Two opticaldesigns for marine beacon based on Direct In-line Package (DIP) LED is proposed and demonstrated. The luminous intensity of the marine beacon using DIP LED can achieve to the IALA recommendation's requirement of 5 nautical miles. The measurement of color coordinates can also fit the IALA recommendation's requirement. By the surface-structured TIR lens, we successfully keep the divergence angle to 68 degrees in the horizontal direction and converge to 8 degrees in the vertical direction.

We propose a novel method to correct the spherical and coma aberration using a hybrid element (refractive-diffractive). The refractive surface is used to correct the coma, we obtain this condition curving the second principal plane and centred it on the axial point image. The diffractive element is used to correct the spherical aberration using an exact ray trace and the diffractive coefficients as variables. The optimization routine is no required. The fabrication of curved compound eye camera systems is usually complex since it can involve multiple nonstandard components to achieve the desired effect. In this paper we aim to provide a close alternative to these custom optical elements using off the shelf components or to provide a framework to design these systems using standard fabrication techniques. We will first demonstrate how lens distortion can be leveraged to optically bend a standard planar microlens array, and how this bending correlates to a curved microlens array. We will then show lab results of curved compound eye camera made using an off-the-shelf fisheye lens and a standard microlens array and how the equivalent curved microlens array system reproduces image in the real world and provide a comparison using image simulation from an opticaldesign software and a scene recorded using a neural radiance field.

This paper presents a refractive optical system consisting of two lens bodies with helical surface structures, which allows for tuning the optical refraction power by means of a mutual rotation of the lens bodies around the optical axis. Thus, the refraction power can be tuned continuously in a certain range. The helical surfaces are shaped by changing the radius of curvature as a function of to the polar angle. Combination of such two surfaces results in an optics with refraction power being tunable by a mutual rotation. This optical system is multifocal with at least two sectors with different individually tunable refraction powers. To obtain a monofocal rotation optics, obscuration of one of the lens sectors is necessary. Conventional lens systems providing tunable refraction power do so by mutual axial or lateral shift of the lenses or the lens parts. Hence, additional space for lens movement is needed in the mechanical design. Since the rotational optics allows for adjustment of the refraction power by a mutual rotation of the lens parts, no displacement of lenses is needed and a more compact design is obtained.

A new three-dimensional analytic optics design method is presented that enables the coupling of three ray sets with only two free-form lens surfaces. Closely related to the Simultaneous Multiple Surface method in three dimensions (SMS3D), it is derived directly from Fermat's principle, leading to multiple sets of functional differential equations. The general solution of these equations makes it possible to calculate more than 80 coefficients for each implicit surface function. Ray tracing simulations of these free-form lenses demonstrate superior imaging performance for applications with high aspect ratio, compared to conventional rotational symmetric systems.

Generative design leverages developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud computing to enable a paradigm shift in the design process, allowing the engineer to focus on defining the requirements and objectives of the design while AI generates optimized designs which comply with the input requirements. Digital Manufacturing allows these complex lightweight designs to be efficiently manufactured by directly fabricating from the resulting 3D models. The development of these two Digital engineering technologies realizes significant mass savings while simultaneously reducing structure development time from months to days. This paper describes the development of the Evolved Structures process applying these technologies to spaceflight optical instrument structures including an example demonstrating greater than 10x reduction in development time/cost and greater than 3x improvement in structural performance.

A luminaire designed for tunnel lighting is proposed, featuring the ability to adjust the ratio between counter-beam and pro-beam lighting based on different contexts. This allows the luminaire to achieve the optimal lighting mode for the conditions within the tunnel at that time. When both side LEDs are activated, it operates in symmetric lighting mode. When a single-side LED is activated, it switches to either counter-beam or pro-beam lighting mode. The advantage of this luminaire lies in the use of a single freeform secondary lens and LEDs, making installation simpler. It ensures driver safety and is more energy-efficient than traditional tunnel lights.
