In an OpenFlow network, the controller is responsible to control and manage the whole network. Although such central control paradigm is easier to achieve efficient network resources usage, the controller becomes the bottleneck when the network size is large. In this paper, we propose using pre-provisioned paths to mitigate the burden on a controller. The basic idea is to setup some background paths in the network. When an ordinary flow coming into the network, the controller only needs to setups flow entries at the ingress and egress switches. An admitted flow follows a preplanned path toward its destination. Except the ingress and egress switches, the flow entries in the remaining switches on the path kept unchanged. Since routing paths for ordinary flows are pre-planned, the whole admission and connection setup process are simplified. Jointly considering load balancing, network survivability, fast failure recovery, and flow entry consumption are the major challenges in this problem. The contribution of this paper includes two parts. First, we propose a path preplanning scheme that takes advantage of interface specific forwarding (ISF) to resolve the problem. We formulate the path preplanning problem as an integer linear programming problem. optimization based heuristic algorithms are proposed to obtain a near optimal solution. In the second contribution, we propose a software based failure detection and failure location identification scheme. Since some existing switches take longer time to detect a network failure, a reliable lightweight software based failure detection scheme that can fast pinpoint the failure location is needed. We have performed simulations and experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes. The experimental results indicate that the proposed software failure detection scheme generates very limited overhead on the OpenFlow controller. It can be used to achieve fast failure recovery even when the network is in heavy load state

Constraint-based reconstruction and analysis (COBRA) provides a molecular mechanistic framework for integrative analysis of experimental molecular systems biology data and quantitative prediction of physicochemically and biochemically feasible phenotypic states. The COBRA Toolbox is a comprehensive desktop software suite of interoperable COBRA methods. It has found widespread application in biology, biomedicine, and biotechnology because its functions can be flexibly combined to implement tailored COBRA protocols for any biochemical network. This protocol is an update to the COBRA Toolbox v.1.0 and v.2.0. Version 3.0 includes new methods for quality-controlled reconstruction, modeling, topological analysis, strain and experimental design, and network visualization, as well as network integration of chemoinformatic, metabolomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and thermochemical data. New multi-lingual code integration also enables an expansion in COBRA application scope via high-precision, high-performance, and nonlinear numerical optimization solvers for multi-scale, multi-cellular, and reaction kinetic modeling, respectively. This protocol provides an overview of all these new features and can be adapted to generate and analyze constraint-based models in a wide variety of scenarios. The COBRA Toolbox v.3.0 provides an unparalleled depth of COBRA methods.

Within the ADICOL research project, we have developed a control-loop application for the automated delivery of insulin. The concept is unique in several aspects: a) Modularity: the ADICOL system consists of three elements, insulin pump, glucose monitor and expert-system, which all run as stand alone devices with the patient, but can be interconnected to form a body network. b) Subcutaneous Application: Both, glucose monitor and insulin delivery use the subcutaneous route to the body. c) Insulin Pump: The insulin infusion mimics a natural pancreas by employing a delivery interval of 3 minutes. d) Expert System: The expert system is running two different algorithms in a hand-held computer, taking advantage of the high-resolution insulin delivery. e) Algorithm: The Model-Predictive Algorithm is based on a feedback optimization of the insulin infusion rate and physiological parameters of the patient. f) Glucose Monitor: Our glucose monitor is based on the open-flow microperfusion sampling technique and employs amperometric glucose biosensors. g) Body Network: The interconnection of the 3 elements to form a control-loop system (or automated pancreas) is achieved by modern wireless technology. Various clinical tests have been undertaken to assess the performance of subsets, results will be shown. We present the overall set-up and its performance, and show latest results from various clinical human trials performed at the Universities of Graz, Austria and Perugia, Italy.

The third generation of Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS3) achieves 22% coding performance improvement compared with high Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). However, the improvement of encoding efficiency comes from a more flexible block partition scheme is at the cost of much higher encoding complexity. This paper proposes a bottom-up fast algorithm to prune the time-consuming search process of the CU partition tree. To be specific, we design a scoring mechanism based on the splitting patterns traced back from the bottom to predict the possibility of a partition type to be selected as optimal. The score threshold to skip the exhaustive Rate-Distortion optimization (RDO) procedure of the partition type is determined by statistical analysis. The experimental results show that the proposed methods can achieve 24.56% time-saving with 0.37% BDBR loss under Random Access configuration and 12.50% complexity reduction with 0.08% BDBR loss under All Intra configuration. The effectiveness leads to the adoption by the open-source platform of AVS3 after evaluated by the AVS working group.

Image synthesis and generation is an important research direction in the fields of computer vision and deep learning. These generative models not only enrich visual content and reduce acquisition difficulty, but also provide training support for model algorithms through high-quality data augmentation; Innovation in lineage simulation and multimedia content production can also be achieved, and image generation technology shows great commercial potential. This article uses diffusion models in technology and studies how to improve the quality of generated images, control model generation results, and accelerate image generation speed. By using model fusion technology and combining the advantages of different image generation models, the diversity and realism of generated images are improved, while adding conditional constraints to control the generation results of the model. Through a series of carefully designed experiments, the method adopted has been tested and validated in practice, achieving significant performance improvements and revealing the operational mechanism of image generation models under specific conditions and constraints.

This full research paper describes a multimodal approach to detect student engagement in an e-learning scenario. Remote learning has transformed access to education and helped reshape learning by offering students expanded access to resources, while also enabling educators to reach several new demographics. It has rightly been identified as one of the Grand Challenges for improving life on our planet. Unfortunately, gauging learner engagement has remained a significant challenge, limiting improvements and optimization of teaching methods. Machine Learning (ML), despite being an underutilized tool in the domain of e-learning, holds substantial potential for the real-time recognition of students' behavioral patterns, thereby helping provide personalized feedback to educators. This research paper aims to explore the potential of ML to compare multiple modalities such as facial action units (AUs), gaze vectors, and emotion indicators. AUs and gaze vectors are derived from the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), a comprehensive system developed to represent human facial movements. Detection of emotions is accomplished by employing a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) that has been pre-trained on the AffectNet image database. A deep neural network model that combines these multiple modalities is finally used to estimate student engagement. Its performance is evaluated on the University of Massachusetts Amherst / Boston University student engagement dataset. The performance of the neural network model is characterized over a number of epochs to improve its bias-variance performance, thereby optimizing the model's overall accuracy. The performance of each modality is first explored. We then demonstrate the effectiveness of the multimodal approach, showcasing its potential. A thorough understanding of the induction machine parameters is necessary for practically all applications’ control techniques in order to maintain high-quality dynamic and steady-state drive performance. However, as it directly affects the effectiveness of the control systems, the higher accuracy of IM parameters is crucial for all industrial processes. Out of the five electrical parameters ($R_{\mathrm{s}},\ R_{\mathrm{r}},\ X_{\mathrm{s}},\ X_{\mathrm{r}}$, and $X_{\mathrm{m}}$), only four parameters, $R_{\mathrm{s}},\ R_{\mathrm{r}},\ X_{\mathrm{s}}$, and $X_{\mathrm{m}}$, can be independently estimated by the parameter estimation algorithms disclosed in the current literature, while the core loss resistance $R_{\mathrm{f}\mathrm{e}}$ is ignored. The method for predicting induction machine parameters during startup is presented in this study without the use of any assumptions. Two instantaneous voltage and current waveforms recorded during a direct startup are used to estimate the parameters. The six electrical parameters of the IM (Rs, Rr, Rfe, Xs, Xr, and Xm) can all be independently determined using the suggested parameter estimating approach utilized in this study. The weight of computing is also a significant issue for real-time data processing. This work offers a less time-consuming approach based on QPSO-TRA approach to address these issues. The suggested approach involves transforming the drawbacks of earlier algorithms to create a trustworthy hybrid algorithm to discover all IM parameters devoid of any assumptions. Comparing this hybrid method to the traditional genetic algorithm (GA), the computation load can be cut in 1/3. A 5. 5kW induction motor was used to assess the effectiveness of the suggested strategy using the Matlab software program.

Massive multiple input multiple output (m-MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) has emerged as a viable technology to enhance the throughput of an existing VLC based systems in order to serve the high speed data requirement for beyond 5G and 6G communication systems. However, performance of m-MIMO VLC is severely impaired by (1) columns of m-MIMO VLC channel are highly correlated which makes the channel matrix ill-conditioned, and (2) nonlinear transfer-characteristics of light emitting diode (LED). The aforementioned channel impairments collectively degrade the overall bit error rate (BER) at the receiver. In this paper, finite memory budget adaptive precoder is proposed to decrease the channel correlation/condition number of MIMO channel matrix. Reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) based post-distorters have been proposed in the literature for VLC which rely on growing dictionary of kernel evaluations, and hence it is difficult to practically implement them under finite memory budget. In this paper, random Fourier features (RFF) based kernel least mean square (RFF - KLMS) algorithm is proposed for post-distortion over m-MIMO VLC channels which alleviates the requirement of dictionary and facilitates post-distortion under finite memory budget. Computer simulations performed over m-MIMO VLC channels show that the proposed RFF based algorithm exhibit similar BER performance with reduced computational complexity as compared to the dictionary based post-distortion algorithm.

The Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET), which are essentially the subset of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) have been focused in the recent years mainly for the research and development of the Intelligent Transport Systems having the ability for both self-management and also self-organization, making them reliable as a highly mobile network system Also, the disconnection of such high mobile nodes will be a problem in VANET structure, where the loss of information will be critical because the vehicles/nodes in a VANET can move at a speed of 300 km/h or 186.41 miles/h. The protocols suggested earlier used a fixed topology for the mobile nodes in VANET. Even though the scientists had proposed different algorithms like beaconing, greedy or moving directional approach, the environmental changes were ignored which usually play an important criterion in regulation of information. In this paper, we propose a bio-inspired meta-heuristic and mathematically probabilistic technique of the Ant Colony optimization (ACO) where efficient path establishment and information transfer can be achieved. Path availability and the delay time have been used for the evaluation of discovered paths. But, here the real time environmental changes were taken into account and the performance was measured in accordance with ACO. The technical software for VANET implementation using modifications in the ACO was implemented in the Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB)-2015b simulator along with the different randomized changes in environmental conditions. The random movements of the ants have displayed an efficient means for the delivery of packets to the maximum number of available nodes/vehicles in the network with very low latency. So that even if accidental failure of any node occurs, the surrounding ant neighbors will carry the required information to the desired nodes resulting in improvement of the throughput.
