The global share of energy consumption by data centers has reached the level of several percent and continues to rise. For this reason, ensuring optimal energy efficiency of the cooling process in data centers is an essential matter. As most data centers are air-cooled, it is required to investigate an airflow pattern inside as well as the accompanying heat transfer phenomena to assess the efficiency of the cooling process of the object. What is more, the thermal state of a server room as well as its power consumption often has a transient nature not only due to turbulent airflow inside but also because of dynamically changing servers’ load and time-varying output conditions of the coolers as a consequence of their control algorithms. That is why it is necessary to use transient modeling to get a deep and complete insight into the nature of the airflow and heat transfer phenomena in a server room and the resulting energy usage. A technique which allows modeling of the airflow and heat transfer in a detailed, volumetric way is computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Unfortunately, employing CFD for complex models especially in a transient manner can become a tedious process for an engineer and a challenging task for computational resources. In this paper we present a framework which is designed for automatic numerical heat transfer analysis of data center objects, using in the backend OpenFOAM, a well-known open-source CFD toolkit. Besides the automation process, the presented framework includes the implementation of transient models of active server room equipment and modeling of their energy usage as well as support for using high performance computing (HPC) systems equipped with SLURM queuing system. The software description is followed by a presentation of its application for a study of a hypothetical server room. A transient scenario of rapid application of servers’ load is simulated, including an energy consumption analysis of cooling devices.

Industrial control systems (ICS) are increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks that can propagate to impact physical industrial processes. Existing research on ICS impact analysis views ICS dependability attributes as an afterthought and focuses primarily on attacks but not the attackers and their different behaviors. In this work, we include explicit considerations for ICS dependability attributes and attacker behaviors in ICS impact analysis. By adopting the Structured Cyberattack Impact analysis (SCIA) approach, our model-based impact analysis is demonstrated on a manufacturing ICS modeled in UPPAAL-SMC. More specifically, we visualize and quantify, respectively, using simulations and statistical model checking, the potential impact of data tampering attacks when performed by attackers with different behaviors (random, relentless, and informed). Furthermore, the impact analysis results highlight the interplay of ICS dependability attributes in terms of (1) how attacks on ICS security can impact system reliability and availability, (2) how improving security can improve system availability and reliability, and (3) how accepting some sacrifices on one attribute (availability) can end up improving other attributes (security and reliability).

The autonomous aerial refueling (AAR) has become an effective way to prolong air combat time in modern warfare. However, the control of the docking process should be precise enough because of the strong instability of the drogue. The bow wave is an important factor in disturbing the motion of drogue which is few mentioned in relevant research. A deep learning method is proposed to estimate the effect of the bow wave, which is hard to be predicted by accurate modeling. Considering the authenticity of model, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is used to obtain the experiment data in the docking. Through the simulations and comparison, it is proved that the model fitted by deep learning is more accurate and the calculation speed is faster, which provides a feasible way for online optimization of AAR. © 2022, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

At present, the efficient bio-liquefaction technology of dead livestock and poultry has become an important technical means for the harmless treatment of dead livestock and poultry because of its advantages of high value-added liquid amino acid fertilizer. How to achieve the precise control of temperature in the process of efficient bio-liquefaction of dead livestock and poultry is a difficult problem that needs to be solved urgently. In this study, a temperature control system for the bio-liquefaction of dead livestock and poultry based on fuzzy neural network PID was proposed. The fuzzy neural network algorithm blurs inputs, models rules, and fuzzy reasoning through fuzzy set theory to simulate human fuzzy reasoning ability to achieve the modeling and control of complex systems. analysis showed that the temperature control was effective. The temperature change amplitude was ± 2. The experimental results showed that the system had the characteristics of simple structure, small static error, and fast dynamic response speed. An effective technical means for the precise control of temperature in the process of efficient bio-liquefaction of dead livestock and poultry is provided in this study, which has a wide range of application prospects.

The advancing industrial digitalization enables evolved process control schemes that rely on accurate models learned through data-driven approaches. While they provide high control performance and are robust to smaller deviations, a larger change in process behavior can pose significant challenges, in the worst case even leading to a damaged process plant. Hence, it is important to frequently assess the fit between the model and the actual process behavior. As the number of controlled processes and associated data volumes increase, the need for lightweight and fast reacting assessment solutions also increases. In this paper, we propose CIVIC, an in-network computing-based solution for Continuous In-situ Validation of Industrial control models. In short, CIVIC monitors relevant process variables and detects different process states through comparison with a priori knowledge about the desired process behavior. This detection can then be leveraged to, e.g., shut down the process or trigger a reconfiguration. We prototype CIVIC on an Intel Tofino-based switch and apply it to a lab-scale water treatment plant. Our results show that we can achieve a high detection accuracy, proving that such monitoring systems are feasible and sensible.

With the increasing penetration of inverter based renewable energy and distributed energy storages in nowadays’ power systems, the system status and operation conditions are hard to track with traditional scheduling-based power system transient analysis approach, and more fast and efficient transient analysis methods are needed to address the power system dynamic security problems. This paper proposed a graph computing based power system transient analysis approach to achieve efficient and accurate solution for power system stability analysis. To overcome the data management challenges, a spatiotemporal graph model is constructed for efficient data management in power system transient analysis. Then, a graph computing based transient analysis method is proposed to leverage the parallel computing power to speed up the computational process. Finally, a power system transient analysis software is developed based on the graph computing based transient analysis method to validate the proposed approach.

This paper introduces an interdependent tandem queueing model for communication networks. The model effectively transports voice and data traffic by adopting strong packet switching and multiplexing capabilities. Application of the bit-dropping scheme as the best congestion control mechanism in the network model encapsulates one of the primary thrusts of this study. Performance measures of statistical multiplexing are built in the research, e.g., approximating the correlated arrival and service processes to the Poisson process, an empirical model employed in the modeling of random events. Importantly, the study illustrates the practical advantages of interdependent communication networks. In particular, it shows their ability to decrease the average transmission delay, or the time for data to pass through the network, as well as buffer level fluctuation. These results show the potential of interdependent networks to optimize network efficiency, a significant issue in modern communication systems.

With the rapid development of the social economy, various industries' water consumption is growing rapidly, and the sewage discharge is also increasing. This paper studies the modeling of the water quality of the Yangtze River. First of all, this paper uses the three-parameter comprehensive evaluation index to express the average pollution index of the observation stations of the Yangtze River in the past two years, makes a comprehensive evaluation of the water quality of the Yangtze River, obtains the comprehensive evaluation index, and analyzes the pollution situation of each region. Then the amount of permanganate and ammonia nitrogen polluted in the river section between the adjacent observation points on the mainstream (kg/day) is used to evaluate the pollution status of the river section and analyze the seriously polluted areas. Finally, according to the grayscale principle, the gray prediction model is used to process the data, reduce the random influence of the original data, and predict the wastewater discharge of the Yangtze River in the next ten years. © 2022 SPIE.

The study of dynamic systems often assumes building a model based on numerical data describing the system’s behavior, i.e., its identification. This problem is relevant, since it is impossible to study properties of a real object, make predictions and select correct control without an adequate mathematical model. The representation of the object’s model in a symbolic form as differential equations or their systems is the most common and convenient for further application. The paper examines the efficiency of the evolutionary approach to the structural-parametric identification on test problems, the problem of modeling the longitudinal perturbed motion of an aircraft and the problem of modeling the viscous fluid movement when heated it from below.

The aim of this paper is to study how to optimise resource allocation and decision-making under complex constraints to enhance the overall efficiency and economic benefits of the system through multi-objective optimisation and scenario analysis models. We adopt advanced intelligent algorithms and techniques, such as historical data alignment and integration processing, to ensure data consistency and accuracy. During the construction of the optimisation model, a multi-objective optimisation method based on linear programming is introduced to maximise the system revenue and derive the optimal decision-making strategies under different scenarios. To further enhance the robustness and adaptability of the model, we use the Local Sensitive Hashing (LSH) method to sample and cut down the scenarios to efficiently simulate the decision-making behaviours in potentially risky environments. Subsequently, the optimisation process is thoroughly analysed and improved by combining the NSGA-ii genetic algorithm and multiple regression model. The results show that the application of computer-related advanced optimisation algorithms can effectively deal with the resource allocation problems in complex scenarios, significantly improve the system effectiveness and economic returns, and provide a powerful support for decision-making optimisation in related fields.
