Recent advances in DNA sequencing techniques require the development of high NA immersion microscope systems with large field-of-view, increased resolution and very tight distortion correction. This paper discusses the optical design and tolerance analysis of a NA 1.0 immersion microscope system with a field of view over 1 mm, which is to be used for four-color fluorescence spectroscopy. The microscope system includes an immersion objective lens and four tube lenses, and is corrected for a wide wavelength range from 490 nm to 712 nm. We will discuss critical aspects of designing this kind of optical system, including special glass selection required for chromatic correction.

The paper presents a new processing method for design and fabrication of microlens by microfluidic deposition, in which the lenses can be formed on the media with high precise location in the fabrication process. First we may apply physical vaporization deposition (PVD) or spin coating to fabricate a thin film;secondly, the hydrophilic pattern specified by the mask of lenses can be created by photolithography, where the special lens media is made herein. Finally, the liquid solution of lens material is deposited onto the predetermined location of the lens media by the drop-on-demand fluidic actuator;thus, the microlenses are consequently formed after the complete evaporation of solvent in the solution.

Our study presents recent progress in modelling and performing lens optical design with metasurfaces. We developed semi-analytical models that recover the output phase, polarization, dispersion and group delay of various nanostructures. This enables the mixing of different nanostructures to obtain a target dispersion profile an interesting application of the model. These models can readily be implemented within optical design software such as Zemax and use the built-in optimization of optical design processes while avoiding time-consuming electrodynamics computation. We also introduce the metasurfaces to the analytical lens design framework. This enables us to analytically compute the phase profile of freeform metasurface doublet concerning particular ray conditions such as the Abbe Sine condition as we presented here.

New catadioptric objectives have been developed with large bandwidths in the DUV, high numerical apertures (NAs), and small size. This can be achieved using a single glass material. designs are specifically optimized for loose alignment tolerances and ease of manufacturability. Applications include broad band DUV imaging and high resolution immersion imaging for industrial microscopy and life sciences.

This paper proposes a new zoom lens design with intermediate image. The two 3x zoom lenses are independently designed and then cascaded to a 9x zoom lens. The concept of intermediate optics is applied in this paper in order to minimize size of front diameter and overall length. The final layout shows the proposed 9x zoom lens can effectively miniature the front diameter of lens about 44.25%.

In this research, an optical integrated module including a liquid-filled lens, a flexible sensor membrane and a self-adjusted optical compensation component was designed. We studied the optical relationship (which is called compensation function) between the liquid-filled lens and the sensor membrane to make the system has good optical characters. According to compensation function, this module compensates the optical character between lens and sensor membrane to obtain a clear image by adjusting the internal pressure and volume of the liquid in the liquid filled optical system. For a single lens optical system, the curvy sensor membrane has better performance than flat type sensor in off optical axis due to Petzval surface is curved. An optical experiment was set up to measure the performance of the module to prove the idea, and the results show that the module achieves the desired effect.

Data driven approaches have proven very efficient in many vision tasks and are now used for optical parameters optimization in application-specific camera design. A neural network is trained to estimate images or image quality indicators from the optical characteristics. The complexity and entanglement of such optical parameters raise new challenges we investigate in the case of wide-angle systems. We highlight them by establishing a data-driven prediction model of the RMS spot size from the distortion using mathematical or AI-based methods.
