This paper presents a design and a post layout simulation of a high-sensitivity low-power transimpedance amplifier (TIA) for frequency domain near infrared spectroscopy (FD-NIRS). The TIA consumes 340 μW from a 1.2 v DC supply. This low power is necessary for NIRS device portability. The proposed TIA achieves 104.8 dBΩ transimpedance gain, 50 MHz bandwidth and 15.1 nA rms total integrated input noise current for 2 pF off chip photodiode capacitance. The demonstrated TIA is simulated using 130 nm CMOS technology and occupies an area of 0.0012 mm 2 . Post amplifier stage is presented to increase the total gain. The complete NIRS optical receiver achieves 119.5 dBΩ gain, 49.2 MHz bandwidth, 15.4 nA rms total integrated input noise current and consumes 400 μW from a 1.2 v DC supply.

This paper presents the design and post layout simulation of a high dynamic-rang and low-power transimpedance amplifiers (TIA) for frequency domain near infrared spectroscopy (FD-NIRS). The proposed TIA achieves 108.3 dBΩ gain, 10 MHz bandwidth, and 5.5 nArms integrated input referred noise using a photodiode with 2 pF capacitance. The proposed TIA consumes 260 μW from a 1.2 v supply. The maximum input photocurrent is extended to 9.2 μAp-p with the adopted automatic gain control (AGC). A post amplifier with AGC is introduced after the TIA to increase the gain of the optical receiver and to maintain a good linearity. The complete optical receiver achieves 122 dBΩ gain, 9.9 MHz bandwidth, 5.9 nArms total integrated input noise current, and consumes 1.44 mW from a 1.2 v supply.

This paper presents the design, manufacture and electrical characterization of novel hybrid III:v Concentrator Photovoltaic-Thermoelectric receivers. Addition of an encapsulating and spectral homogenizing single active surface secondary optic lens increased the solar cell electrical power output from 7.66mW (ALPHA no cooling) to 18.20mW (KAPPA with TE cooling). The effective optical concentration of the optics, based on short circuit current, was x2.4. A linear irradiance vs maximum power receiver output relationship was observed (R2=0.9978), confirming good optical alignment during manufacture and likewise internal current matching of the series-connected triple-junction cell. An in-depth COMSOL model for simulated evaluation of the synergistic thermally-dependent parameters inherent to hybrid devices was built and experimentally validated.

Modern computer lighting design programs are using purely diffuse reflecting surfaces during calculations for simplification reasons. For more accurate calculations it is necessary to use real reflective properties of surfaces that can be measured by a reflectophotometer. The reflectophotometer OPTE-F3K of the Department of Electrical Power engineering, FEE CTU in Prague, allows measuring reflective properties of surface samples 2 by 2 cm. ReflectoSoft, an application designed especially for this reflectophotometer, enables measurements of BRDF in the Klems system of patches. The measured values can then be stored into an XML file containing the BRDF matrix of 145 × 145 elements. The results can be viewed using the software BSDFviewer. The goal of this paper is to present the current state of the renovation of OPTE-F3K, which enables ray tracing algorithms to use measured reflective properties of real materials.

High definition and magnification rigid endoscope is a significant equipment in the examination and surgery. In this paper, the design of a high definition (HD) rigid endoscope with zero viewing direction is presented with a FOv of 70. The entrance pupil is 0.3 mm, achieved for the first time to our best knowledge. For the fabricated prototype, the theoretical resolution is 22.3 lp/mm at an object distance of 20 mm, and the depth of field (DOF) is 115 mm The performance is proved to be great for observation during diagnosis and surgery. Besides, the endoscope with non-zero viewing direction is more needful in some conditions such as observing and diagnosing lesions on inner walls of organs and tissues. In this paper, we present two designs with non-zero viewing direction for better applications.

We propose a novel receiver design for distributed MIMO systems that accounts for multiple carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) and multiple timing offsets (TOs). The proposed structure utilizes a bank of pulse matched filters (one per effective CFO) at each receive antenna, followed by an information symbol detector. Each filter in the bank is sampled at the symbol rate with sampling timing selected according to the corresponding TO. For the proposed receiver configuration, we derive the maximum likelihood (ML) detector. Our theoretical developments are illustrated through extensive simulation studies and indicate that the proposed receiver structure together with the optimal ML detection offers significant performance gains compared to the current state of the art.

An ultra-small telecentric lens with sub-millimeter thickness is proposed. This lens with 0.2 numerical aperture and high field of view is a good candidate to be used in multi-aperture super resolution imagers. Point spread function and the telecentricity of the lens is extracted numerically and measured experimentally. The ray-optics simulation results show nearly diffraction limited performance for the lens.
