The design of the rigid contact lens (CL) with slope-constrained Q-type aspheres for myopia correction is presented in this paper. The spherical CL is the most common type for myopia correction, however the spherical aberration (SA) caused from the pupil dilation in dark leads to the degradation of visual acuity which cannot be corrected by spherical surface. The spherical and aspheric CLs are designed respectively based on Liou's schematic eye model, and the criterion is the modulation transfer function (MTF) at the frequency of 100 line pair per mm, which corresponds to the normal vision of one arc-minute. After optimization, the MTF of the aspheric design is superior to that of the spherical design, because the aspheric surface corrects the SA for improving the visual acuity in dark. For avoiding the scratch caused from the contact profilometer, the aspheric surface is designed to match the measurability of the interferometer. The Q-type aspheric surface is employed to constrain the root-mean-square (rms) slope of the departure from a best-fit sphere directly, because the fringe density is limited by the interferometer. The maximum sag departure from a best-fit sphere is also controlled according to the measurability of the aspheric stitching interferometer (ASI). The inflection point is removed during optimization for measurability and appearance. In this study, the aspheric CL is successfully designed with Q-type aspheres for the measurability of the interferometer. It not only corrects the myopia but also eliminates the SA for improving the visual acuity in dark based on the schematic eye model.

CMOS image sensors are generally considered as being particularly suited to the harsh space environment, if they can get their performance up to the CCD levels. Recent developments indicate however that this object can be achieved. This paper presents the current state of the art in CMOS Active Pixel Sensors (APS) for space applications at Fillfactory and also highlights some commercial and industrial development that can be of interest for the space community. © 2000 ESA and CNES.

This article deals with developing of Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer interfaces and model based approach to mathematical modeling process of an unmanned air vehicle flight control system. Application of modern model-based technologies for critical onboard systems development is considered. The program for unmanned air vehicle -automatic flight control system control loop simulation and visualization is developed. Use of the proposed approach allows to facilitate unmanned air vehicle onboard systems software engineering, analyze and certification process. The article concludes with a status of current research activities on the topic and a summary of the benefits provided by this approach for developing Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer interfaces for unmanned air vehicle automatic flight control system.

A multi-band pass filter array was proposed and designed for short wave infrared applications. The central wavelength of the multi-band pass filters are located about 905 nm, 950 nm, 1055 nm and 1550 nm. In the simulation of an optical interference band pass filter, high spectrum performance (high transmittance ratio between the pass band and stop band) relies on (1) the index gap between the selected high/low-index film materials, with a larger gap correlated to higher performance, and (2) sufficient repeated periods of high/low-index thin-film layers. When determining high and low refractive index materials, spectrum performance was improved by increasing repeated periods. Consequently, the total film thickness increases rapidly. In some cases, a thick total film thickness is difficult to process in practice, especially when incorporating photolithography liftoff. Actually the maximal thickness of the photoresist being able to liftoff will bound the total film thickness of the band pass filter. For the application of the short wave infrared with the wavelength range from 900nm to 1700nm, silicone was chosen as a high refractive index material. Different from other dielectric materials used in the visible range, silicone has a higher absorptance in the visible range opposite to higher transmission in the short wave infrared. In other words, designing band pass filters based on silicone as a high refractive index material film could not obtain a better spectrum performance than conventional high index materials like TiO2 or Ta2O5, but also its material cost would reduce about half compared to the total film thickness with the conventional material TiO2. Through the simulation and several experimental trials, the total film thickness below 4 um was practicable and reasonable. Advancement in the vLSI industry has brought out the drastic demand for numerous electronic devices such as mobiles, notepads, and computers etc. Its long charging cables create an inconvenience for the users. To replace such cables, an elegant wireless charging technique has been introduced to the current electronic industry. In this paper, a universal wireless charging system (UWCS) is designed, in which two segmented coils are connected series in fashion by means of electronic switches. The UWCS, on the whole, is suitable for laptop application and a small part of its design is used for the mobile application. As per the load requirement, the switching conditions of UWCS gets automatically changes. In UWCS, misalignment is the recurrently occurring dispute which diminishes the coupling factor between transmitter and receiver pads. In such systems, selection of proper coil structure is the preliminary significant part of its design. In this paper, several coil structures are chosen and simulated under various misalignment cases. The misalignment's effect and the shape of coil structure on various parameters of the wireless charging system are detailed in the paper. In addition, the variation of magnetic fields between transmitter and receiver pads for distinct misalignment cases are observed and analyzed in this paper. Thus, this paper provides the better coil-structure for a feasible UWC system for mobile and laptop applications.

The imaging spectroscopy is a very powerful tool for the Remote Sensing of the Solar Planets and, in particular, of the Earth. This technique permits to get not only the geometrical information but also the spectral information of the scenario under observation. The number of potential data-products obtainable in this way could be very high, useful and of benefit in several fields of Earth Observation. If these are the advantages on the other side the new dimension will increase the number of data by the number of spectral band, and for this it will increase the technical requirements, mainly, on the Instrument optical design, Focal Plane Array, Storage/Compressor Data Unit, Data Transmission etc. The instruments able to produce 3-dimensional data (cube image) are the imaging spectrometers, which depending on the way how the spectral contents is obtained, can be divided in two main categories: •The Fourier Imaging spectrometers •The Dispersing Imaging spectrometers Each one of the above categories of spectrometers has advantages and disadvantages and a choice between the two types can be made only performing a trade-off with the mission requirements. The Italian Space Agency (ASI) from long time is promoting and funding, to industrial and scientific levels, several activities covering almost all the aspects related to the imaging spectroscopy: from the applications to the instruments, from the data compressors to future hyperspectral missions. Purpose of this paper is to present the main results of the activities supported by ASI in this field with particular emphasis on the activities related to the studies and developments of new instruments. © 2017 ESA and CNES.

Oxide semiconductors are becoming a key material for future electronics because of their wide band gap, hence high transparency and low OFF current, compared with the ubiquitous silicon technologies. Besides oxides, for flexible electronics applications, organic semiconductors are gaining considerable interest due to their low-cost printing processes and mechanical flexibility. This talk will review the integration of oxides and fully printable organics for large area, including newly emerging application areas related to the Internet of Things. We will discuss the critical design considerations to show how device-circuit interactions should be handled and how compensation methods can be implemented for stable and reliable operation. In particular, the quest for low power becomes highly compelling in wearable devices. We will discuss thin-film transistor operation in the different regimes, and review device properties when operated in the deep subthreshold regime or in near-OFF state, addressing the pivotal requirement of low supply voltage and ultralow power leading to potentially battery-less *** order to minimize power consumption in oxide TFTs, the devices are operated in the deep subthreshold regime, i.e., near the OFF state, to reduce drain current that contribute to power consumption [1]. For organic TFTs, in particular, all-inkjet-printed devices, we will show that the operating voltage can also be lowered by reducing the semiconductor/dielectric interface trap density, and thus, power consumption can be further reduced [2]. The all-inkjet-printed devices exhibit a low operating voltage of 1 v, a nearly zero threshold voltage (v th ) of 0.01 v, a steep subthreshold slope of 0.069 v/decade, a high on/off ratio of 10 7 , and negligible hysteresis. By investigating the polarity of the two dielectrics, we found that a Lewis-acid monopolar dielectric could exhibit lipophilicity and hydrophobicity at the same time, which ensures printability and avoids wa

design of the oxide-confined vertical cavity surface emitting laser (vCSEL) with enhanced engineered lateral leakage of high-order transverse optical modes is studied by three-dimensional optical modeling to evaluate the robustness of the leakage selection approach with respect to thermal effects. Both Joule heat and heat generated by the free carrier absorption of the optical mode in the doped semiconductor layers and their impact on the refractive index profile are considered. We show that for typical regimes of the vCSEL design and operation absorption-induced heat exceeds by several times the Joule heat while the shape of the generated heated domains strongly differ. Modeling shows that well defined spectral separation between the transverse optical modes persists upon increase in injection current. Further, upon increase in current the lateral extension of the fundamental mode decreases and the mode shrinks towards the center of the vCSEL structure thus reducing the lateral leakage and increasing the mode lifetime, whereas similar effect for high-order transverse modes is much weaker. Thus the preferred conditions for the lasing of the fundamental mode persist and even improve upon current increase. At high currents the fundamental mode becomes favorable at all aperture diameters, also for those where the cold cavity approximation predicts preference for the excited mode lasing.

Technological developments have led to the implementation of novel digitalized manufacturing methods for the production of metallic structures in prosthetic dentistry. These technologies can be classified as based on subtractive manufacturing, assisted by computeraided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems, or on additive manufacturing (AM), such as the recently developed laser-based methods. The aim of the study was to assess the surface texture and hardness of metallic structures for dental restorations obtained by alternative technologies: conventional casting (CST), computerized milling (MIL), AM power bed fusion methods, respective selective laser melting (SLM) and selective laser sintering (SLS). For the experimental analyses metallic specimens made of Co-Cr dental alloys were prepared as indicated by the manufacturers. The specimen structure at the macro level was observed by an optical microscope and micro-hardness was measured in all substrates. Metallic frameworks obtained by AM are characterized by increased hardness, depending also on the surface processing. The formation of microstructural defects can be better controlled and avoided during SLM and MIL process. Application of power bed fusion techniques, like SLS and SLM, is currently a challenge in dental alloys processing.

We present a new design for an isolated power converter using optical power transducer (OPT) technology. The converter transmits optical power from a laser diode (LD) to a phototransducer (PT) across an air gap. The PT device consists of 12 GaAs pn junctions, each current-matched to achieve a record optical-to-electrical power conversion efficiency of >= 66% with an open-circuit voltage of 14.5 v. Using a LD with 840 nm wavelength, the OPT can output more than 3.2 W of electrical power with 25% electrical-to-optical-to-electrical conversion efficiency, a value twice as efficient as a similar OPT built using previous generation PT technology. This new prototype successfully provides the driving power to the gate driver for 75 kv/mu s fast switching of a SiC-MOSFET, made possible by a low stray input-to-output capacitance of <= 1 pF. We measure a 70% reduction in conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) compared to a conventional transformer-based isolated power supply.
