Resource optimization in MMAP/PH/S priority queueing model with threshold PH retrial times and the preemptive resume policy

The findings of this article expounds a multi-server priority queueing model by taking into account the preemptive resume priority scheduling and threshold based phase-type distribution (PHD) for retrial process. On the basis of priority, the incoming heterogeneous traffic is categorized as high priority traffic (HPT) and low priority traffic (LPT). When all the channels are busy, an arriving LPT will be denied for the service, and it will enter the orbit (virtual space) to retry after some time. The retrial process will follow PHD when the number of LPT is less than some threshold value otherwise the retrial process will follow exponential distribution. One of the following two instances may occur when all of the channels are occupied and a HPT enters the system. In the first instance, the arriving HPT will be discarded from the system if all the channels are packed with HPT solely. On the contrary, in the second instance, the approaching HPT will be provided service by employing preemptive priority when at least one LPT is receiving service, and that preempted LPT will enter a buffer of finite capacity. Whenever an idle channel is found, the preempted LPT will begin its service from the termination phase. The level dependent quasi-birth-death process is used for the modeling and analysis of the proposed framework. By establishing that the proposed Markov chain satisfies the asymptotically quasi-Toeplitz Markov chain classification, the ergodicity conditions for the chain are demonstrated. For the numerical illustration, the expressions of several performance measures have been developed. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-ii approach has been used to address an optimization problem for resource optimization and traffic control.

This paper investigates the influence of end-milling process parameters such as spindle speed (rpm), feed rate (mm/min), and depth of cut (mm) on the response parameters such as surface roughness (SR) in μm and material removal rate (MRR) in cu. inches/min. The economical production is obtained by optimizing the process parameters such as cutting speed, spindle speed, spindle power, feed rate, flow rate of coolant, and depth of cut, since simultaneous optimization of the selected parameter in the case of the end-milling process is difficult. Initially, process modeling of SR and MRR of aluminum workpiece using end-milling machine has been performed by artificial neural network (ANN). The data set for the model is generated using the full factorial method. In the next phase of this work, two genetic algorithm (GA)-based multi-objective algorithms are compared to find out the best trade-offs between the two conflicting output parameters SR and MRR. Finally, the post-optimality analysis was executed to figure out the affair between the optimal machining parameter and optimal response parameter of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-ii (NSGA-ii). © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Stochastically Forced Ensemble Dynamic Mode Decomposition for Forecasting and analysis of Near-Periodic Systems

Time series forecasting remains a central challenge problem in almost all scientific disciplines. We introduce a novel load forecasting method in which observed dynamics are modeled as a forced linear system using Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) in time delay coordinates. Central to this approach is the insight that grid load, like many observables on complex real-world systems, has an "almost-periodic" character, i.e., a continuous Fourier spectrum punctuated by dominant peaks, which capture regular (e.g., daily or weekly) recurrences in the dynamics. The forecasting method presented takes advantage of this property by (i) regressing to a deterministic linear model whose eigenspectrum maps onto those peaks, and (ii) simultaneously learning a stochastic Gaussian process regression (GPR) process to actuate this system. Our forecasting algorithm is compared against state-of-the-art forecasting techniques not using additional explanatory variables and is shown to produce superior performance. We further show that this joint approach offers marked improvement over existing methods that use purely DMD or GPR. Moreover, its use of linear intrinsic dynamics offers a number of desirable properties in terms of interpretability and parsimony. Results are presented for a test case using load data from an electrical grid. Load forecasting is an essential challenge in power systems engineering, with major implications for real-time control, pricing, maintenance, and security decisions.

This paper conducted a questionnaire survey on the use of baggage handling system in 42 terminals of 37 airports in China, and divided the stages affecting the smoothness of baggage handling system into 4 parts: Baggage acceptance, Baggage transfer process, Baggage transfer terminal, and system operation control. And based on the results of the questionnaire survey, field research was conducted on the baggage handling systems of Chengdu Tianfu Airport (T2), Chongqing Jiangbei Airport (T2A, T2B, T3A) and Guiyang Longdongbao Airport (T3), which are representative ones. Through the analysis of the research data, the key stick and jam points and causes that affect the smooth conveyance of the baggage handling system are clarified, and the suggested measures to solve the stick and jam baggage are given from various perspectives such as optimization of design methods, manufacturing and installation control. The suggested measures show the way for the quality improvement of China's airport baggage handling system and also provide relevant reference for the design, manufacture and installation of baggage handling system. © 2023 IEEE.

A process that is almost always present in the chemical industry is distillation. The plant used in this study is a batch-type distillation column system located in the ITB Honeywell control Systems Laboratory, capable of separating binary mixtures of ethanol and water. To apply the control scheme effectively, the plant's dynamics model is required. However, the challenge lies in the fact that the distillation column plant is a highly nonlinear and multivariable system based on its physical laws, with a limited number of sensors available to collect all states information, where only 1 state, which is also an output, can be measured. As a result, this research performs data-driven system identification through black-box modeling based on experimental input-output data using a neural network to generate a linear model. This research employs a discrete-time ARMA-FNN linear model for online identification of the distillation column system, with a focus on comparing learning algorithms for weight updating in the FNN. Specifically, a comparison is made between the stochastic Steepest Gradient Descent (SGD) algorithm and the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) algorithm. Both algorithms are suitable for comparison because they both operate in an instance-by-instance mode and can be employed for online system identification. Based on the results presented in TABLE ii, it can be observed that the best Mean Squared Error (MSE) is achieved by entry number 2, utilizing the EKF algorithm, with a value of 5,5418e-05. Furthermore, as shown in TABLE ii, entry number 3 demonstrates that the EKF algorithm can converge the fastest, approximately by the 6th instance. This achievement comes with a trade-off, as the resulting MSE slightly deteriorates. © 2023 IEEE.

The conventional positive solution approach for determining the forward motion of the kinematic mechanism relies primarily on the outcomes of the inverse solution of motion, which is not universally applicable to flexible parallel mechanisms. Furthermore, the process of analyzing the natural frequency of parallel mechanisms is complex, cumbersome, and challenging. More importantly, the two models are independent, and there is no unified mathematical analysis model for flexible parallel mechanisms. Therefore, this paper establishes a unified mathematical model for kinematics and dynamics analysis of flexible parallel mechanisms through an improved multi-body system transfer matrix method. Taking the flexible 3-RPU planar mechanism and the space 2-RPU (2-UPS) space mechanism as examples, respectively, the forward motion solution of the mechanism was analyzed and its working space range and resonance frequency were solved. Finally, the calculation results are compared with the simulation results, and the feasibility and accuracy of the method are proved. Through this method, we can quickly solve the motion characteristics of the mechanism without relying on the results of the inverse solution of the mechanism, which provides suggestions for the precise control of flexible parallel mechanisms and also provides corresponding reference basis for the practical application of flexible parallel mechanisms. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Industrial process tomography (IPT) is a specialized imaging technique widely used in industrial scenarios for process supervision and control. Today, augmented/mixed reality (AR/MR) is increasingly being adopted in many industrial occasions, even though there is still an obvious gap when it comes to IPT. To bridge this gap, we propose the first systematic AR approach using optical see-through (OST) head mounted displays (HMDs) with comparative evaluation for domain users towards IPT visualization analysis. The proof-of-concept was demonstrated by a within-subject user study (n = 20) with counterbalancing design. Both qualitative and quantitative measurements were investigated. The results showed that our AR approach outperformed conventional settings for IPT data visualization analysis in bringing higher understandability, reduced task completion time, lower error rates for domain tasks, increased usability with enhanced user experience, and a better recommendation level. We summarize the findings and suggest future research directions for benefiting IPT users with AR/MR.

With the rapid promotion of hydrogen energy, hydrogen production technology becomes a key area of future energy research. Herein, alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is a mainstream technology, and the study and optimization of its performance are of great significance. However, in the process of coupling electric hydrogen production and power electronic devices, different subsystems have different mathematical properties, which is difficult to construct models together. And the strong coupling between electricity and heat affects the overall analysis of AWE systems. In order to establish an isomorphic model with the circuit network, a cross-scale heat current model of AWE system is established to describe heat transfer and electrochemical processes following a unified equivalent circuit form. The influence of parameters such as temperature and pressure on the system performance and internal characteristics is investigated. As the cooling water flow rate increases from 0.3 to 0.7kg/s, the cell voltage rises by 0.1 V, and voltage efficiency decreases by 2.7%. Comparing the current-voltage polarization curve with single-cell experimental data conducted by HRI, the maximum relative errors is less than 0.5%, comparing the system result with Aspen simulation, the maximum relative errors is less than 0.43% and 0.1%, validating the effectiveness of the proposed model.

modeling of compressors and other complex thermodynamic structures is an important process in the design of these systems. Finding models that not only accurately describe the system, but also are convenient to create and modify is still considered a challenge. Many models have been created using the Moore-Greitzer model. This model has been used in many works throughout the years with some of those being detailed here. A model of a small experimental compressor rig was developed in Toolbox for the modeling and analysis of Thermodynamic Systems (T-MATS). To verify the accuracy and capabilities of this toolbox, a comparison between actual experimental test data and data generated through simulation using the model generated. These two outcomes are compared and it is found that they have a good correlation with each other. The error is small between the experimental data and the simulation data which indicates utility of such simulation models for use in further research.
