With the continuous evolution of cloud computing technology, the memory requirements of cloud servers are increasing. Insufficient memory has become the performance bottleneck of many applications. Memory disaggregation has been proposed to solve this problem, which enables computing nodes to utilize the memory of remote memory nodes, thus not only effectively extending the capacity of logical memory, but also significantly improving the resource utilization and elasticity of the whole cluster, providing a more flexible resource allocation scheme for large-scale parallel computing and data processing. However, most of the existing memory disaggregation systems require modification of hardware, operating systems or applications, which are difficult to use. This paper proposes a high-performance memory disaggregation system SwiftSwap, which can directly access remote memory without any modification of hardware, operating system, or application. We design and implement a high performance cache, cache lookup algorithm LDA and cache elimination strategy RM_AwareLRU on the computing node to improve the performance of the system. Through comprehensive evaluation, SwiftSwap has up to 5.1× performance advantage in throughput, 4.8× performance advantage in tail delay, and 6.4× performance advantage against applications running in containers. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.

Decoupling lighting from geometry using unconstrained photo collections is notoriously challenging. Solving it would benefit many users as creating complex 3D assets takes days of manual labor. Many previous works have attempted to address this issue, often at the expense of output fidelity, which questions the practicality of such methods. We introduce LumiGauss - a technique that tackles 3D reconstruction of scenes and environmental lighting through 2D Gaussian Splatting. Our approach yields high-quality scene reconstructions and enables realistic lighting synthesis under novel environment maps. We also propose a method for enhancing the quality of shadows, common in outdoor scenes, by exploiting spherical harmonics properties. Our approach facilitates seamless integration with game engines and enables the use of fast precomputed radiance transfer. We validate our method on the NeRF-OSR dataset, demonstrating superior performance over baseline methods. Moreover, LumiGauss can synthesize realistic images for unseen environment maps. Real-time intraocular pressure (IOP) nondestructive testing (NDT) plays an irreplaceable role in many fields, and the core of the technology is to build a high-performance IOP sensor. In order to fill the gap of portable real-time IOP monitoring equipment in the industry, a kind of IOP sensor based on flexible sensing technology is developed in this paper. In this paper, the Wheatstone bridge IOP sensor is prepared by using laser marking and face to face water transfer technology, and the signal is collected by NFC chip (NHS 3152, NXP) and transmitted to mobile phone APP through antenna for wireless communication. The performance of the IOP sensor reached the sensitivity of 3.1mV/mmHg in the pressure rise stage and 2.8274mV/mmHg in the descending stage. The linear correlation between the two stages was very strong, and the linearity R2 was as high as 0.99698. The performance showed the same effect in the test of pig eye in vitro. The results of performance comparison show that the sensor can maintain good performance under more complex IOP fluctuations, and the optimal power supply form is determined. The sensor has passed the biological activity test and meets the current scientific research and commercial standards in the industry. © 2023 IEEE.

Since the advent of decentralized financial applications based on blockchains, new attacks that take advantage of manipulating the order of transactions have emerged. To this end, order fairness protocols are devised to prevent such order manipulations. However, existing order fairness protocols adopt time-consuming mechanisms that bring huge computation overheads and defer the finalization of transactions to the following rounds, eventually compromising system performance. In this work, we present Auncel, a novel consensus protocol that achieves both order fairness and high performance. Auncel leverages a weight-based strategy to order transactions, enabling all transactions in a block to be committed within one consensus round, without cost computation and further delays. Furthermore, Auncel achieves censorship resistance by integrating the consensus protocol with the fair ordering strategy, ensuring all transactions can be ordered fairly. To reduce the overheads introduced by the fair ordering strategy, we also design optimization mechanisms, including dynamic transaction compression and adjustable replica proposal strategy. We implement a prototype of Auncel based on HotStuff and construct extensive experiments. Experimental results show that Auncel can increase the throughput by 6x and reduce the confirmation latency by 3x compared with state-of-the-art order fairness protocols.

Fingerprint liveness detection (FLD) has achieved promising results with the support of a large number of fingerprint data. However, fingerprints involve user privacy, and it is difficult to obtain a large number of fingerprints. Consequently, when fingerprints are scarce or limited, the performance of FLD significantly reduced. Moreover, the performance of existing methods in cross-sensor detection tends to be unsatisfactory when confronted with diverse fingerprint acquisition devices, owing to disparities in their imaging mechanisms. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel FLD method based on few-shot incremental learning with EMD metric (FIL-FLD). First, to enhance the discrimination between fingerprints, we introduce a class feature-Centric few-shot learning method with Earth Mover's Distance (EMD) metric, which mitigates the issue of low accuracy due to insufficient fingerprint samples. Next, to improve the detection performance of FLD for unknown sensors, this paper proposes incremantal feature optimization learning. By removing individual features between different types of spoof fingerprints under the same sensor, common features are retained, thereby improving generalization. Finally, this study strategically combines distillation loss and cross-entropy loss to ensure that the model continues to learn from new fingerprint samples without losing old knowledge. Experimental evaluations conducted on the LivDet2015, LivDet2017, and LivDet2019 datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Notably, our method achieves a 2.54% reduction in ACE compared to the classical BiRi-PAD method. Furthermore, it exhibits robust generalization performance when applied to cross-sensor scenarios.

Modern microcontroller software is often written in C/C++ and suffers from control-flow hijacking vulnerabilities. Previous mitigations suffer from high performance and memory overheads and require either the presence of memory protection hardware or sophisticated program analysis in the compiler. This paper presents DeTRAP (Debug Trigger Return Address Protection). DeTRAP utilizes a full implementation of the RISC-V debug hardware specification to provide a writeprotected shadow stack for return addresses. Unlike previous work, DeTRAP requires no memory protection hardware and only minor changes to the compiler toolchain. We tested DeTRAP on an FPGA running a 32-bit RISC-V microcontroller core and found average execution time overheads to be between 0.5% and 1.9% on evaluated benchmark suites with code size overheads averaging 7.9% or less.

In recent years, web programming has increased to the extent where it is capable of rendering 3D objects on the web. Its rendering performance varied depending on where it ran and what library was used to render the objects. This study aims to investigate the rendering performance of several 3D renderer libraries that render 3D objects in an augmented reality application. WebGL is one of the APIs that uses the Javascript programming language to render 3D objects in web applications. To create augmented reality on the web, a JavaScript library called *** is needed, which allows developers to create augmented reality on the web without the need to use additional plugins. *** supports various types of augmented reality, i.e., bookmarks, images, and location-based types. It also allows developers to incorporate visual and audio effects into augmented reality. This study aims to investigate the rendering performance of WebGL raw shaders and GLSL shaders in an HTML-based augmented reality application. The results suggested that both WebGL and GLSL could render low-poly and medium-poly 3D objects well. However, according to the test, WebGL performance drops significantly when rendering high-polygon 3D objects. Nonetheless, the GLSL library could render the same high-poly 3D objects at a similar level with native library rendering performance. Thus, suggest GLSL shaders as the recommended library to render 3D objects on the web. © 2023 ACM.

Although enrollments in introductory computing courses are rising, many students still struggle to learn programming. Previous research has found that students' perceptions of the programming process may be one factor that contributes to this problem. Students often assess their own programming abilities overly harshly when experiencing low-level programming moments that are considered normal and expected parts of learning to program. For example, many students think they are doing poorly if they need to stop coding to plan. Research has also shown that students who self-assess negatively in these moments tend to have lower self-efficacy, defined as one's belief in their ability to achieve a particular outcome. In turn, students with lower self-efficacy tend not to persist in their computing studies. While the criteria that students use to assess their ability have been studied extensively, we have a limited understanding of the origins of these criteria and students' reasons for adopting them. To address this gap, we conducted a total of 36 interviews with seven introductory computer science students throughout an academic quarter. In each interview, we asked students to think aloud and explain their reasoning while filling out a self-assessment survey. Through a qualitative analysis of the data, we identified the most common reasons students gave for negatively assessing their performance, including having high expectations for their abilities and feeling like they cannot overcome a struggle. We also identified common reasons why students do not negatively assess their ability in these moments, including believing an experience is "normal" or feeling like they can learn from or overcome a struggle. These findings contribute valuable new knowledge about the underpinnings of students' self-assessments of ability, and suggest that interventions that explicitly emphasize best practices and normalize struggles in the programming learning process are needed to increase

In the human sensing system, information is transmitted, received, and processed in the form of action voltages or electrical pulses. The birth of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) has brought neural networks closer to the human brain. However, there is still a lack of a brain like model that can effectively simulate the biological auditory pathway in terms of its operational mechanism. This paper proposes a brain like auditory model that is more in line with biological speech processing mechanisms. Specifically, in the data input stage, mask encoding was introduced to simulate the masking effect in acoustics. In the feature extraction stage, a multi-scale feedback neural network was designed based on the top-down feedback mechanism in the biological auditory system. Meanwhile, the experimental results on the speech recognition task in the Google Speech Command dataset demonstrate that our auditory model has superior performance. © 2024 IEEE.
