The Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) is a Swiss research infrastructure initiative that aims to facilitate the exchange of health-related data in a FAIR manner. The SPHN dataset and SPHN RDF Schema form an essential part of the SPHN Semantic Interoperability Framework, which currently covers mostly clinical routine data. To facilitate the integration of omics data produced by the SPHN National data Streams, a genomics extension was developed. This was done in close collaboration with clinicians, researchers, bioinformaticians, and data managers, from Swiss university hospitals, academic research groups and the omics platforms. Here, we present the genomics extension of the SPHN RDF Schema, which can be used to semantically describe genomics experiments and covers both clinical and research domains. The schema centers around the general omics process flow, with concepts that denote the individual steps, such as sample processing, assay, and data processing. Genomics-specific specializations are provided, such as library preparation, sequencing assay, and sequencing analysis. The schema also facilitates in capturing other important omics metadata, such as information about the sequencing instrument, standard operating procedure, and quality control metrics. The extension aligns with existing semantic data models and reuses common biomedical vocabularies, such as EDAM, OBI and FAIR genomes, as value sets, thereby facilitating semantic interoperability. It will be used to FAIRify data that is produced within the Swiss network and to facilitate sharing this data as one knowledge graph for reuse among its participants. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Nonstructural elements are typically associated with high seismic risk, regarding functioning interruption, economic losses, and casualties. Architectural elements such as infills and internal partitions are often associated with major construction costs, and, even in case of relatively frequent earthquakes, the post-event repair costs might be critical, due to poor seismic performance. Moreover, damage of architectural elements typically affects functioning and operativity of the facilities. The present study focuses on seismic response of internal partitions, with particular regard to economic losses. Seismic losses associated with both traditional and innovative internal partitions are assessed and compared, considering code-conforming reinforced concrete frame buildings as a case study. Both traditional and innovative partition systems are investigated, considering hollow brick and plasterboard solutions. Seismic demand is assessed through multiple stripe analyses, considering advanced nonlinear modeling and including low-to-high seismicity sites in Italy. Seismic capacity of investigated partition systems is derived from literature experimental data, considering multiple damage states (and performance levels) as a reference. The study quantifies seismic losses associated with the investigated partition systems, shedding lights on their strengths and weaknesses in terms of seismic performance and economic efficiency. Technical insights regarding the efficient use of the investigated partitions are also supplied in the light of the loss comparison analysis.

The prediction of blast furnace gas (BFG) generation in ironmaking processes is crucial for the BFG scheduling work. Due to frequent switching of working conditions of the ironmaking process, the generation of BFG under each working condition fluctuates greatly. It is difficult to predict accurately during the transition of working conditions. In order to address these problems, this paper proposes a data-driven BFG generation prediction method based on a combination of an event-triggered scheme and a trend self-adaption scheme. In this method, different working conditions are divided by events such as the change of supply of hot air and oxygen. Considering the process characteristics of air reduction and restoration, the decrease and increase trends are predicted by a parameter adaption-based linear logarithmic regression. The model parameters are corrected online to realize trend self-discrimination. Besides, as for the residual sequence after trend fitting, it is modeled by using the long short-term memory (LSTM) network. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, actual industrial field data of a steel plant in China are utilized. Simulation experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves prediction accuracy of the BFG generation flow.

With the rapid increase in the complexity of electronics, the cost of the functional testing process used to ensure product functionality continues to rise. Optimization modeling based on reliability analysis is an effective approach to reduce testing costs. However, the reliability calculations of existing methods often exhibit significant deviations, making it challenging to guarantee the effectiveness of the resulting testing strategies in practical applications. To address this issue, this article proposes an optimization modeling method that integrates statistical analysis and reliability analysis. The expression for the reliability of the system's key stage is formulated by analyzing the system's reliability. Statistical analysis is utilized to exploit the inherent reliability information in the enormous process data to determine the probability of the root causes of system failures. The reliability of the key stage is quantitatively calculated based on the structure of the fault tree tailored for the system. On this basis, a binary optimization model is established to obtain a testing strategy with strong generalization ability and reduce the cost of functional testing. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through a simulation case study.

Soil loss is one of the main common challenges at global level related to intensified rainfall events with ever-greater flow rates and runoff volumes, due to climate change. In this context, the adoption of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) could control the runoff volumes and the sediment transfer process, guaranteeing environmental and social benefits. This study aims (i) to evaluate the sediment production in the Pietrarossa reservoir upstream catchment (about 259 km2, Eastern Sicily) in order to avoid the reservoir siltation and to maximize its life span by using a hydrological model (HEC-HMS), and (ii) to suitably locate NBS for runoff and sediment control, through a Multicriteria Decision analysis (MDCA) considering different feasibility and priority factors. In particular, simulations were performed for 3 different return periods (50, 100 e 300 years) and 13 rainfall events selected from data collected by Aidone pluviographic station (2002–2019). Furthermore, the model was calibrated by using runoff values computed with a rainfall-runoff model, due to the lack of measurements by a hydrometric station. Preliminary results showed a good model reliability between the observed and simulated runoff values, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.57. Moreover, the sediment production computed at event scale, by using the MUSLE equation within HEC-HMS model, was in the range of about 1–30 ton/ha for each sub-basin. Finally, the MDCA allowed to identify the NBS typology and location for a better resource saving and allocation. Functional testing stands as a pivotal quality control step in the production process of laptop motherboards, aiming to validate the proper functioning of various components. However, due to the multitude of functional modules involved on the motherboard, testing all of them requires a significant amount of time and resources. As a result, production line engineers often rely on empirical selection of modules with low yield rates for testing. However, such empirical yield estimation is often inaccurate. To address this challenge, this study proposes a hybrid model based on XGBoost and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to predict the yield of each functional module. By harnessing the feature learning capability of XGBoost and the sequential modeling power of LSTM, this model efficiently explores the intricate correlations among motherboard functional modules, thereby accurately forecasting their yields. We extensively train and validate the model using historical production data and successfully deploy it on real laptop motherboard production lines. Experimental results demonstrate that our hybrid model accurately predicts the yield of each functional module, providing crucial guidance for the functional testing process. Through in-depth analysis of the predicted yield results, engineers can systematically choose testing projects to save time and resources. This research offers a novel approach and pathway for enhancing motherboard production efficiency and quality.

This paper introduces the latest IEEE Std. 3002.8 2018 "Recommended Practice for Conducting Harmonic analysis Studies of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems". The standard replaces IEEE Std. 399 (Brown Book) Chapter 10 "Harmonic analysis studies" with significant enhancements and additions. The new standard addresses requirements for performing power system harmonic-analysis studies in industrial and commercial power systems due to increasing load non-linearities and control devices. Recommendations on developing system models to include various harmonic sources and electrical equipment and devices, preparing required data for modeling and studies, validating model and data, selecting study cases, and analyzing study results and outputs are discussed in detail in the standard. Common mitigation solutions for harmonic issues are presented and discussed. Features of computer aided tools that are used to perform harmonic-analysis study are reviewed. The new standard references to the latest IEEE Std. 519-2014 "Recommended Practices and Requirements for Harmonic control in Electrical Power Systems" for harmonic restrictions at PCC, and modeling and limits to interharmonics. Several examples are provided to demonstrate harmonic issues and illustrate analysis process through studies for mitigations. The authors of this paper are the co-chairs of IEEE Std. 3002.8-2018 working group.

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) framework necessitates accurate forecasting of the aggregated available capacity (AAC). This paper introduces a method for extracting AAC values from generic mobility data and other readily available data sources obtaining a comprehensive dataset that encompasses geographical information through GPS coordinates, meteorological data, and the consideration of national holidays and weekends. Different predictive models based on machine learning, such as Neural Networks, Long Short-Term Memory networks, Tree Ensembles, and Gaussian process Regressors were implemented. The application of such models on different multidimensional datasets seeks to enhance the precision of capacity predictions, explaining and modeling the complex dependencies within the input data and the target available capacity, ultimately improving the efficiency and reliability of V2G systems. As the prevalence of EVs continues to rise, the proposed methodology offers a valuable tool for grid operators, energy planners, and stakeholders to optimize the integration of EVs into the broader energy landscape and facilitates the strategic planning of aggregator hub locations.

The work prioritizes the development of a modular pipeline that efficiently utilizes existing models for image restoration instead of creating new ones from scratch. Restoration is conducted at an object-specific level, with each object being regenerated based on its corresponding class label information. What sets this approach apart is its provision of comprehensive user control throughout the restoration process. Users have the flexibility to choose models for specific restoration tasks, customize the sequence of steps according to their requirements, and enhance the resulting regenerated image with depth awareness. The study offers two distinct pathways for implementing image regeneration, allowing for a comparative analysis of their strengths and limitations. One of the main advantages of this adaptable system is its flexibility. Users can tailor the restoration process to target specific object categories, such as medical images, by leveraging models trained on those specific object classes. With the development of information technology, teaching reforms have been innovated, and the quality of university programs has become higher and higher. However, the emergence and widespread application of deep generative models have brought more challenges and opportunities to classroom teaching. With the continuous development of educational technology and the updating of teaching concepts, the depth generation model, as an emerging teaching mode, is gradually receiving attention from the educational community. In order to verify the effectiveness of the depth generation model, this study selected a certain number of college English classes as experimental subjects, and conducted in-depth data analysis and discussion by comparing the differences between the experimental group and the control group in terms of the frequency of interactions, the quality of interactions, the degree of student participation and learning effects. By comparing the classroom effects of using a deep generative modelling classroom with a traditional classroom, the study found that students’ overall grades in English classrooms using deep generative modelling improved by approximately 31 points, and that the average completion rate of assignments in deep generative modelling classrooms was 94.8%, which was much higher than that of traditional classrooms.
