Human-computer interaction (HCI) technology has constantly changed the life of mankind, and people's demands for interaction rise as well. From simple implementations of the instructions to the emotional interaction, a big step into the era of artificial intelligence has been made in the technology of interaction. The trend of HCI must be from mechanized computer instructions to natural language. Since more than half of the information in human's communication is contained in non-verbal factors, facial expression recognition becomes an indispensable part. In this paper, convolution neural network is used to learn the facial expression. We used two different data sets, one large but with low resolution, the other small but with high resolution. By means of the local directional number mode operator, preliminary features are extracted from the latter. For data set with low resolution, we only perform denoising and normalization to maintain the few residual features. Then a self-built data set is used to test these two models, and their generalization performance is compared by confusion matrix. Also a detailed discussion of the recognition accuracy of different expressions is given by comparison and analysis. Finally we got the accuracy of 59% and 65% respectively, and came to the conclusion that the expression Happy and Surprise own the most recognizable features, while the others are somehow similar to each other so special enhancement or classification method that focuses on the similarity should be carried out in the future.

Nowadays, there are real-time internet applications that require low latency and high bandwidth usage. In order to satisfy this requirement, many active queuing algorithms are offered, such as RED, BLUE, and controlled delay (CoDel). The number of publications aimed at evaluating the performance of the active queue management (AQM) algorithm is still limited by using a network simulator and only comparing two algorithms. The combination of AQM and connection types (fairness and no-fairness) in real network implementation has not been discussed much. In this paper, we offer a comparison of the performance of three queuing algorithms, namely DropTail, BLUE, and CoDel, with two types of connections, namely fairness and no-fairness using real network devices and internet video streaming access. Experiments carried out in the real network environment using Sandvine PL8840's bandwidth management device. The quality of services (QoS) parameters that will be compared are throughput, latency, and packet loss. The comparison results show that fairness connections on all queuing algorithms can maintain low latency values; throughput is smaller than no-fairness connections. The absence of packet loss in streaming video based on the TCP protocol does not guarantee that the video being played runs well because it depends on the available bandwidth capacity.

Just-in-time software defect prediction (JIT-SDP) is an active topic in the filed of software engineering, and many methods have been proposed to solve this problem. State-of-the-art method MULTI applies multi-objective optimization algorithm to the effort-aware JIT-SDP problem, and obtains good average performance. Although the average performance of the MULTI method is high, there are many optimal solutions with poor performance. If an optimal solution is randomly selected, a poor prediction model may be obtained. In order to further improve the performance of the MULTI method, we propose three optimal solutions selection strategies: benefit priority (BP), cost priority (CP), and a compromise between cost and benefit (CCB). In order to compare and validate the effectiveness of the strategies, we conduct a large-scale empirical study on data sets of six open source projects. The experimental results show that, compared with the average performance of MULTI, the optimal solutions selection strategy based on BP has a significant improvement in ACC and Popt indicators. Therefore, we recommend using the BP-based optimal solutions selection strategy to improve the performance of MULTI when using the MULTI method to solve the effort-aware JIT-SDP problem. © 2019 Knowledge Systems Institute Graduate School. Digital Radio over fibre (DRoF) transmission has long been considered as a promising solution for providing multiple wireless services over a single optical-wireless infrastructure for indoor and last-mile wireless coverage. However, with the increasing number of services and fast growing requirement of Internet of things (IoT), the existing technologies are not able to meet the demand of network convergence due to high capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) in managing the vast amount of digitised data. In this paper, we demonstrate a compact multi-service hybrid fibre radio scheme for both downlink and uplink where a novel digital signal processing method and a novel fronthaul protocol are implemented with high bandwidth efficiency. The system uses pluggable modular RF frontend and digital cards so as to support the increasing services dynamically. Both RFID based IoT services and several cellular services from mobile network operators (MNOs) are converged onto a single <6Gbps optical link with high spectral efficiency, modulation accuracy and RF performance. The system is experimentally demonstrated and shows low EVM for all cellular services provided from China Unicom and high detection rate and localisation accuracy for the RFID service carried over 20km optical fibre link.

In a world in high demand of engineering professionals, higher education should be effective and quality conscious. A better understanding of what type of activities that are best suited for improving students' learning could enable further improvements. In this paper, the effect of mandatory assignments on students' learning outcome in introductory programming courses is explored through a quasi-experimental research study. One group of students were exempted from the mandatory weekly assignments and followed up via biweekly sessions. A control group was recruited to follow an assignment regime in parallel. Through pre- and posttests the learning outcome of the two assignment structures was statistically evaluated. The results indicated that the group of students exempt from mandatory assignments achieved the same learning outcome as the control group. Similarly, no difference was found between the two groups on exam performance. Students have individual learning behaviors and learn to program in different ways, and the instructional design should facilitate individual learning trajectories.

Most of the WMO Global Producing Centres for Long-Range Forecasts use ensemble prediction systems together with an ensemble re-forecast dataset, also called hindcast. Both ensembles usually come from integrations of a global coupled atmosphere, ocean, land-surface and sea ice model. This article describes SLAV-INMIO-CICE coupled model developed at Marchuk Institute of Numerical Mathematics RAS, Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS and Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia. The model components are coupled using the own-developed Compact Modeling Framework. SLAV-INMIO-CICE model requires several thousands of cores of CRAY XC40 system. The performance of the model is comparable to the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts SEAS5 operational model.

The process of reengineering business processes, in our opinion, is an iterative procedure in the process of enterprise management. Each subsequent business process in the business process chain is a logical continuation of the previous one. The reengineering procedure is characterized by the presence of some feedback about the impact of each individual business process on the overall set of business processes. During the implementation of reengineering, traditional business approaches may undergo revision. Often, many business rules need to be improved and are outdated. The use of public-private partnerships, in our opinion, can be considered as elements of reengineering, since partnerships with the state can open up new business development prospects for an enterprise, and many business processes used at this enterprise can be rethought and updated. The production of high-quality and high-performance agricultural machinery can be of great importance for solving the problem of ensuring food security of the state. The use of various forms of public-private partnership allows us to speed up the solution of this problem. The implementation of economic modernization requires the full use of the economic potential of the state. This can be achieved only if public-private partnerships are effectively implemented, since they allow combining the resources of the state and private business to achieve common goals.

Scientific discoveries across all fields, from physics to biology, are increasingly driven by computer simulations. At the same time, the computational demand of many problems necessitates large-scale calculations on high-performance supercomputers. Developing and maintaining the underlying codes, however, has become a challenging task due to a combination of factors. Leadership computer systems require massive parallelism, while their architectures are diversifying. New sophisticated algorithms are continuously developed and have to be implemented efficiently for such complex systems. Finally, the multidisciplinary nature of modern science involves large, changing teams to work on a given codebase. Using the example of the DCA++ project, a highly scalable and efficient research code to solve quantum many-body problems, we explore how computational science can overcome these challenges by adopting modern software engineering approaches. We present our principles for scientific software development and describe concrete practices to meet them, adapted from agile software development frameworks. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Adders play a crucial role and are one of the fundamental building blocks in application like signal processing. In the modern scenario, integrated circuits are majorly used in which the requirement of adder module is vital. This paper addresses various forms of adders which include Ripple-carry (RC), Carry-skip (CSk), Carry-lookahead (CL) and Kogge-stone(KS) adders. These adders can meet certain design constraints in digital VLSI circuits, such as speed and area. For various bit-lengths, a new KS adder is proposed in this paper which was analyzed on the basis of delay. The proposed adder with 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128 bit-length results in 7.487ns, 9.248ns, 10.295ns, 7.259ns and 6.814ns delay respectively. 84.11% improvement has been analyzed for 128 bit KS adder in comparison with CSk adder, 88.34 % in comparison with RC adder and 88.83% in comparison with CL adder. The proposed KS architecture can be used in time critical FPGA based signal processing applications.

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have been extensively applied in a variety of tasks, including image classification, object detection, etc. However, DNNs are computationally expensive, making on-device inference impractical due to limited hardware capabilities and high energy consumption. This paper first incorporates downside risk into characteristics of per-request processing latency for DNN serving systems. Then, considering applications' diverse preferences of latency and accuracy, we introduce a scheme for assigning applications to different DNN models in an edge site, in order to maximize QoS of all applications while reducing the risk of having large processing latency and to meet requirements of minimum accuracy at the same time. Empirical results show that our approach improves system performance and takes an acceptable amount of time for computation.
