autonomous vehicles (AVs) to forecast the future movements of surrounding agents, such as vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Accurate trajectory prediction is essential for AVs to avoid collisions, make informed decisions, and navigate complex environments. However, real-world trajectory prediction remains challenging due to the dynamic nature of traffic environments, influenced by road geometry, traffic regulations, and agent interactions. Recent advancements in deep learning, particularly transformer-based architectures and multimodal prediction techniques, have shown promise in modeling complex interactions and uncertainty in dynamic environments. Furthermore, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have emerged as a key tool for capturing multi-agent dependencies. Despite these developments, challenges such as scalability, handling edge cases, and real-time performance persist. This paper provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art trajectory forecasting models, discussing their strengths, limitations, and future research directions in the context of autonomous driving. The review also highlights the role of datasets in advancing the field and the importance of optimizing models for real-world deployment. © 2025 IEEE.
