Sr2AlTaO6: Ni2+phosphors with excellent IQE and thermal stability as NIR-ii source for night vision, nonvisual detection, and far-field imaging

Near-infrared (NIR) technologies can provide remote, real-time and non-invasive detection, and have been used in spectroscopic analysis, biometrics, food quality inspection, healthcare and night vision monitoring. NIR phosphor-conversion light-emitting diodes (NIR pc-LED) as a practical NIR light source have the advantages of low-cost to manufacture, high energy efficient, broadband emission, and compact sizes. The family of Ni2+ doped phosphors are known to emit broadband NIR in the second region (NIR-ii, 1000- 1600 nm). However, Ni2+- doped NIR phosphors with high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) and good thermal stability are still in demand. In this work, we prepared Ni2+-doped Sr2AlTaO6 phosphor by a high temperature solid phase method, which under the excitation of 360 nm near-ultraviolet light, emit NIR-ii that covers 1000- 1600 nm, peaks at-1160 nm, has a full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of-180 nm. This phosphor showed excellent IQE of-44.61 % and the luminescence intensity measured at 423 K was 70.5 % of that measured at room temperature. We prepared a NIR pc-LED device using the Sr2AlTaO6: Ni2+ phosphor and a commercially available high-efficiency near-ultraviolet chip. The NIR-ii output power and electro-optical conversion efficiency of the device at a driving current of 300 mA reached 138.56 mW and 12.83 %, respectively. Under the irradiation of this NIR light source, potential applications of night vision, nonvisual detection, and far-field imaging were captured under dark, demonstrating a broad application prospects for this NIR luminescent material of this study has broad development prospects and important application value in the field of NIR source imaging.

Food quality and safety have been critical issues in the world. There is an urgent need for a fast, simple, selective, and inexpensive food detection method for the identification of the degree of food spoilage. As a molecular analysis tool, Raman spectroscopy has the advantages of high selectivity, accurate analysis, simple operation, and low sample consumption. This paper reports a novel remote fiber optic Raman sensor for real-time application in food spoilage detection. Eight volatile organic compounds (VOC) liquids that typically generated by corrupted food were under-tested. The proposed sensor successfully captures the back-scattered Raman spectra for all testing samples with various dilution levels. Multiple machine learning algorithms are also applied to further analyze the correlation between Raman spectra and molecules in spoiled foods by diluting chemical samples. As a result of combining with Raman spectroscopy and machine learning algorithm, the remote fiber optic Raman probe allows qualitative measurements of VOC samples at 100-fold dilution. In comparison with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), the remote fiber optic Raman sensor allows for direct Raman spectroscopy detection without sample and SERS substrate preparation, which opens a new chapter on the nondestructive and sensitive detection of food analytes.

Taking Yuehai Lake Wetland in Yinchuan City, Ningxia as the research object, based on Landsat-8 image data, combined with the detection values of water quality parameters taken in the field, a remote sensing water quality parameter inversion model was established, and the concentrations of four water quality parameters of chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus and total nitrogen were inverted, and the concentration of water quality parameters was comprehensively analyzed and evaluated by entropy weight fuzzy method. The results show that the established inversion model can reflect the parameter concentration distribution of Yuehai Lake water quality in different areas. The fitting degree R2 of the four water quality index inversion models of chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus and total nitrogen were 0.88, 0.89, 0.87 and 0.9, respectively;spatially, the pollution of the parameters in the north of Yuehai Lake is more serious than that in the south. The comprehensive evaluation results of water quality showed that the water quality of Yuehai Lake was mainly Class ii and Class iiI water quality. © 2023 SPIE.

The SIMAGAZ gas monitoring camera was deployed during the IPOMAC and MANIFEST campaigns in 2021 and 2022. These measurement campaigns were carried out several miles off the west coast of France as part of the response to pollution at sea. Various chemicals, legally classified as HNS (Hazardous Noxious Substances), were released on the sea surface and SIMAGAZ measurements were made from the ship and by air. The camera data processing is based on a physical radiometric model, a spectroscopic database containing the compounds of interest and includes a morphological analysis of the images. SIMAGAZ has thus enabled the detection, identification and quantification of several gases evaporating from spilled slicks (acetone, butyl acetate, propyl acetate, MTBE and heptane), sometimes for over half an hour. For other products with absorption lines outside the SIMAGAZ spectral range, no gas was seen as expected. On the basis of this success, the analysis of the concentration fields obtained and their dynamics can be compared with the results of evaporation and atmospheric dispersion modelling tools for HNS. © 2024 SPIE.

Infrared technology can provide a wealth of information related to biological and chemical hazards in the environment. However, this technology mostly exists in the form of bulky instrumentation on optical benches in academic laboratories. We discuss the transition of IR sensing to various points-of- need applications, including food and water safety, bioreactor process control and chemical analysis of drinking water. In particular, in remote locations the access to clean drinking water is critical to soldiers' health. Mid-infrared spectroscopy is a powerful tool for identification and quantification of a wide range of common organic and inorganic compounds. In this contribution we present data demonstrating proof-of-concept of a quantum cascade laser (QCL)-based infrared sensor for evaluation of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (TIMs) and discuss the path for development of miniaturized, point-of-need IR photonic integrated circuits (IR-PIC).

One of the most important fiber and cash crops of India is cotton, which plays a dominant role in the industrial and agricultural economy of the country. The basic raw material for the cotton industry is the cotton fiber. However, the cotton cultivation globally faces severe pest challenges, causing significant yield losses annually. This work proposes an innovative solution of integrating advanced technology with ecoconsciousness to combat cotton pests effectively. Utilizing YOLOv8 machine learning and IoT devices like ESP32-CAM, our system enables real- time pest identification and targeted trapping. Smart traps, activated upon detection, reduce reliance on chemical pesticides. Extensive field testing and data augmentation demonstrate the model's accuracy and adaptability. Early pest detection and precise management promise increased yields and profitability while advocating sustainable farming practices. This work serves as a pioneering example of technology- driven ecological solutions, promoting economic stability and environmental preservation.

In the past few decades, environmental pollution problems have become more and more serious because of development of modern industry and science technology. The real-time detection and identification of atmospheric pollutants, has aroused widespread concern. Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technology has become a common method for atmospheric remote sensing pollution measurement. 9 similar to 11-mu m-band lasers have small scattering cross sections for the air pollution cloud particles, so the laser output energy is required to reach the Joule level. The system engineering is difficult to realize detection of air pollution clouds with technology. The developed remote sensing pollution detection system is used to detect the types, concentration, orientation and distance information of common industrial chemical pollution. It is mainly divided into two parts: DIAL channel and Front Range Detecting Lidar (FRDL) channel. This paper mainly discusses remote sensing of air pollution clouds using FRDL. The working principle of FRDL is to use the Doppler effect of aerosol on the laser backward Mie scattering to realize the measurement of the aerosol cloud. In July 2017, the verification test was completed at a certain place in the north of China. The simulated pollutant spraying device and sampler were set at 400m in front of the 5km target. The measured results are in agreement with the actual situation.

We are developing the remote measurement system for detecting harmful substances such as nitrogen dioxide and chemical materials using the resonance Raman scattering effect. Although the most remote measurement systems were designed to use the light from ultraviolet to visible wavelengths region, the characteristic Raman spectra of complex materials were observed in deep-ultraviolet (DUV) wavelengths region. The development of the standoff detection system by measuring the DUV light contributes to identify the various materials remotely. In this study, the design results of the Raman scattering light receiving equipment (light receiving system) consisting of telescope, relay optical system and spectrometer were considered. The optical design of the light receiving system was performed based on the estimation model of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the ray tracing method. The important parameters (the attenuation of the laser pulse and Raman light in the atmosphere, the amplification factor of the scattering cross section in DUV wavelength region etc.) are included in the model, and SNR of the Raman spectrum can be evaluated by changing each parameter. The estimation results suggest that SNR depends strongly on the reflectance of mirror and the amplification factor of the scattering cross section in DUV wavelength region. The durability test of the mirror has been performed to evaluate the use in outdoor. The results show that the mirrors with high reflectance in DUV wavelength region have enough tolerance to the temperature change and the scratch.
