In this paper, we investigate the transportation mode of TSV structure for subsequent modeling G-S TSVs. Next, a scalable physical lumped circuit model of ground-signal TSVs is established The scalable G-S TSVs model is developed with closed-form analytic RLGC equations derived from physical structure, and can be changed with structure parameters in design process accordingly. The validity of this model is verified with full-wave FEM-based simulator up to 20 GHz. Based on this accurate physical lumped circuit model, we investigate crosstalk of TSV array in both frequency domain and time domain. The method of modeling and analysis of TSV array crosstalk proposed in this paper can effectively reduce simulation time and computing resource over finite-element-based 3-D full-wave simulation.

Simplified models are used to replace SPICE based simulation models in analog and mixed-signal electronic circuits design for increased computational efficiency. The increase in computational efficiency usually comes at the expense of reduced model accuracies by comparison to simulation models. Graphical model validation methods can be used to display model and simulation data to complement validation statistics such as root mean square (RMS) error. In this paper, we present three plot types to display data to validate models in analog integrated circuits. These are the so-called circle plots, acceptance-score-distribution (ASD) plots, and ordinal plots. These plots are general and easy to generate using the same validation sample used to calculate other statistics, e.g., RMS errors;no extra simulation expenses are incurred. Furthermore, unlike quantitative statistics used for model validation, the methods presented require no statistical assumptions for the data that can be displayed.

In this paper, an automated extraction method to optimize the thermal conductivity of silicon is proposed. The approach is based on the electrical and thermal co-simulation of SiGe HBTs. The bisection method is used to optimize silicon conductivity values. The optimized material stack is embedded in the process design kit and allows designers to perform computing of the full-chip temperature profile and get accurate simulation results. The overall investigation is confirmed by measurements performed on bulk-silicon HBTs. Comparison between the simulations and the measurements shows that the maximum mismatch of %5 is achieved for the RTH values.

We present a fully-parametrized physics-based analytical methodology for the fast computation of the acoustic behavior of mm-sized circular acoustic channels with spatially varying radius. The presented algebraic method achieves accuracies comparable to state-of-the-art FEM simulations for frequencies between 10 Hz and 100 kHz, while reducing the computational time by a factor of more than 3000. Thanks to its glass-box nature, this method can be used for a wide range of applications such as the design optimization of acoustic channels to achieve a target operating frequency for a given MEMS-based ultrasonic system as well as to tailor the shape of its entire frequency response.

Testability analysis of linear time-invariant networks under the single-fault scenario is considered in this paper. To this end an interesting technique is proposed which does not require the analytic expression of the input-to-output network function. It is based on a fault model in the complex plane. The validity of the developed method is proved through applicative examples. A comparison with other similar techniques is also included.

This paper presents simulation results of a CMOS switching mode power amplifier (SA) in a 65 nm technology with adjustable output voltage swing. The output stage is built in a stacked design to prevent dielectric breakdown of the transistors. Inverters at the top and bottom of the stack provide the supply voltage for the stack. The configuration offers a variable output voltage swing between one, two or three times the nominal transistor supply voltage. This paper demonstrates the advantages over a power amplifier with fixed output levels for signals with high peak to average output power ratio (PAPR).

Numerical models of electrical cables are important to describe accurately signal propagation in electrical networks. We are interested in the modeling of cables used in low-voltage electrical networks. We observed that numerical cable models exhibit unrealistically sharp resonances and antiresonances. We propose an approach to generate cable models with realistic resonances and antiresonances by modifying the attenuation constant. The proposed approach is validated with Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) measurements performed on SPT-2 cable specimens of different lengths.

In this paper, a method for the generation of Response Surface Models for behavioral modeling is presented. To enable and automate this method, a MATLAB application supporting the complete modeling process has been developed. This includes initial model selection and validation, sensitivity analysis, automated simulation of sample and test points as well as regression model calculation. The tool is specialized for modeling the behavior of integrated circuit components, but can be used for other purposes as well. Additionally, the tool offers methods for the analysis and modeling of statistical data and can be easily extended by further functionalities. The application of the tool is shown using an amplifier.
