This paper proposes a novel structure for the silicon avalanche photodiode. The structure uses an integrated dark pixel to offset the dark current of the avalanche photodiode, effectively reducing the output noise. The device structure is simulated by software to extract the relevant electrical and optical properties. The results show that the breakdown voltage of the avalanche photodiode is 33.6 v at 300 K, the breakdown current is less than 1×10-10 A, and the output current values under light and dark conditions at different temperatures differ by at least 5 orders of magnitude. Under 0 v bias voltage, the device exhibits the highest quantum efficiency of 35%, and it has a high response in the wavelength range of 400 ~ 800 nm, with a peak responsivity of 0.14 A/W at 540 nm. In addition, under 6.4v overbias, the avalanche probability in the light-receiving region is the same as that within the integrated dark pixel, the maximum avalanche breakdown probability reaches 83%, and the peak electric field is about 4.6×105 v/cm. © 2024 IEEE.

The creation and implementation of a system that bridges visible light communication (vLC) with selected identifiers, envisioned as informational beacons, are outlined. This system is adept at controlling LED panels and orchestrating communication between LED lights and the receiving unit, laying the groundwork for vehicle-to-vehicle (v2v) communication systems tailored for precise positioning. The design and assessment of test-bed requirements cater to the anticipation of future v2v optical wireless communication scenarios. Through analysis, it is demonstrated that commercial outdoor lighting can be effectively utilized for v2v positioning, capable of operating under daylight with a data transmission rate of 100 Kbps. Crucially, the system's ability to accurately detect positioning beacons facilitates the localization of vehicles within designated areas of interest, paving the way for the advancement of v2v communication technologies. This comprehensive approach not only validates the feasibility of using vLC for vehicle positioning but also sets a precedent for future developments in v2v communication systems. © 2024 Owner/Author.

The design and implementation of Underwater Wireless optical Communication (UWOC) provide important scientific problems. UWOC has the ability to transmit data at a high pace across long distances. This essay makes an effort to concentrate on the complexity of real-world applications and unresolved problems in UWOC systems. The key developments and advancements in the subject, modelling methods, and connection design difficulties are outlined. The goal of this study is to provide recommendations for a practical and trustworthy UWOC design with enhanced performance. In the proposed study, a topical issue of modern electronics is considered - the creation of an algorithm for ensuring the stability of FSO technology against optical interference, and its solution is proposed using a photo-receiving device by optimizing the optical unit (photodiode - light filter) and creating an original design of a photo signal processing circuit that ensures the selection of a useful signal of a certain frequency modulation and compensation of background lighting. The created pair of optical filter - photodiode provides pulsed current monochromatic sensitivity of the photodiode at the level of 0.26 A/W at a wavelength of 980 nm and practically zero sensitivity at wavelengths shorter than 920 nm. The PRD design selects the useful signal in the frequency range of 3 kHz - 2 MHz and suppresses the frequencies of the background signal in the low frequency range from the constant component to 3 kHz. It compensates the background current up to 15 mA, which is equivalent to the power of light interference up to 15 mW. Further research should answer the questions regarding the reliability of the proposed PRD design and the optimization of its optical system. Photodetectors, which convert optical signals into electrical signals, are critical components in integrated silicon photonic platforms. This paper introduces a high-performance Ge/Si lateral photodetector design with dual-port incidence and confinement trenches on both sides. Compared to one-port incidence, the dual-port design significantly improves the light field and the distribution of photogenerated carriers in the Ge region. The confinement trenches in the Si layer on both sides of the Ge focus light more effectively into the Ge region, enhancing absorption efficiency and boosting responsivity. Following optoelectronic co-optimization, the 64-PD array, fabricated through MPW service, demonstrates high performance: dark current below 3 nA, O-band responsivity above 0.92 A/W, and small-signal bandwidth over 34 GHz at 3 v bias. The large-signal eye diagram test achieves a rate above 36 Gbps, limited by the 40 Gbps test system. The PD array exhibits consistent performance, making it highly suitable for applications in optical interconnects and optical computing. © 2025 SPIE.

Several off-the-shelf optical lenses and lens components are available for use in the design of new optical systems. But there isn't a clear methodology on how effective there can be in a real optical device. It should be noted that the use of standard optical elements reduces the cost of the optical device, which is especially important for mass production. Ease and speed of replacement are also important parameters for the usability of standard optical elements. That is why the extensive use of purchased optical elements in optical devices will simplify their operation and improve the convenience of maintenance. Selecting purchased optical components of an optical circuit is not an easy task and requires certain skills. The main problem is that the optical design stage is divided into two parts. The first part is the creation of an optical circuit from non-standard (custom) optical components with optical characteristics close to cataloging lenses. The second part is to adjust the position of the optical component to satisfy specification requirements. This process sometimes required several iterations. For the process of fitting distances in an optical system to be successful, it is necessary to take into account the properties of optical glasses such as refractive index and dispersion when choosing lens components, in addition to their focal lengths and geometrical dimensions. It should be noted that in the catalogs of optical components there are optical parameters of lenses, and also glass parameters of the lens. This is essential information for lens designers to substitution the custom optical element for the off-the-shelf lens. Problems that arise with such a replacement are based on a limited number of standard lenses and lens components. In Europe, most countries are facing common healthcare challenges that lead to a need for innovation, effectiveness and efficiency in the healthcare systems. This is often addressed through actions and intentions including enhanced primary and integrated care. However, these developments seem to be progressing slowly and non-uniformly, nor is there knowledge exchange, and the full implications of these changes on healthcare design are still unfolding. The research presented investigates what are the current trends in healthcare systems and the effects on design transformations, focusing on the Swedish experience. In Sweden, a reform known as "Nära vård" [Close Care], aims to "reconstruct" the core of the healthcare service around primary care. It strives to bring care "closer" to people and communities concerning access to both care and the facilities where it is delivered. The objective of this paper is to understand what can be learnt from the Swedish experience;the research presented aims at investigating the effects of the Close Care reform on primary care facilities design. The study was conducted from April to July 2023, and it consisted of: i) desk research and literature review;ii) data collection through 12 interviews with experts;iii) data analysis through qualitative content analysis;iv) study visits to local care facilities. From the interviews, 10 factors for change and 9 challenges emerged. Moreover, it appears that the organisational structure of the Swedish healthcare system caters for regional and individual projects’ interpretations of how to bring care "closer" to the patients;this variation allows for a broader understanding of the advantages and drawbacks of each organisational model and design, and it reinforces the idea that there is no "one-size-fits-all" for close care. This diversity points to a need for a project evaluation program of the ongoing experiences, aimed at assessing the performance and effectiveness of each approach. © 2024 The

In optical design, the designer's experience is critical. Indeed, an experienced optical designer will often choose a better starting point for optimization than an inexperienced one. Most of the time, lens design software use a local optimization algorithm, which is why the starting point is so important to get an excellent optical system. We present here an alternative to the classical optical design method and a solution to reduce the impact of the designer's experience. Our alternative couples the Simultaneous Multiple Surfaces (SMS) method, introduced by Benitez and Minano with optimization in Zemax OpticStudio. The SMS method is a direct construction method of optical systems without optical aberrations for as many field points as the system contains surfaces. This method can deal with both aspheric and freeform optical systems depending on the dimension of the method implemented. Our implementation of the SMS method can design optical systems with three surfaces. We use the SMS method to define a freeform system with an F-number of 0.85. Then, we use this fast freeform system as a starting point to perform further optimization in Zemax OpticStudio. Finally, we achieve to design two diffraction-limited freeform systems, one over a square field of view of +/- 30 degrees and another over a rectangular field of view of +/- 33 degrees x +/- 26 degrees.

Holographic display elements (HOEs) with a high diffraction efficiency and size enlargement have been developed since 2019. To achieve high brightness and low haze, unprecedented optical systems have been proposed with a uniform chief ray angle of 0 degrees in the x-section and 70 degrees in the y-section of the HOEs. A 360 degrees cylindrical holographic screen display (CHSD) was obtained by providing a large tilt to the surface shape near the optical axis. This was done using a first-order odd aspherical coefficient for the light flux from a refractive optical system (RO). A flat holographic screen display (FHSD) is a compact, high-performance display that uses three decentered and tilted freeform mirrors to route light flux from the RO in a ball-like form. Prototyping also proposes the possibility of an augmented reality system that takes advantage of the high transparency. The design for further miniaturization while maintaining optical performance was also discussed, in which the size of the first mirror was reduced by reducing the half-field angle of the RO to approximately 6 degrees. Furthermore, by increasing the negative power of the second mirror, the small size could be maintained The size of the last mirror was dependent on the screen size and could not be reduced. By laying down the posture of this mirror, we were able to halve the size reduction in the vertical direction. In this paper, lens designs for CHSDs and FHSDs are reported. The potential of this display is also discussed.

The 0.18 um CMOS process is used to develop a high-precision power-adjustable LED driver circuit for the hardware circuit of a fluorescent fiber-optic temperature sensor. The driver circuit uses the microcontroller system's vDAC conversion output voltage to create a controlled constant-current source, and it is based on the operational amplifier to create the topology of current series negative feedback. The conversion output voltage vDAC is adaptively adjusted to display the fluorescent signal produced by the fluorescent material excited by the LED driver circuit, correctly. The accurate temperature value can be output by the sensor. This circuit has finished the tape out and testing. The findings indicate that the output current may attain a current regulation range of 12 mA under various supply voltage changes, with vDAC varying from 0 to 3.3 v. The output current is barely impacted by temperature, and the change in output current with vDAC at various temperatures is investigated at 4.5 v supply voltage. The circuit shutdown time at 20 Hz frequency is 21.35 us. Good circuit performance makes it suitable for use in fluorescent fiber-optic temperature sensors. © 2024 SPIE.
