Reproducibility imposes some special requirements at different stages of each project, including reproducible workflows for the analysis including to follow best practices regarding code style and to make the creation of the manuscript reproducible as well. Available tools therefore include version control systems such as Git and document creation tools such as Quarto or R Markdown. However, a reusable project template mapping the entire process from performing the dataanalysis to finally writing the manuscript in a reproducible manner is yet lacking. This work aims to fill this gap by presenting an open source template for conducting reproducible research projects utilizing a containerized framework for both developing and conducting the analysis and summarizing the results in a manuscript. This template can be used instantly without any customization.

This paper reports the development of a cascade PID type control scheme for a MIMO spinbath circulation process regulation. In the proposed scheme, the dynamic model of the complete spinbath circulation process is first developed using concepts from fluid dynamics. Reduction of the obtained model through lumping of identical processes as well as linearization techniques is then conducted to obtain a simplified MIMO linear system with cascading control structure. A cascade PI control configuration is then constructed to achieve simultaneous control objectives in the interacting process variables of the developed simplified model [1]–[3]. More specifically, the proposed cascade controller is of the type of summed setpoint cascade PI that is selected for its cost-effectiveness and computational efficiency. It combines a summed setpoints to simultaneously manages multiple inputs, as well as cascades of faster inner disturbance rejection to allow for the minimization of the overall process' output deviations. Simulation results for constant as well as changing setpoints are then presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling and cascade control schemes.

The present study investigates the dynamics of merging flames, a prevalent phenomenon in reacting flow systems. We employ two different model order reduction techniques to uncover the underlying spatiotemporal features: Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD). These approaches extract dominant flame modes, frequencies, and coherent structures within the reacting zone. We capture the intricate behavior of merging flames by conducting experiments with candle flames, which serve as a simplified yet representative model. By applying DMD to high-dimensional flame data, we successfully extracted coherent structures and dominant modes of variability. This allowed us to characterize the frequencies and spatial structures of the merging flame dynamics in more detail. Additionally, we utilized DMD to construct reduced-order models, which accurately captured the dominant flame modes. These models enable us to predict future flame behavior and design effective control strategies for flame stabilization. The combined use of DMD and POD enhances the analysis by comprehensively understanding the merging flame behavior. DMD uncovers the temporal evolution and characteristic frequencies, while POD identifies the spatial structures and energy distribution among different modes. This integrated approach allows us to construct reduced-order models that accurately capture the dominant flame modes and their corresponding frequencies, facilitating future predictions and control strategies for flame stabilization.

In this paper, a localization solution for railway and tramway vehicles, relying on low-cost on-board sensor technology and on a Kalman-based data fusion scheme, is tested against failures in GPS measurement acquisition. Such failures can be caused by either non-favorable operating conditions (e.g, the presence of tunnels), or intentional/accidental service disruptions. Our analysis, carried out through simulation of a three-dimensional multi-body vehicle, highlights failure conditions under which the localization solution is shown to be resilient with respect to an acceptable performance level, as well as situations that the original framework is not able to cope with. In the latter case, a variant solution, still based on low-cost on-board technology, is shown to be able to recover satisfactory performance.
