Obtaining the glottal space segmentation is essential to characterize morphological disorders of vocal folds. In this study, the tested images are been acquired by direct optical inspection of the glottis using an endoscope and most of them are very poor quality. The application of motion estimation is very useful to segment the vocal folds endoscopic videos without user interaction. This approach involves three process steps: 1) Wiener motion estimator - to shift the measurement the next frame regarding to the current frame, and look for similarities between them. The best matching will accurate a shift equal to the displacement vector of the object;2) Segmentation using motion estimation results and applying Gabor filtering;3) Experimental results to demonstrate that the proposed method is effective. Our proposal works correctly with 95% of database test videos and it shows a great advance in design, and in the nearby future, a complete method to diagnose vocal folds pathologies.

This article is a literature review of current trends in industrial oil analysis. The most significant off-line (laboratory) oil analysis techniques i.e. wear metal analysis, solid debris analysis and additive analysis are presented with some application remarks. Because more real-time data is continuously required in industry to support maintenance decisions, on- and in-line oil analysis techniques are especially concentrated on in the review of current literature. Especially solid debris and other contaminant analyzers and oil condition sensors are discussed thoroughly. Certain commercial players in the industrial oil analysis field, like lubricant manufacturers, oil analysis laboratories, machine manufacturers and measurement instrument manufacturers, are handled as well. Comparison of oil analysis techniques with vibration monitoring and acoustic emission is carried out.

We report operation of v ~ 2.7 THz quantum-cascade lasers (QCLs) up to 174 K. A new three-well active region, one-well injector scheme is utilized to lower the operating current densities. While the temperature performance of this design is comparable to that of the best published THz QCLs, lower operating current densities make this design a viable alternative.
