Towards sustainable cultural landscape: A challenge in developing ecomuseum in Minahasa Region

Recently, numbers of ecomuseums are developed around the world, particularly in Europe and Asia. Notably in Indonesia, ecomuseums are provided in various forms, covering large areas to small areas, and isolated sites in order to reach sustainable cultural landscape. This by means protecting the natural resources and cultural heritage. Minahasa region has considerable potential to develop ecomuseum model, encouraging community's local sustainable development. The purpose of this paper is analyzing the potential aspects of ecomuseums in selected rural villages in Minahasa, include; Leilem, Pulutan, Watumea and Kayu Uwi, as case studies. current development at these villages are evaluated by comparing the local community involvement with the basic principles of ecomuseum concepts, by exploring local community involvement. A qualitative methods was carried out, such in-depth survey between April and September 2017. Field observations include several activities; documentation, also interviewing local participants for their persepective on the ecomuseum developments. In order to reach sustainable landscape development in the region, Ecomuseum is also pivotal and practical model as functional tools for protecting the cultural heritage and developing of local areas. This research proves that Minahasa has got many cultural heritage sources, which are using productively for local sustainable development. The villages are samples of natural and cultural heritage areas of Minahasa for a sustainable cultural landscape development in the region.

GaAs phototransducers with 5 to 12 p/n junctions are shown to demonstrate breakthrough performance in optical conversion efficiency ranging from 65% to just under 70%. In particular, for a current-matched 12 junction device we have recorded an efficiency of 66.5% at voc = 14.46v (open circuit voltage) with an approximately 650 suns / 841 nm monochromatic source. Our simulations reproduce the Pv characteristics of the physical devices with good (∼ %) accuracy for voc and Isc (short circuit current), which allows us to numerically study the influence of experimental conditions and design factors on device performance. Moreover, our simulations suggest that measured efficiencies are very close to the theoretical limits of the heterostructures under consideration. Our focus in these proceedings is twofold: a) to present an overview of the results of these experiments as well as b) study the factors which limit simulated device performance with the objective of attaining monochromatic conversions efficiencies exceeding 70%. © 2016 IEEE.

Low vision indicates a visual acuity of less than 6/18 but better than 3/60 or / and field of vision reduced to 20° or less. As per the report published in journal of ophthalmology, every five seconds one person in our world goes blind; every minute, one child goes blind. As per Indian Council of Medical Research, India has more than 40 million persons with visual impairments of serious nature. Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of Low vision, followed by diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. A variety of other conditions such as in-operable or pre-operative cataracts and other hereditary diseases can also cause impaired vision. Most of these visual impairments cannot be corrected by surgical means, nor by conventional spectacles. Hence, it is vital to develop dedicated visual Aids for Near vision & Distance vision to enable the person with low vision to perform their daily tasks independently. In current work light weight, tele-microscopes are developed by direct removal of material by ultra-precision machining method. This device employs plastic aspheric lenses in plano-convex and plano-concave configuration mounted in a lightweight housing with a power accommodation of +2 Dioptre. Plastic aspheric lenses are fabricated by single point diamond turning (SPDT) machine. Developed visual aids have controlled profile to improve the vision quality. The mechanical housing design provides flexibility to use the device in dual configuration i.e. hand-held and spectacle frame mounted.

An integrated current sensing circuit with incorporated comparator function is presented. The current scaling is done in two independent steps, therefore very high current division ratio is obtained, which makes this circuit suitable for converters with large output currents. The additional comparator part eliminates the need for a separate comparator circuit, therefore reduces the design effort and complexity. The current sensing accuracy is in the range from 91.1% up to 99.6% for a wide range of output currents. Also, a high precision of the sensed current and a stable duty ratio of the converter for a wide range of temperatures and in process corner simulations are achieved. The complete buck converter is designed in 0.18 μm 50 v high-voltage (Hv) CMOS technology. © 2016 IEEE.

We present the handheld scanning probes that we have recently developed in our current project for biomedical imaging in general and for optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in particular. OCT is an established, but dynamic imagistic technique based on laser interferometry, which offers micrometer resolutions and millimeters penetration depths. With regard to existing devices, the newly developed handheld probes are simple, light and relatively low cost. Their design is described in detail to allow for the reproduction in any lab, including for educational purposes. Two probes are constructed almost entirely from off-the-shelf components, while a third, final variant is constructed with dedicated components, in an ergonomic design. The handheld probes have uni-dimensional (1D) galvanometer scanners therefore they achieve transversal sections through the biological sample investigated - in contrast to handheld probes equipped with bi-dimensional (2D) scanners that can also achieve volumetric (3D) reconstructions of the samples. These latter handheld probes are therefore also discussed, as well as the possibility to equip them with galvanometer 2D scanners or with Risley prisms. For galvanometer scanners the optimal scanning functions studied in a series of previous works are pointed out;these functions offer a higher temporal efficiency/duty cycle of the scanning process, as well as artifact-free OCT images. The testing of the handheld scanning probes in dental applications is presented, for metal ceramic prosthesis and for teeth.

Trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) are widely used for optical sensing applications (precision instrumentation) and optical communication, such as: fiber optic, IR communication and also visible Light Communication (vLC). TIA convert the current (I) into voltage (v). Application TIA design depend of objectives requirement system, for high speed as well as high-band, low noise, low power and others. This paper explains the empirical experiment of TIA for high-band vLC with over 1-MHz Gain Bandwidth Product (GPWP) estimated. We implement general topology mode: as photovoltaic. The selection of the best resistor feedback (Rf) and compensator (Cf) are presented, we compare simulation approach against real implementation. The OP-AMP chosen from Texas Instruments® product, OPA 656. The TINA™ SPICE® simulator used as simulation's tool. This research contribution lies in applied of engineering design methodology with detailed step to develop major vLC system, we focus on photodiode amplifier only. By depth analysis, can be known next research addresses and obtain the best results without trial and error methods. © 2016 IEEE.

TAIPAN will conduct a stellar and galaxy survey of the Southern sky. The TAIPAN positioner is being developed as a prototype for the MANIFEST instrument on the GMT. The design for TAIPAN incorporates 150 optical fibres (with an upgrade path to 300) situated within independently controlled robotic positioners known as Starbugs. Starbugs allow precise parallel positioning of individual fibres, thus significantly reducing instrument configuration time and increasing the amount of observing time. Presented is an engineering overview of the UKST upgrade of the completely new Instrument Spider Assembly utilized to support the Starbug Fibre Positioning Robot and current status of the Starbug itself.

CHEOPS (CHaracterizing ExOPlanets Satellite) is the first ESA Small Mission as part of the ESA Cosmic vision program 2015-2025. The mission was formally adopted in early February 2014 with a planned launch readiness end of 2017. The mission lead is performed in a partnership between Switzerland, led by the University of Bern, and the European Space Agency with important contributions from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The mission is dedicated to searching for exoplanetary transits by performing ultrahigh precision photometry on bright starts already known to host planets whose mass has been already estimated through ground based observations. The instrument is an optical Ritchey-Chretien telescope of 30 cm clear aperture using a single CCD detector. The optical system is designed to image a de-focused PSF onto the focal plane with very stringent stability and straylight rejection requirements providing a Fov of 0.32 degrees full cone. The system design is adapted to meet the top-level science requirements, which ask for a photometric precision of 20ppm, in 6 hours integration time, on transit measurements of G5 dwarf stars with v-band magnitudes in the range 6 <= v <= 9 mag. Additionally they ask for a photometric precision of 85 ppm in 3 hours integration time of Neptune-size planets transiting K-type dwarf stars with v-band magnitudes as faint as v=12 mag. Given the demanding schedule and cost constrains, the mission relies mostly on components with flight heritage for the platform as well as for the payload components. Nevertheless, several new developments are integrated into the design as for example the telescope structure and the very low noise, high stability CCD front end electronics. The instrument and mission have gone through critical design review in fall 2015 / spring 2016. This paper describes the current instrument and mission design with a focus on the instrument. The Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer is designed to be the largest non-ELT optical/NIR astronomical telescope, and will be a fully dedicated facility for multi-object spectroscopy over a broad range of spectral resolutions. The MSE design has progressed from feasibility concept into its current baseline design where the system configuration of main systems such as telescope, enclosure, summit facilities and instrument are fully defined. This paper will describe the engineering development of the main systems, and discuss the trade studies to determine the optimal telescope and multiplexing designs and how their findings are incorporated in the current baseline design.

The electronics of AGATA HPGe segmented gamma ray detector faces a new challenge in the search of a bigger integration and cost reduction for the phase 2 of the experiment going beyond 45 crystals. This opportunity can be used to introduce a new architecture based on commercial standards while keeping backward compatibility with current electronics. In this sense, new FPGA devices and fast Ethernet links can be used to ease the preprocessing and control task and allowing for processor farms to distribute the processing load. At the same time, modularity should be a key feature of the design in the aim to make it upgradable in time and technology. This paper presents the design of a new preprocessing and control board that could fulfill with the experiment requirements having in mind that it should not be only a new system but also should serve as replacement of the current electronics. The design is intended to process the data coming from 3 crystals (114 channels) in the same board, with a total aggregate bandwidth of 216 Gpbs using 2 Gbps input optical fiber links in SNAP12 format and with a data readout done through Ethernet fiber optics. It is expected that, with this new system, the level of integration will raise up to 3 times while cost will scale down a 30% with respect to the current electronics. © 2016 IEEE.
