This paper presents a new approach to image-based visual servoing (IBVS) for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) with the goal of improved performance and computational efficiency. Traditional IBVS methods, when combined with Model Predictive Control (MPC), face high computational demands due to the nonlinear dynamics and the large degrees of freedom (DOFs) in the variables of the associated optimization problem. Our method addresses this by reducing the DOFs of the optimization variable in the cost function while maintaining a good control performance. To further consider the smoothness of the MPC control signal, a soft constraint handling method is developed. The fast nonlinear MPC, combined with smoother control trajectories and effective constraint handling, makes our method particularly suitable for AUV IBVS applications in dynamic environments. Comparisons with standard strategies confirm the improved performance of our approach in terms of both speed and trajectory quality. Simulation results show that our approach can achieve an improved computation up to 100 times faster than conventional MPC-based IBVS methods, which highlights the great potential for real-time IBVS applications.

Considering the challenges posed by the dung beetle optimization algorithm, which often gravitates towards local optimality and disproportionate global exploration and local development potentials, a fusion strategy driven dung beetle optimization algorithm (FSDDBO) is proposed. Firstly, the piecewise linear chaotic map (PWLCM) is used to initialize the population, so that the dung beetle population can better traverse the entire solution space;secondly, an improved spiral search strategy is added in the dung beetle breeding stage to accelerate the convergence speed and improve individual diversity;finally, a competitive reverse learning strategy is added in the dung beetle stealing stage to increase the randomness of the dung beetle and update the existing worldwide most unfavorable solution. In 11 benchmark function tests and comparisons with other algorithms, the method proposed in this research improves the algorithm's capacity to leap beyond its local optimum, ensuring strong robustness and precision in optimization, achieving good results. © 2024 SPIE.

Miniature Structure optimization of Small-Diameter FBG-Based One-Dimensional Optical Fiber Vibration Sensor

We proposed a miniature one-dimensional vibration sensor based on a small-diameter fiber Bragg grating in this paper. The working principle and theoretical model of the FBG vibration sensor were deduced and established theoretically. A genetic algorithm has been used to globally optimize the nonlinear programming problem of sensor size and sensitivity. The modal analysis of the vibration sensor was carried out by using finite element software to verify the feasibility of the optimization results. Then metal 3D printing was utilized to realize the integrated processing and miniaturization of the sensor. The experimental results show that the natural frequency of the sensor packaged with the small-diameter FBG is 1949.5Hz, and the sensor has a good working state in the frequency range of 5-1300Hz. The sensitivity and the linearity of the optimized sensor are 65.42 pm/g and 99.997% at the frequency of 100Hz, respectively. Through the comparative experiments, it can be found that the small-diameter FBG presents an obvious sensitization effect compared to the ordinary FBG with a 118.3% sensitivity improvement. This optimization theory is promising in multi-dimension, high performance, and microminiaturization optical vibration sensor design and fabrication.

Modeling and simulation technology of biological reaction is the important method of theoretical studies and production control. However the greatest technical difficulties of biological reaction modeling is how to identify and discuss the undetermined parameters existing in the complex system by analyzing limited experimental data to look for an intelligent optimization algorithm that can optimize multivariable and mult-extremum high dimensional nonlinear functions effectively. This thesis took the fed-batch fermentation model in the penicillin industrial production for example, based on the industrial control rolling simulation software, discussed the application characteristics and their improvement of the real model of four widely used optimization algorithms: Simplex Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Algorithm and Particle Swarm optimization. Lastly, the thesis proposed a new combined optimization algorithm Genetic-simplex Algorithm by analyzing the complementarity of SIM and GA. Proved by the results of industrial rolling simulation this algorithm has combined the advantages of Simplex Algorithm and Genetic Algorithm, possessing excellent optimization ability. © 2011 IEEE.

A novel and successful optical-digital approach for removing certain aberrations in imaging systems involves placing an optical mask between an image-recording device and an object to encode the wavefront phase before the image is recorded, followed by digital image deconvolution to decode the phase. We have observed that when appropriately engineered, such an optical mask can also act as a form of preconditioner for certain deconvolution algorithms. It can boost information in the signal before it is recorded well above the noise level, leveraging digital restorations of very high quality. In this paper, we 1) examine the influence that a phase mask has on the incoming signal and how it subsequently affects the performance of restoration algorithms, and 2) explore the design of optical masks, a difficult nonlinear optimization problem with multiple design parameters, for removing certain aberrations and for maximizing restorability and information in recorded images.

In this paper we develop a simulation setup for testing and analyzing cooperative maneuvers and corresponding control algorithms. We also find feasible initial sets using backwards reachable set computations for the cooperative control problem, which we then test using the simulation setup. The particular example considered is a cooperative rendezvous between a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle and a unmanned ground vehicle. The open-source software FlightGear and JSBSim are used for the vehicle dynamics, enabling testing of algorithms in a realistic environment. The aircraft models include nonlinear, state-dependent dynamics, making it possible to capture complex behaviors like stall and spin. Moreover, environmental effects such as wind gusts and turbulence are directly integrated into the simulations. From the simulations we get a comprehensive understanding of the controller performance and feasibility when tested in a real-time scenario. Results from several landing simulations are presented, and demonstrate that the MPC solution for the cooperative rendezvous problem is a promising method also for use in complex, safety-critical systems.

Dynamic multiobjective optimization problems (DMOPs) usually contain multiple conflicting objectives that change over time, which requires the optimization algorithms to quickly track the Pareto optimal front (POF) when the environment changes. In recent years, transfer learning (TL)-based methods have been considered promising in solving DMOPs. However, most existing TL-based methods are computationally extensive and therefore time-consuming. In this paper, a clustering based autoencoding for DMOEA, called CAE-DMOEA, is proposed, which aims to generate a high-quality initial population to accelerate the evolutionary process and improve the optimization performance. In particular, by learning the mapping relationship between the regional centroids of the approximate Pareto-optimal solutions (POS) from the previous two environments, the CAE-DMOEA can effectively predict the regional centroids of the POS in the new environment, which helps to tracking the moving POS and enhance the optimization efficiency. To study the performance of the proposed method, extensive experiments have been carried out by comparing three state-of-the-art DMOEAs. The experimental results show that the overall performance of the CAE-DMOEA is superior to that of the compared algorithms. © 2022 IEEE.

We study optimization problems on a continuous decision space using the Ordinal Transformation framework. The original method was proposed to exploit the advantages of bi-fidelity simulation models, so observations from the low-fidelity can efficiently guide sampling on the high-fidelity model. However, this framework only worked on a discrete decision space. We extend the framework to continuous cases and through preliminary analysis, we show promising performance and present future research directions.

This paper focuses on the acceleration of QuantumSkynet, a high-dimensional quantum computing simulator. QuantumSkynet enables operations with qudits (generalized quantum bits), by executing quantum circuits, which are fundamentally based on tensor products and Kronecker operations. However, these integral functions within the simulator are currently not optimized. The proposed acceleration method involves a combination of hardware and software enhancements. Hardware acceleration will be achieved through the use of graphical processing units (GPUs) and multicore processing units, while software acceleration will be implemented via the Eigen library. These enhancements can significantly improve the performance of QuantumSkynet, with speedups of up to 100x. This makes it possible to simulate larger quantum systems and algorithms, which is essential for the development of practical quantum computing applications. For example, the proposed method could be used to accelerate the simulation of quantum systems with many qubits, or quantum algorithms with numerous steps. The results of this study suggest that the proposed method can be used to accelerate the performance of future high-dimensional quantum computing simulators and to enable the development of practical quantum computing applications.

The objective of this paper is the development of a multi-criteria optimization framework for the simultaneous calibration of demand and supply parameters in DTA. The presented approach estimates origin-destination (OD) flows and calibrates the driver behavioral and route choice parameters in a complex network modeled in Paramics microscopic traffic simulation model. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is chosen as the solution method for solving the stochastic nonlinear optimization problem. A high-performance computing cluster is used to run GA in parallel computer processing engines. The application of the framework on a large case-study network showed that the incorporation of speed data from in-vehicle navigation systems improves significantly the calibration performance in terms of improved accuracy of estimated counts and speed. In addition, the incorporation of speed data makes the calibration problem less dependent on the starting OD flows. Finally, the application of a distributed GA was shown to significantly reduce the computational time of the calibration of DTA systems. © 2013 IEEE.
