This paper presents effect of metamaterail on the radiation pattern of microstrip antenna at 60GHz band. A new design of metamaterial antenna based Square Split Ring Resonator and a conventional microstrip patch antenna both designed using gallium arsenate dialectical substrate to study the effect of ration pattern of antenna. The metamaterial antenna is made by using a single layer of metamaterial reflecting surface which is design from array of squared split ring resonator (SRR) printed on a GaAs dielectric. The height of reflecting surface is adjusted to improve the radiation pattern performance. The results show that the gain of the antenna radiation pattern with metamaterial reflecting surface is increased by 1.2 iI compared with conventional patch antenna without the metamaterial superstrate without distorting the antenna resonance frequency. High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) was used to simulate and analysis the metamaterial substrate and antenna configurations.

We present a problem-adapted finite element model, which enables the design of a novel type of a MEMS membrane pump as well as the investigation and the optimization of its operation, which heavily relies on the electrostatic pull-in of a radial membrane. The electro-mechanical actuation scheme constitutes a strongly coupled problem, which causes convergence problems due to the singular behavior of the electrostatic loads at small distances, as well as the highly non-linear mechanical contact. We overcome these issues by introducing problem-adapted regularization functions. These drastically improve the convergence behavior and the computation time, while at the same time causing only very small approximation errors. The resulting simulation model allows to gain a better understanding of the device operation, in particular to identify a failure condition of previously manufactured prototypes, where fluid is trapped in the pump chamber. Furthermore, it allows to quickly assess a design optimization that prevents this trapping and improves the overall device operation.

Model abstraction of transistor-level circuits, while preserving an accurate behavior, is still an open problem. In this paper an approach is presented that automatically generates a hybrid automaton (HA) with linear states. The resulting HA is used for reachability analysis. Each of the locations of the HA is modeled with a system matrix described as a matrix zonotope or interval matrix. This leads to an acceptable over approximation, but guarantees that the system behavior is covered. The approach starts with a netlist at transistor level with full SPICE accuracy and ends at the system level description of the circuit. To illustrate our methodology, an example of a circuit containing complex poles and strong nonlinear limiting behavior is analyzed.

This paper presents the high-level modeling and simulation of a GFSK RF transceiver for a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) system. This model, written in SystemC-AMS (SC-AMS) permits a simple integration within the existing system digital environment written in SystemC-TLM, which enables a global system simulation to obtain the system performance (e. g. Bit-Error-Rate (BER) or Packet- Error-Rate (PER)) related to the power and energy consumption.

In this paper a nonlinear model is proposed to characterize ferrite-core inductors operating in saturation region in Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs). The model, identified through experimental measurements of inductor current and voltage, relates the inductance to the current flowing through the inductor and also to the SMPS load current. Results show that the model allows reproducing the inductor current with high accuracy, in different working conditions.

A modern car contains about 30 magnetic sensors on average. Their performances depend on the readout circuit imperfections, the magnetic environment, and mechanical assembly tolerances. For angle sensors, this yields a complex physics with magnet tilt and off-axis rotation. Traditionally these effects are studied separately in finite-element-method (FEM) simulators, separated from traditional system and circuit designsimulation tools. This creates a simulation gap. A new modeling method for physical modeling of magnetic position sensors is presented. The method is based on spherical harmonic decomposition, and is implemented in Matlab. In this representation, any rigid-body 3-D motion of the magnet and sensor is modeled by matrix operations. Critical physical effects for the sensor accuracy can then be explored directly in system simulation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Python or even in an integrated circuit simulator. The method maintains FEM accuracy. It represents a paradigm shift in magnetic position sensor design, and brings FEM accuracy to a much wider range of users.

This paper demonstrates the characterization and modeling of an antenna to predict its effect when used in a digital communication system. The technique was applied to a commercial dual-band antenna. An equivalent circuit model was derived to characterize the antenna behavior in the frequency domain. A time domain system model was also derived to enable the estimation of the antenna effects in a digital system. The results show that the antenna caused symbol scattering and contributed to the error vector magnitude.

This paper presents a novel methodology to exchange schematic and simulation information between Electronic design Automation (EDA) tools. The schematic, symbol, model and simulation settings are described using standard extensible markup language (XML) format proposed first time in this paper. The standardization process is discussed and algorithm to generate the standard XML format is described. The proposed algorithm is implemented to exchange designs between WEBENCH, Tina-TI, Altium designer and Allegro design Entry CIS and conversion results are presented. The proposed methodology has enabled the design exchange a single click error free process and saved several engineering hours.

This paper is focused on modeling and performance investigation of insulin injection pens used by diabetic persons. A smart pen cap with two electrodes is used as a capacitive sensor for insulin dose detection and is presented in details. To faithfully analyze this medical device, both an analytical model and a fully parametrized three-dimensional physical model in ANSYS have been developed. The electrode capacitance is evaluated (by both simulations and analytical model), for the smart pen cap alone as well as for different insulin fill states in the insulin injection pen + smart pen cap complete system.

Modern systems become more and more complex and tendency turn to the integration on one single chip: System on Chip (SoC). A major constraint consists of "Time-to-Market". Hence, the emergence of SoC is creating many new challenges, especially, the necessity of a unified language for the system level design. SystemC is proposed as a standardized modeling language intended to enable system level design at multiple abstraction levels for hardware / software systems. This paper describes a method of stepwise refinement with SystemC, starting from an algorithmic description and progressively adding implementation details. The,method Is described with reference to a Turbo encoder, which is progressively moved from a purely abstract level to a more detailed description. This study is realized to emphasize on the importance of this tendency within the framework of SoC design. We also present the experimental results from specification, refinement and validation with SystemC and simulation effectiveness of the proposed method.
