The advancing industrial digitalization enables evolved process control schemes that rely on accurate models learned through data-driven approaches. While they provide high control performance and are robust to smaller deviations, a larger change in process behavior can pose significant challenges, in the worst case even leading to a damaged process plant. Hence, it is important to frequently assess the fit between the model and the actual process behavior. As the number of controlled processes and associated data volumes increase, the need for lightweight and fast reacting assessment solutions also increases. In this paper, we propose CIVIC, an in-network computing-based solution for Continuous In-situ Validation of Industrial control models. In short, CIVIC monitors relevant process variables and detects different process states through comparison with a priori knowledge about the desired process behavior. This detection can then be leveraged to, e.g., shut down the process or trigger a reconfiguration. We prototype CIVIC on an Intel Tofino-based switch and apply it to a lab-scale water treatment plant. Our results show that we can achieve a high detection accuracy, proving that such monitoring systems are feasible and sensible.

With the increasing penetration of inverter based renewable energy and distributed energy storages in nowadays’ power systems, the system status and operation conditions are hard to track with traditional scheduling-based power system transient analysis approach, and more fast and efficient transient analysis methods are needed to address the power system dynamic security problems. This paper proposed a graph computing based power system transient analysis approach to achieve efficient and accurate solution for power system stability analysis. To overcome the data management challenges, a spatiotemporal graph model is constructed for efficient data management in power system transient analysis. Then, a graph computing based transient analysis method is proposed to leverage the parallel computing power to speed up the computational process. Finally, a power system transient analysis software is developed based on the graph computing based transient analysis method to validate the proposed approach.

This paper introduces an interdependent tandem queueing model for communication networks. The model effectively transports voice and data traffic by adopting strong packet switching and multiplexing capabilities. Application of the bit-dropping scheme as the best congestion control mechanism in the network model encapsulates one of the primary thrusts of this study. Performance measures of statistical multiplexing are built in the research, e.g., approximating the correlated arrival and service processes to the Poisson process, an empirical model employed in the modeling of random events. Importantly, the study illustrates the practical advantages of interdependent communication networks. In particular, it shows their ability to decrease the average transmission delay, or the time for data to pass through the network, as well as buffer level fluctuation. These results show the potential of interdependent networks to optimize network efficiency, a significant issue in modern communication systems.

With the rapid development of the social economy, various industries' water consumption is growing rapidly, and the sewage discharge is also increasing. This paper studies the modeling of the water quality of the Yangtze River. First of all, this paper uses the three-parameter comprehensive evaluation index to express the average pollution index of the observation stations of the Yangtze River in the past two years, makes a comprehensive evaluation of the water quality of the Yangtze River, obtains the comprehensive evaluation index, and analyzes the pollution situation of each region. Then the amount of permanganate and ammonia nitrogen polluted in the river section between the adjacent observation points on the mainstream (kg/day) is used to evaluate the pollution status of the river section and analyze the seriously polluted areas. Finally, according to the grayscale principle, the gray prediction model is used to process the data, reduce the random influence of the original data, and predict the wastewater discharge of the Yangtze River in the next ten years. © 2022 SPIE.

The study of dynamic systems often assumes building a model based on numerical data describing the system’s behavior, i.e., its identification. This problem is relevant, since it is impossible to study properties of a real object, make predictions and select correct control without an adequate mathematical model. The representation of the object’s model in a symbolic form as differential equations or their systems is the most common and convenient for further application. The paper examines the efficiency of the evolutionary approach to the structural-parametric identification on test problems, the problem of modeling the longitudinal perturbed motion of an aircraft and the problem of modeling the viscous fluid movement when heated it from below.

The aim of this paper is to study how to optimise resource allocation and decision-making under complex constraints to enhance the overall efficiency and economic benefits of the system through multi-objective optimisation and scenario analysis models. We adopt advanced intelligent algorithms and techniques, such as historical data alignment and integration processing, to ensure data consistency and accuracy. During the construction of the optimisation model, a multi-objective optimisation method based on linear programming is introduced to maximise the system revenue and derive the optimal decision-making strategies under different scenarios. To further enhance the robustness and adaptability of the model, we use the Local Sensitive Hashing (LSH) method to sample and cut down the scenarios to efficiently simulate the decision-making behaviours in potentially risky environments. Subsequently, the optimisation process is thoroughly analysed and improved by combining the NSGA-ii genetic algorithm and multiple regression model. The results show that the application of computer-related advanced optimisation algorithms can effectively deal with the resource allocation problems in complex scenarios, significantly improve the system effectiveness and economic returns, and provide a powerful support for decision-making optimisation in related fields.

Though robot learning is often formulated in terms of discrete-time Markov decision processes (MDPs), physical robots require near-continuous multiscale feedback control. Machines operate on multiple asynchronous sensing modalities, each with different frequencies, e.g., video frames at 30Hz, proprioceptive state at 100Hz, force-torque data at 500Hz, etc. While the classic approach is to batch observations into fixed-time windows then pass them through feed-forward encoders (e.g., with deep networks), we show that there exists a more elegant approach - one that treats policy learning as modeling latent state dynamics in continuous-time. Specifically, we present InFuser, a unified architecture that trains continuous time-policies with Neural controlled Differential Equations (CDEs). InFuser evolves a single latent state representation over time by (In)tegrating and (Fus)ing multi-sensory observations (arriving at different frequencies), and inferring actions in continuous-time. This enables policies that can react to multi-frequency multi-sensory feedback for truly end-to-end visuomotor control, without discrete-time assumptions. Behavior cloning experiments demonstrate that InFuser learns robust policies for dynamic tasks (e.g., swinging a ball into a cup) notably outperforming several baselines in settings where observations from one sensing modality can arrive at much sparser intervals than others.

Business processes define requirements for software systems that support business goals. Enterprise Application Architectures (EAAs) organize the structure and behavior of the required software systems. Satisfying requirements regarding the confidentiality of information that originate from the business process design is crucial to fulfill legal obligations and corporate policies. Violating these obligations and policies can lead to high fines and lost assets. There is a gap in modeling confidentiality requirements holistically across business processes and EAAs (Alpers et al., 2019). Hence, aligning EAAs with business processes by identifying violated business access control requirements (ACRs) during the architectural design phase is vital. Thereto, three challenges need to be overcome: i) define the meaning of read and write from ACRs for EAAs, ii) identify relevant parts of the EAA affected by ACRs and iii) define rules to cope with data type refinement. In this paper, we present the challenges, solutions to them and our scientific findings that we made during the development of AcsALign, which is an approach to align the EAAs to ACRs of business processes in the early design phase and evolution scenarios using the established modeling languages Business process Model and Notation (BPMN) and Palladio Component Model (PCM). We apply our solutions in a real-world case study. Evaluation results show satisfying accuracy of the requirements extraction and architectural alignment.

We study how to schedule actuator data transmission in discrete-time networked model reference adaptive control systems for reducing wireless network utilization. We propose an event-triggered hedging approach introduced to the reference model, which is constructed by taking the difference between the sampled control signal sent to an uncertain dynamical system and the actual discrete-time control signal computed by the adaptive control algorithm. The advantages of the proposed approach include i) asymptotic convergence of the difference between an uncertain dynamical system state and the reference model state predicated on a logarithmic Lyapunov function-based stability analysis, ii) possibility of convergence of the estimated parameters to the unknown parameters when the closed-loop dynamical system is persistently excited, and iii) direct execution of the proposed approach in an embedded code. Note that i) and ii) are not trivial to achieve without introducing the proposed hedging approach to the reference model and iii) results from our discrete-time framework since existing continuous-time approaches require discretization that may result in loss of stability properties. Finally, an illustrative numerical example is provided for demonstrating the efficacy of the proposed approach.

In the process of plasma-electrolytic synthesis, a new physical surface is synthesized, consisting of a metal oxide layer of a modified surface and the synthesis of elements of a set of electrolyte plasma, the nodal sources of the components of which are the components of the electrodes (electrolyte and metal surface). In this regard, the classification of plasma electro-discharge processes based on analyzing optical and electrical sensor data using machine learning methods is an actual task. It can be used for intelligent control algorithms of the sensor layers operations and conduct analytical and quantitative studies of the properties of nodal substances. The paper presents the experimental analysis of video and electrical parameters of the oxygen process, automated processing of the basic features of images of plasma-electrolyte discharges, and a segmentation approach of the electric-discharge machining. This approach can help create microsensor elements and materials and systems for intelligent modeling and launching of electrochemical methods for creating an electrolyte plasma and directed synthesis of substances. To test the performance of the proposed algorithm, the database STANKIN is used.
