We consider the use of transmit and receive filters as optimum terminal filters to mitigate the effects of fading channel in frequency division duplex-code division multiple access (FDD-CDMA) systems. It is shown that the effects of multipath fading channel at the mobile receiver can be mitigated by properly designing of the filters based on the use of channel information. In order to compensate the effect of feedback delay (which is inherently present in FDD systems), a linear prediction of channel coefficients is used in the system to design the terminal filters for the current slot transmission. From the simulation results, it is shown that our proposed method performs better than that of MMSE equalizer, RAKE receiver with transmit filter (FIR-RAKE).

We have described a 5.8 GHz vCO using the High-Q resonator of the CSRR structure and the negative resistance circuit of the CRLH-TL target for ISM band wireless applications. Wider tuning range and lower phase noise than the conventional vCO have been obtained by this structure. Powered by a 1.2 v supply, the vCO has consumed 56 mA current with measured phase noise of -114.33 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset of the 5.8 GHz carrier. As a result, the vCO has been achieved a FOM of -191.6, which is one of the best reported to date.

This paper describes a novel CMOS low-voltage trans-impedance amplifier topology which operates using a 0.8 v power supply with a DC power dissipation of 700 muW. A new low-voltage regulated cascode circuit has been developed which reduces the need for extra bias voltages compared to other recent low-voltage regulated cascode topology. A trans-impedance gain of around 60 dB along with a 40 GHz bandwidth was achieved using the 0.13 mum 8M1P IBM CMOS process technology. The output noise voltage spectral density was 6 nv/radic(Hz), while, the input referred noise current spectral density was below 18 pA/radic(Hz) within the -3 dB bandwidth. Eye diagram simulations using a -53 dBm input photo-diode current signal and a 2 31 -1 pseudo random bit sequence data pattern, indicates an eye opening of 90% at 10 Gbit/s, 70% at 20 Gbit/sec, 50% at 40 Gbit/s and 30% at 60 Gbits/sec. This proposed RGC TIA is thus a robust building block for numerous optical transceiver applications with low bit error ratio (BER) figure.

In recent past, there has been intense interest for the development of devices around 100 GHz using technologies of solid state devices as well as of vacuum tubes. In the present work we have synthesized serpentine folded waveguide structure based on an analytical approach. Beam parameter 10 kv beam voltage, 50 mA beam current and 200 micron beam diameter have been used for this synthesis. Synthesized input parameters have been used to model RF structure in CST Microwave Studio to optimize for the required operating frequency.

This paper reports the design and preparation of ultra-fast photoconductive(PC)switch made from a 500 nm thick low temperature grown GaAs(LT-GaAs)on a transparent quartz glass *** the procedures of photolithography, etching,evaporation etc.,coplanar strip(CPS)transmission lines of Au/Pt with width and spacing of 10μm and thickness of 600 nm are evaporated on the substrate of *** photoconductive switch has ideal dark resistance, good 1-v performance and photoelectric linearity under an exposure of weak *** dark current is about 0.1 pA at a bias voltage of 10 *** typical risetime of the photoconductive switch is 1.3 ps measured by pump-probe technique with a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser with pulse width of 100 fs,wavelength of 800 nm,and frequency of 100 MHz.

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope is a six meter, off-axis Gregorian telescope for measuring the cosmic microwave background at arcminute resolutions. The Millimeter Bolometer Array Camera (MBAC) is its current science instrument. Erected in the Atacama Desert of Chile in early 2007, it saw first light with the MBAC on 22 October 2007. In this paper we review its performance after one month of observing, focusing in particular on issues surrounding the alignment of the optical system that impact the sensitivity of the experiment. We discuss the telescope motion, pointing, and susceptibility to thermal distortions. We describe the mirror alignment procedure, which has yielded surface deviations of 31 mu m rms on the primary and 10 mu m rms on the secondary. Observations of planets show that the optical performance is consistent with the telescope design parameters. Preliminary analysis measures a, solid angle of about 215 nanosteradians with a full width at half maximum of 1.44 arcminutes at 145 GHz.

The new combined optical pick-up head for recording and playback of information on DvD and BD format discs was developed. The same objective is used for both channels. It consists of the objective lens and Holographic optical Element. In this work we present the main results of the studies of the possibility to manufacture the HOE included in objective of BD/DvD combined optical pick-up head in the dependence on objective lens glass type.

The traditional approach to optical system engineering separates the scene, optics, and detector as static entities, optimizing the design to meet subsystem specifications of aperture, field size, encircled energy, read noise, dynamic range, and other electro-optical properties. The Scene-Based Sensor Model (SBSM) represents a different approach by simulating the scene, optics and detector as a cohesive model using commercially available optical ray-tracing software. The objects are modeled as temporally changing entities, with characteristics including reflectance, absorbance, fluorescence, and scattering. Likewise, the detectors are modeled with their properties of temporal noise, spatial non-uniformity, nonlinear gain, and offset drift. The end-to-end simulation produces "photons-to-bits" analysis applicable to a variety of optical systems. First results are illustrated with ray tracing simulation of moving fluorescent objects and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy.

A refractive astigmatic lens is employed to generate a focus error signal (FES) for servo control in general optical pickup. In this paper, a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed to implement optical functions of astigmatic focusing for a MEMS-based miniature optical pickup at 650nm wavelength. We present a diffractive astigmatic lens with its internal zones and external zones quantized into four, two phase levels, respectively based on fabrication consideration. The optical simulation based on scalar diffraction theory shows the efficiency of this quantized lens for astigmatic focusing and a comparison of the FES in the optical pickup system has been plotted.

We propose a novel method to correct the spherical and coma aberration using a hybrid element (refractive-diffractive). The refractive surface is used to correct the coma, we obtain this condition curving the second principal plane and centred it on the axial point image. The diffractive element is used to correct the spherical aberration using an exact ray trace and the diffractive coefficients as variables. The optimization routine is no required. This method can be used for any conjugates position.
