The structural influence coefficients for an imaging optical system map the decenter and tilt motions of the system elements to changes in the direction and orientation of the line-of-sight and image. A methodology is presented to calculate the structural influence coefficients for the lenses of long-focus (near-infinity) imaging optical systems. Single-lens systems are considered first, with the method then extended to handle multiple elements. Use of an arbitrary structural reference frame is discussed, along with an algorithmic, recursive approach to numerical calculation of the structural influence coefficients. A complete derivation is presented at each step, and an overview of the geometric optical principles involved is provided for reference. The method described allows ready calculation of influence coefficients without tedious ray-trace perturbations or dedicated optical analysis software. This paper is a companion to a previous paper by the authors, in which the structural influence coefficients for plane-mirror systems are derived. The influence coefficient method of both papers is unique in its use of line-of-sight reference frames as an optical kinematic tool to track pointing direction and image orientation.

In this paper a well-known approach is used for calculation of off-axis three-mirror telescope. It includes usage of conic cross-sections properties, each of the sections forming a stigmatic image. To create a compact optical system, a flat mirror aberration corrector is introduced, which is at later stage transformed into a free-form surface in order to compensate field aberrations. Similarly, one can introduce such a corrector in finalized layout for its further optimization and getting a suitable form, including the conversion of multimirrors axial optical system into decentered one. As an example, off-axial Gregory telescope embodiment is used for infrared waveband region, due to the fact that, unlike the Cassegrain telescope, it provides a real exit pupil, and usage of the mirror corrector brings several advantages. Firstly, this feature may be used to include cold stop or adaptive mirror in the exit pupil, wherein corrector is introduced into a converging beam before the focus of the first mirror. Secondly, when placing corrector in the exit pupil of the optical system it is possible to eliminate high and low order aberrations of center point, which in turn improves optical system f-number, and minimize field aberrations. As another example, off-axial Ritchey-Chretien telescope embodiment is used as a good fit for visible region systems. Analysis and calculation results of optical systems with free-form correctors with surfaces, defined by Power polynomial series are presented in this paper. Advantages of different freeform surfaces usage depends on optical system layouts specifics.

The control systems of the miniature robots are suggested for their motion over internal surfaces inside of the small diameter tubes. The mechanical system information-measuring sensor and control systems are considered. Three versions of the mechanical systems are suggested: electromagnetic, triad wheels and conversion of rotation motion to translation one. The electromagnetic mechanism use push pull tipe method for translation motion realization. Developed schemes in the modules design of control systems were checked experimentally on the robot's prototypes. Some results of the computer simulation illustrate the multilink robot control motion along the internal diameters of the tubes. This work was fulfilled under financial support of the Russian Found of Fundamental researches N 01-01-00913 and in frames of Federal Multi Purpose Scientific and Technical Program of Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies: "Researches and developments on priority directions of science and technology", "Knowledgeable basic investigations" block, "Basic investigations at the field of physics sciences" part Mechanics.

This study aims to investigate the impact of Bulk Scattering Diffuser (BSD) on color variation in Mini-LED backlight modules under different optical parameters. To predict spectral distribution distortion of BSD in Mini-LED backlight module, a virtual Mini-LED backlight is built in the optical simulation software. The scattering behavior of BSD is also established by the calculation model based on Mie scattering theory. In simulations, the corresponding color coordinate of distorted spectrum is moved in the CIE 1931 color space owing to varying parameters of BSD. Finally, under the condition of highly color uniformity, through the comparison between the color coordinates and the MacAdam ellipse, the suitable manufacturing parameters of BSD are discussed.

The possibility of building a spectrometer based on a flat two-dimensional (crossed) grating is being considered. The most suitable layout for this is the Czerny-Turner, where a spectral image lies in the plane. In this paper an attempt to compensate for the transverse aberrations is made by using a diffraction grating with variable spacing grooves in both sections and aspheric mirror elements of layout, including ones having a freeform surface. Using crossed grating greatly simplifies the device layout and may be particularly effective when used in the ultraviolet and infrared regions of the spectrum, due to a small choice of transmissive materials for manufacturing spectral prisms. This paper gives examples of such case.

Urine test strips aid in prompt health assessment through color changes, but visual interpretation can be misleading, particularly with strips having multiple functions. To tackle this, some companies and studies have created paper strip analyzers using CMOS sensors. However, issues like ambient light and shooting angles often cause detection failures. Therefore, this study proposes integrating a multi-channel color sensor as the core component of a urine test strip analysis system and optical waveguide technology for optical system design architecture. This design aims to capture more color information in urine, and the optical waveguide technology ensures uniform light guidance, providing real-time transmission and high-quality signal data for urine analysis systems.

In this paper, we present an optical design of a near-infrared (at FeI 15648.5 Angstrom) birefringent filter system which is used to obtain the chromatic images of the sun and measure the solar magnetic field at the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO). This system consists of a prefilter, a liquid crystal analyzer, a wavelength-tunable birefringent filter and a Fabry-Perot Etalon. This system is expected to achieve a clean narrow pass band (1/8 Angstrom). It can also be tuned across the spectral line to obtain line profiles of two-dimensional fields of view. During the design of the tunable near-IR birefringent filter and the test of its components, we found the value of birefringence index mu (n(e) - n(o)) of calcite at spectral range near 15648.5 Angstrom is very different from the value in literature(1). Because the birefringence index is important for the design of birefringent optical components, the birefringence index of calcite and its thermal coefficient are measured. Some test results of the four pairs of calcite prate used in the birefringent filter are presented.

optical system design is undergoing a transformational change with the increases in computational horsepower, cutting-edge algorithmic developments, and the advent of new nanofabrication technologies. Among the most exciting advances in recent memory are optical metasurfaces, which are patterned surfaces commonly realized through nanofabrication that can imbue optical engineers with expanded degrees of design freedom due to their ability to exploit the generalized form of Snell's law. Through intelligent optimization and design, metasurfaces can be constructed which achieve arbitrary chromatic dispersion behaviors and unprecedented control over polarization that simply cannot be realized with conventional optical elements. However, designing high-performance metasurfaces requires the use of full-wave simulation tools and numerical optimization techniques which necessitate considerable computational resources. Moreover, while optical metasurfaces are moving towards millimeter and centimeter scale diameter lenses with advances in nanofabrication techniques, it is computationally infeasible to employ full-wave simulation tools directly to model optical systems that use such large size elements. Nevertheless, the size, weight, and power (SWaP) advantages afforded by optical metasurfaces make them a compelling choice for designers to consider in a number of applications, which are currently limited by bulky conventional optical solutions. Therefore, techniques that can rapidly model metasurfaces in conjunction with conventional optical elements such as lenses, mirrors, and prisms are highly desirable. In this presentation, we highlight a toolkit of custom solvers, design procedures, and powerful optimization algorithms that simplify and accelerate the development of hybrid optical systems with arbitrary combinations of conventional and metasurface elements.

Dual-band and wide-band lenses covering both the MWIR and LWIR spectral bands are increasingly needed as dual-band MWIR/LWIR detectors have become prevalent and broadband applications have expanded. currently in dual-band /wide-band applications, the use of more than three elements per lens group and the use of chalcogenide glass is common. This results in expensive systems. Also, many chalcogenides are available only in small diameters, which is a problem for large aperture broadband lenses. In this paper an investigation of cost-effective designs for dual-band MWIR/LWIR lens using only widely available IR materials, specifically Ge, ZnSe and ZnS were performed. An athermalized dual-band MWIR/LWIR using these three materials is presented. The performance analysis of this lens shows that this design form with these three common IR materials works well in certain applications. The required large size blanks of these materials can be easily obtained. Traditional chromatic aberration correction without diffraction for either wide-band or dual-band application was employed. In addition, the methods of harmonic diffraction for dual-band applications, especially with one narrow band, were used for two different presented designs.

FORMOSAT-5 is the first space program that National Space Organization (NSPO) takes full responsibility for the complete satellite system engineering design including payload(s). FORMOSAT-5 will operate in a sun synchronous orbit at 720-km altitude with 98.28-degree inclination angle. The optical Remote Sensing Instrument (RSI) can provide 2-m resolution panchromatic and 4-m resolution multi-spectral images. A Cassegrain type of RSI with two reflective aspheric mirrors and spherical corrector lens is designed. The space thermal environment is one of the important factors that affect the image quality of a space optical RSI. Thermal deformation of RSI structure and mirrors will impact the optical performance. Some preliminary thermal and opto-mechanical analyses are conducted. The relationship among temperature distributions, thermal deformations and image degradation of on-orbit behaviors are discussed. The thermal induced instabilities are incorporated in optical models (e.g., OSLO) by use of Zernike polynomial coefficients to calculate the system MTF and WFE. Due to different thermal environments, on-orbit optical performances depend on imaging locations. Detailed studies and discussions are done in this paper to identify the major sources of thermal deformations and their impacts on image quality.
