Point processdata arise in a number of application areas including neural coding, genomics, high-frequency finance, and more recently, streaming data. The Hawkes process is a flexible modeling approach for such data that exhibit self-exciting behavior. However, the Hawkes process does not accommodate inhibitory effects also observed in such data. In this paper, we present a nonlinear Hawkes model which accommodates inhibition while guaranteeing positivity of the point process intensity. The positivity preserving property allows a parsimonious representation of the Hawkes impulse response using Laguerre orthogonal polynomials. We develop a fast algorithm to perform maximum likelihood estimation and demonstrate the approach with a simulation and also on some neural data.

The article presents the results of experiments with a microturbine for a microfluidic membrane control system for a wheeled vehicle (WV). In the first experiment, the traction characteristics of the drive were evaluated when the vehicle was moving along an inclined surface with an additional load. In the second experiment, data on the rotation speed of the drive wheel were obtained. This paper presents an innovative application of stochastic control methodologies for optimizing the performance of spin-exchange relaxation-free co-magnetometers under conditions of internal heat source instability-induced atomic number density fluctuations. A data-driven modeling framework is adopted to develop an ARMAX model for the non-magnetoelectric heating system, followed by the implementation of a minimum variance control strategy to stabilize atomic number density within the gas cell. Comparative analysis against open-loop and ADRC approaches, based on simulation and experimental results, reveals a substantial reduction in atomic number density variance, showcasing superior control efficacy. This study emphasizes the integration of stochastic control techniques into advanced instrumentation, thereby offering avenues for enhancing the operational capabilities of thermal atomic instruments.

This article provides a tutorial on data-driven methods for diagnostics and prognostics. The methods span the range from classical methods to machine learning-based methods including ensemble methods and support vector machine. The main challenges associated with diagnostics/prognostics are discussed, and decision rules are provided for selecting which data-driven modeling method to apply to a particular dataset based on the characteristics of the data. The autonomous selection of data-driven methods is described, as an application-specific automated machine learning (AutoML) approach. A case study of a simulated chemical plant provided by Tennessee Eastman Company is used to illustrate the characteristics of the data-driven methods for diagnostics and prognostics.

Crude distillation unit (CDU) generally exists severe corrosion. Risk-based inspection (RBI) technology can effectively assess risk of stationary equipment in petrochemical industry. Meanwhile, integrity operating window (IOW) can effectively control risk by establishing standard and critical limits. Limited of data integrated analysis and the complexity of interfaces connecting in different systems, current risk assessment of complete sets of equipment mainly adopted static method. API 584-2021describes the IOW parameters of the crude distillation unit, but there are few reports about how to apply the dynamic RBI and IOW in the field engineering to achieve real-time risk assessment and warning control of the safety operation boundary. Combining RBI and IOW technology, we recently developed a dynamic risk assessment and IOW warning system by interacting three types dynamic interface data, i.e., medium composition in laboratory information management system (LIMS), real-time process operation parameters in distributed control system (DCS) and equipment thickness in corrosion monitoring system (CMS). The developed system was further applied to the crude distillation unit. Taking three typical corrosion circuits of crude oil circuit before desalting, atmospheric tower overhead circuit and second-line circuit of vacuum tower as examples, the variation of dynamic indicators and risk were investigated. Firstly, the damage modes were analyzed according to API 581 and GB/T 30579. And then the monitoring points including medium compositions, process operation parameters and wall thickness were respectively established by analyzing the corresponding data in LIMS, DCS and CMS. Thus, the risk results will update dynamically with the variations of abovementioned data. Based on dynamic risk results, the critical IOW operation boundaries in typical circuits were also displayed.
