Two opticaldesigns for marine beacon based on Direct In-line Package (DIP) LED is proposed and demonstrated. The luminous intensity of the marine beacon using DIP LED can achieve to the IALA recommendation's requirement of 5 nautical miles. The measurement of color coordinates can also fit the IALA recommendation's requirement. By the surface-structured TIR lens, we successfully keep the divergence angle to 68 degrees in the horizontal direction and converge to 8 degrees in the vertical direction.

We propose a novel method to correct the spherical and coma aberration using a hybrid element (refractive-diffractive). The refractive surface is used to correct the coma, we obtain this condition curving the second principal plane and centred it on the axial point image. The diffractive element is used to correct the spherical aberration using an exact ray trace and the diffractive coefficients as variables. The optimization routine is no required. This method can be used for any conjugates position.

Over the past twenty years numerous papers and patents have reported on the design of infrared zoom lenses for a variety of civilian and military applications. The vast majority of these lenses have been afocal 8-12 mu m zoom lenses with magnification ratios of five to twenty. With the advancement of 3-5 mu m staring focal plane array technology a growing demand has emerged for a compact imaging 3-5 mu m zoom lens. To meet this demand a variety of such zoom lenses have been designed which support image formats of over 10 mm diagonal. In this paper the preliminary design of a high magnification 3-5 mu m zoom lens is described. Infrared system modeling, detailed lens performance and manufacturing issues are reviewed.

This paper measures vignetting and consequent shading for a typical micro lensed CCD chip. We present a purely mechanical means of producing highly concentric spherical lenses at the endfaces of optical fibers. The production process has two stages. First, conical lenses are produced in a grinding process that ensures excellent concentricity. Then, the conical lenses are transformed to spherical lenses using a novel process called loose abrasive blasting. The cone grinding is carried out on a microgrinding machine, which has a sophisticated control system that enables the production of precision conical lenses. The blasting is carried out on a diamond blasting machine. Plots showing automatic centering performance of the microgrinding machine and scanning electron microscopy images of the conical and spherical lenses are presented. Reliable fabrication and assembly of high-quality electro-optical imaging systems is a critical challenge facing electro-optical imaging system manufacturers. optical compensation is one standard approach for minimizing the effects of errors introduced during the manufacture and construction of the optical subsystems. We describe how digital image processing should be considered as a form of compensation when evaluating a complete imaging system. We describe a novel method for digital-optical compensation which jointly adjusts both optical parameters and image processing parameters to maximize end-to-end imaging performance. We verify the superiority of this joint compensation strategy over the traditional sequential compensation through several example imaging systems.

Determination of the initial configuration of the variable and the compensate groups are discussed according to the mechanism compensate curves. The compensate group is determined with positive power. Its focal length changes during a large scope, which is from 300mm to 100mm. And the corresponding F number variables from 3.75 to 1.25. So the residual aberration needs to be carefully corrected. The optimized zoom lens is composed of four group elements, and its performance reaches diffraction limited at each focal position.

It's known that processing conditions affect properties of final parts. Often the processing conditions are optimized for best mechanical properties, while their effect on optical properties is sidelined. In this study, the effect of injection molding processing conditions on optical properties of polyetherimide resin is discussed.
