An architectural design course demands a wide range of creative design approaches. To strengthen design concepts, students are encouraged to employ diverse digital tools during their ideation process. Traditional methods of representation include sketching, drafting, and modeling that explain the spatial organization and relationships. Although these methods provide an understanding of the design ideas, they cannot provide an immersive experience. Digital tools and platforms such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), metaverse, and rapid prototyping help students gain an empirical understanding of space. The recent advancement of VR gear, software, and applications lowered the threshold for designers and readily provides pedagogical options for exploring immersive experiences. The integration of digital tools helps designers quickly manifest a three-dimensional environment and explore various compositional and spatial options. through this process, the digital tool is transcended beyond a mere visualization tool and becomes a methodology to achieve better design. For the past several years, the author has had the opportunity to integrate various digital tools in architectural design courses to examine the implications of the digital design process. Participating students were introduced to architectural theory and experimented with various design strategies using digital tools. They employed BIM for modeling their designs and translated the designs to VR files for presentation and review sessions. The student viewers were able to use affordable VR gear Google Cardboard to evaluate and conducted peer reviews of the student projects. Furthermore, in the current course, the author is experimenting with VR gear and its applications as an experimental design tool that provides interactive 3-dimensional modeling capability in the VR environment. With the continuous improvement of performance requirements for aircraft combat, transportation, and power, the weight requirements for aircraft are becoming increasingly stringent, and the demand for lightweight design of aircraft accessories is becoming increasingly urgent. The aviation fuel pump is the core component of the aircraft fuel system. It is of great significance to reduce the mass of redundant structures and improve the power to weight ratio of pumps while ensuring structural strength. Traditional fuel pump design mainly relies on the designer's experience in selecting structural forms and determining parameters. With the development of technology, especially finite element technology, important methods and means have been provided for strength analysis in the design process of fuel pump structures. However, in terms of design methods, pump design has not yet broken through the limitations of traditional empirical design, such as the determination of structural topology, selection of shape, and optimization of structural size parameters. This article explores the commonly used methods of structural optimization design, with a focus on introducing topology optimization theory and its applications. It takes the structural optimization design of a certain type of fuel pump component as the research object, in order to provide some theoretical reference for future fuel pump structural design optimization. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

With the rapid progress of the automotive industry, intelligence and digitalization have become the key driving forces for the design of automotive instrument display modules. This paper presents a design scheme of automotive instrument display module based on embedded system, aiming at improving the visual effect and user interaction experience of the instrument. through the systematic analysis of traditional automobile instrument, combined with modern embedded technology and high-performance display technology, a display module with high integration and various functions is designed. The module uses a high-resolution liquid crystal display (LCD) to support real-time display of a variety of information, including key parameters such as vehicle speed, speed, fuel level and engine temperature. In addition, the module integrates intelligent data processing algorithms to achieve dynamic information processing and fault diagnosis through high-precision sensors to improve driving safety and reliability. In the design process, the user interaction experience is fully considered, and the human-machine interface (HMI) is optimized to ensure that the information display is intuitive and easy to understand. The experimental results show that the design has excellent performance in information response delay, display clarity and user feedback satisfaction, etc., which meets the high performance standard of modern automobile instrument display module. The research results of this paper provide a system reference for the future design of automobile intelligent instrument, which has important theoretical depth and practical application value. © 2024 IEEE.

integration of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) into the early stages of a new reactor design project can provide valuable information concerning risk insights for safe, reliable operation and can identify potential vulnerabilities that can be mitigated prior to plant construction through design enhancements. Regulatory requirements in the US and in other countries have included the development of a PRA including demonstration of how it was used to improve the design to support licensing approval. However, developing PRA models early in the design process poses unique challenges as compared to developing models for an existing plant. Four major categories of challenges are specifically discussed: 1. Availability of sufficient design details to develop a meaningful model. 2. Availability of engineering, thermal-hydraulic, and radiological consequence analyses involving system and plant response during plant transients and accident conditions. 3. Identification of a full spectrum of PRA initiating events, particularly for non-LWR designs 4. Modeling of passive design features, which are typically key elements of advanced reactor designs. Examples of these types of challenges are discussed, as are possible approaches for developing reasonable assumptions for incomplete data, involving the design team members more closely into the PRA process, and devising processes to gradually replace initial assumptions with actual design details and analyses in subsequent PRA updates as the design process progresses. © 2024 Proceedings of Advanced Reactor Safety, ARS 2024. We propose a new methodology that harnesses recent advancements in AI techniques to formulate an AI-facilitating code learning cycle for students. The approach builds on an existing learning process and innovatively incorporates pair programming into the learning cycle. It first transforms the example code into scaffold code as exercises through an instructor-AI pairing. The scaffold code serves as an exercise for students to complete and debug on a hardware platform iteratively with an expert AI assistant. This design alleviates instructors' burden of crafting new exercises for new scenarios and offers students the advantage of interactive learning with scenario diversity. We evaluate the methodology using a suite of example codes and assess the semantic similarity among different code versions produced by AI assistants. The case study shows promising results of the methodology. We further discuss our findings and outline future work for the proposed methodology.

In a steam turbine blade row, leakage flows through the radial clearance between the shroud at the tip of the blade and the sealing fins resulting in a reduction in efficiency, known as leakage loss. During turbine operation, radial clearances are affected by various factors such as thermal deformation resulting in elongation difference between the rotor and casing, deflection due to the rotor's weight, and changes in the state of the bearing oil film. The design strategy commonly adopted to reduce the amount of leakage flow includes: reducing seal fin tip clearance, increasing the number of seal fins, etc... All these countermeasures are implemented while satisfying the clearance under operating conditions. Besides the leakage flow, another source of losses to be reduced is the difference in circumferential velocity component between the main flow leaving the moving blade passage, and the flow coming out of the shroud cavity of these same blades. The focus in recent years has been on reducing this flow discrepancy, also called mixing loss. It should however be noted that the situation is different for reaction and impulse turbines. Generally, as the shroud cavity circumferential velocity after a stationary blade passage is slower than that after a nozzle passage, reducing the problematic velocity component coming out of the shroud cavity in a reaction turbine will not be as effective as it would be for an impulse turbine. A final point to consider is manufacturability. Structures installed to correct the shroud cavity outflow in the axial direction often require non-axis-symmetrical geometries, hardly machined by just the use of a vertical lathe. Considering the background above, the research presented in this paper focused on investigating the shroud cavity shape suitable for leakage flow reduction. An improved shroud cavity shape was developed and the mechanism used by this new design to reduce leakage flow by using the generated counter vortex is discussed.

Industry 5.0 focuses on human-system collaboration and a more integrated approach to manufacturing and services. Digital twin is a technological advancement positioned to propel Industry 5.0 by making way for newer implementations and greater cyber-physical connections within a system. Digital twins will lead the way as Industry 5.0 encourages a closer integration of digital and physical systems. They will act as a link between the digital and physical worlds, giving each, real-time information and insights. Within Industry 5.0, digital twins are essential for establishing communication between the digital and physical realms as well as for facilitating human-autonomous system cooperation and cohabitation. Industry 5.0 highlights the requirement for adaptable manufacturing to satisfy specific client needs. Manufacturing processes can be swiftly and effectively adjusted with the use of digital twins. Industry 5.0 relies heavily on digital twins to help businesses adapt to the changing manufacturing environment and use data-driven insights to increase productivity, flexibility, and human-robot collaboration. The aspects of industry such as the commissioning and the automation of the Industrial Work floor processes are to be integrated with the digital twin. The digital twin allows for the virtual commissioning and integration of humans through interactive mixed reality that transcends the user experience making the process of integration and data (instruction) transfer seamless. The main focus of the paper was on utilizing the digital twin for the connection of various aspects of an industrial factory to establish control and real time monitoring for a Cyber-physical system. The digital Twin of a material handling system was developed and used for virtual commissioning and Mixed Reality integration and exploration.

Despite the growing integration of Generative AI (GenAI) in UX design, its role in facilitating Journey Map (JM) creation remains insufficiently explored. In this paper, we focus on the development process of GeneyMAP, a GenAI-empowered design tool that aims to streamline the JM creation process. Starting with a formative study, we identified eight essential functions necessary for common JM creation. These functions were further refined through a co-design session involving six UX design experts, who were all familiar with GenAI applications, focusing on effectively integrating GenAI to optimize these functions within the JM creation workflow. This collaboration led to the design of the functional prototype of GeneyMAP. This study delineates a replicable process for embedding GenAI in design tools, offering insights into its effective integration into the JM creation process. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper majorly focuses on the developing an IP i.e., a 32-bit MAC in Verilog HDL using Vedic multiplier along with CSA and implementation of design using ASIC flow. This is a combinational circuit designed through a hierarchical approach, promoting modular and scalable architectures, reducing redesigns and integration time. An ancient Vedic principles-based Multiplier is used with a Carry Save Adder which will reduce the complexities to keep the design simpler and efficient. The simulation of the MAC unit is performed in Cadence Xcelium. The key differentiator of this unit is that it is implemented using ASIC flow on Cadence tools like Genus and Innovus which is the physical design process using the technology library of 45nm. There is an effective execution of floor planning which is crucial to minimize the physical layout's overall area and optimal use of power. There was detailed analysis conducted to obtain better results on the previously published similar designs. In the physical design implementation process the MAC unit is synthesized and floorplanning is performed along with placement of the design. Further routing is performed to ensure physical connections between the gates are created while minimizing total wirelength, meeting timing requirements, and avoiding violations of design rules. © 2024 IEEE.

Text-to-image or 3D content generation has attracted attention in academia and industry because of its impressive performance in high-fidelity content generation with natural language commands. However, its widespread application in industrial computation-aided design (CAD) is not yet found. The main issue lies in the end-to-end generation through implicit probabilistic learning from datasets. This presents difficulties in precise, controllable, and transparent creations. Also, it is time-consuming and labor-intensive for designers to verify and customize the generated result to fit their demands. Furthermore, popular generative models offer limited support for early-stage engineering computations, leaving tedious and massive calculations to human engineers. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a method to apply large language model (LLM) to assist standard CAD design workflow on both engineering computation and precise 3D geometry generation. During the designing process, LLM can support the computation process with human guidance and generate accurate 3D shapes with the capability of sequential code representation and transformation. To verify the feasibility of the proposed method, a use case for a one-stage reduction gear system consisting of two gears will be given as a proof-of-concept demonstration. The result shows that the LLM can carry out the computation and get the result as expected with only a few lines of human guidance and feedback. Then, it can create CAD models with accurate parameters aligned to the computational results. It can cope with various requirements given by users and allow users to further modify the generation using the same CAD environment without much effort. Authors believe that this piece of work can shed light on utilizing the capability of LLMs for a certain part of task automation based on human beings' intentions.
