An optically passive athermal infrared optical system working in the 8 - 12 micron long wavelength infrared band was designed by using a special infrared optical material AMTIR (amorphous material transmitting infrared radiation). The design principle, design results are described in this paper. In addition, the optical system was incorporated with an infrared focal plane array forming an infrared camera. The thermal test of imaging quality of this camera is also presented

Introduction of coefficients defining the relationship of the radii of curvature of the surfaces of concentric optical systems, allowed the transformation of the obtained analytical relations in a system of two equations with two unknowns. It is shown that the existence of the solution of the system of equations determined by the optical constants of the selected lens material. The results of the analysis of the conditions of the chromatic aberration correction position and the sequence of obtaining of the system equations define the theoretical basis of the engineering method of parametric synthesis of concentric lens systems. Application of the developed method is illustrated by examples of calculation particular systems design build.

This paper presents a methodology for designing an athermalised dual field of view zoom lens in long wave infrared (8 mu m - 12 mu m) spectral band by using the benefits of paraxial optics. By using this design methodology the optical designer can develop many types of complex optical systems in a straightforward way. The key feature of this design methodology relies on utilization of paraxial optics for defining the initial positions of the optical elements. The optical design is based on moving a single lens for changing the optical system's FOV thereby reducing the number of moving parts and simplifying the assembly procedure of the system. The optical design begins with optimization process using paraxial optics. Then the optical design using paraxial optics is used as a template for designing the final optical system by lens material selection for compensating the shift in system's focus due to thermal effects and lens thickness tuning.

The paper presents a new processing method for design and fabrication of microlens by microfluidic deposition, in which the lenses can be formed on the media with high precise location in the fabrication process. First we may apply physical vaporization deposition (PVD) or spin coating to fabricate a thin film;secondly, the hydrophilic pattern specified by the mask of lenses can be created by photolithography, where the special lens media is made herein. Finally, the liquid solution of lens material is deposited onto the predetermined location of the lens media by the drop-on-demand fluidic actuator;thus, the microlenses are consequently formed after the complete evaporation of solvent in the solution.

It consists of the objective lens and Holographic optical Element. In this paper, combining refractive and diffractive effects, a new kind of infrared lenses with wavelength 10.6 mu m was designed and produced for CO2 laser material processing. This refractive-diffractive lens (RDL) converts a CO2 laser beam into the rectangular shape with light intensity distribution in the concave shape at x-direction. A method which employs input aperture division and geometrical transformation technique for obtaining a better initial phase distribution of the iteration is presented. The experimental results show that the desired shape of the output light beam was obtained with a high efficiency in energy utilization.

A refractive astigmatic lens is employed to generate a focus error signal (FES) for servo control in general optical pickup. In this paper, a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed to implement optical functions of astigmatic focusing for a MEMS-based miniature optical pickup at 650nm wavelength. We present a diffractive astigmatic lens with its internal zones and external zones quantized into four, two phase levels, respectively based on fabrication consideration. The optical simulation based on scalar diffraction theory shows the efficiency of this quantized lens for astigmatic focusing and a comparison of the FES in the optical pickup system has been plotted.

Demand for High NA objective lenses with diffraction limited image quality is growing. This demand translates in design more complex optical system with many optical components. In order to optimize the most favorable arrangement of optical components new design methodology based on functional separation lens group in high numerical aperture (NA) objective was developed. For this purpose, all lens components were divided on the three-lens group: front group, middle group and output lens group. The front lens group includes front lens (thick meniscus for dry type of objective or thick piano-convex lens for immersion objective) and several a planatic shape meniscus lenses. The middle lens group consists of several cemented lens components (doublets or triplets) and output lens group includes "Double Gauss" lens system or combination of cemented doublet with one or two singlet lenses. The total number of lenses in such types of optical system can reach 15-16 or even more. design an optimal composition (optical components arrangement) for high numerical aperture objective lens will be discussed. Quantitative related parameter for optimal objective lens component's structure will be proposed.

New catadioptric objectives have been developed with large bandwidths in the DUV, high numerical apertures (NAs), and small size. This can be achieved using a single glass material. designs are specifically optimized for loose alignment tolerances and ease of manufacturability. Applications include broad band DUV imaging and high resolution immersion imaging for industrial microscopy and life sciences.

We provide analytic formulas for fews aspheric terms either plano-convex or convex-plano aspheric lenses. These formulas are obtained considering an expansion in Taylor's series from exact caustic equation produced by aspheric lenses. A comparison between our method and numerical methods of design are presented, showing a well agreement in order to reduce the spherical aberration.
