Cloud computing, the distributed computing template, is a model for providing easy access based on the user demand through changeable and configurable computing resources with the slightest need to manage the help of a heterogeneous computing system in its geographically distributed form for sharing. Task scheduling in different heterogeneous physical machines and also efficient scheduling of tasks from a program in the available resources are the key factors in achieving the high performance. The main problem of task scheduling involves assigning the functions of a program to the appropriate processors and arranging work functions in each resource. One of the crucial challenges with a significant impact on the performance of such systems is the optimal scheduling. For the purpose of study, the whale optimization algorithm for a high-performance optimal scheduling was studied in different heterogeneous environments. This meta-heuristic algorithm can find the optimal answer with great accuracy while taking advantage of the relationships between the whales. To reduce time, both the total execution time and also the maximum execution time of every task were minimized. Through this, the highest level of time consumption for the task execution would be reduced. The results show that for a large set of functions (400 and more), the total time obtained is much less than the time for the base study. As a result, for the set of1000 functions, the given improvements through the suggested method is 24.26 in the best case and 24.85 in the average mode. © 2022 IEEE.

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication, which operates at high frequencies, has gained extensive research interest due to its significantly wide spectrum and short wavelengths. However, mmWave communication suffers from the notable drawbacks as follows: i) The mmWave signals are sensitive to the blockage, which is caused by the weak diffraction ability of mmWave propagation. ii) The mmWave communication incorporating with reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) is efficient in overcoming the performance degradation caused by severe path loss. Nevertheless, the location of users and RISs as well as their densities impose a significant impact on the coverage and rate performance. Motivated by the challenges above and based on the stochastic geometry concept, we first construct distributed multi-RIS-aided mmWave communication system over Nakagami-m fading channel. Afterward, we analyze the end-to-end (E2E) signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) coverage and rate performance of the system. To improve the system performance in term of the E2E SINR coverage probability and achievable rate, we study the optimization of the phase-shifting control of the distributed RISs and optimize the E2E SINR coverage particularly when installing a large number of reflecting elements in RISs. To facilitate the study, we optimize the dynamic association criterion between the source and destination. Our simulation results demonstrate that the deployment of distributed RISs can significantly improve the E2E SINR coverage probability and achievable rate of the system compared to the selected benchmarks. © 2024 IEEE.

The field of high-performance Computing is rapidly evolving, driven by the race for computing power and the emergence of new architectures. Despite these changes, the process of launching programs has remained largely unchanged, even with the rise of hybridization and accelerators. However, there is a need to express more complex deployments for parallel applications to enable more efficient use of these machines. In this paper, we propose a transparent way to express malleability within MPI applications. This process relies on MPI process virtualization, facilitated by a dedicated privatizing compiler and a user-level scheduler. With this framework, using the MPC thread-based MPI context, we demonstrate how code can mold its resources without any software changes, opening the door to transparent MPI malleability. This study proposes a solution that extends the capabilities of web information systems with single-factor authentication by introducing an additional authentication factor based on biometric face recognition. The proposed solution design and its main operation steps are presented and discussed. The solution utilizes the standard multimedia functionality of popular web browsers and supports available or built-in image capturing devices (photo and web cameras). Robust program algorithms from the open source computer vision library are used for face image processing and analysis. Experimental testing and validation of the algorithms for face localization and recognition are conducted with image sets produced with consideration of reality. Experimental results demonstrate high effectiveness with a success rate of 80% ... 93% for the solution based on the local binary pattern face localization algorithm with the local binary pattern histogram face recognition algorithm.

Post-quantum cryptographic algorithms capable of resisting quantum computing attacks have received increasing attention in recent years, especially lattice-based cryptographic algorithms have become mainstream. Since their specialization and complex computation, the cryptographic computation is inefficient on general-purpose processors. In order to improve the performance of the processor in post-quantum cryptography computing, we have extended a set of cryptographic and vector instruction sets for the CRYSTALS-Kyber algorithm, and implemented support for custom cryptographic and vector instructions based on the open-source toolchain. These efforts can realize the compilation and disassembly of the CRYSTALS-Kyber encryption/decryption algorithm programs, and optimized the performance of the compilation. This paper mainly introduces how to design an extended instruction set based on the target algorithm and enable the compiler to support these instructions. Compared to the situation before extending custom instructions, the total number of instructions for key generation, encryption, and decryption assembly programs has decreased by 3651 times, and the total number of execution cycles has decreased by 2195 times. © 2023 ACM.

Early detection and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma has an important impact on improving the survival rate of patients. computer-aided detection based on deep learning methods can automatically detect the presence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma on patient magnetic resonance images (MRI), assisting in the assessment of tumor progression. However, large-scale annotation of MRI images is not feasible because it is time-consuming and burdens the healthcare system. This paper proposes a weakly supervised nasopharyngeal carcinoma detection method suitable for MRI images, which can obtain better detection performance with a small amount of labeled data. We first generate a pseudo-color version of the MRI image based on a multi-window sampling method, which preserves richer information and improves the information utilization of the image. Then, active learning and deep learning are combined to construct an active detection model for nasopharyngeal cancer, and the most representative image set is selected from a large-scale unlabeled set by using instance-level image uncertainty for further annotation by experts, which significantly reduces the demand for image annotation in deep network. The proposed method is verified on the MRI image set of 800 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The experimental results show that the resampling method based on multi-window settings can improve the performance of the classical depth detection model by 1.5 %, while the active detection model of nasopharyngeal carcinoma only uses 20 % labeled data to achieve 92.6 % of the performance of the deep learning detector trained with all samples. Good performance is obtained when the label set is small. Our active detection method for nasopharyngeal carcinoma can detect the lesion area of nasopharyngeal carcinoma with high accuracy without large-scale labeled data, which significantly reduces the sample labeling burden of doctors. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The traditional method of data plane programming involves deploying a single P4 program to a single target. However, different targets have varying capabilities, functionalities, and support for various programming languages beyond P4. Therefore, disaggregating a single data plane program into multiple subprograms that run on different targets can allow us to leverage the strengths of each target, which becomes particularly important in the context of 5G, where some data plane processing functions, such as buffering and retransmission for RLC processing, cannot be effectively expressed in P4. This paper delves into the decomposition of a 5G gNB across a P4-programmable SmartNIC and an x86 server using DPDK-based processing, thus harnessing the strengths of each target. Our evaluation revealed that offloading certain processing to an x86 server can improve throughput by up to 50%, thanks to the scalability of DPDK applications' performance with the number of CPU cores. However, offloading does introduce a slight increase in latency, so the approach should be adjusted based on the specific needs and available resources. © 2024 IFIP.

Gesture recognition using sensor data generated from mobile devices is used as a crucial part of human-computer interaction systems. These applications must allow users to easily add new gestures, and a continuous learning process is essential. However, retraining through the server is frequently required whenever a new gesture is added, resulting in significant power consumption. To address this problem, this paper presents the first on-device continual learning framework to continuously learn gestures on smartphones with limited resources. We introduce a continual gesture recognition system (CGRS) that uses replay-based continual learning. This approach retains previously learned information while simultaneously adapting to new gestures. We used replay buffer management technology to minimize memory usage on mobile devices with limited resources. CGRS achieved a high accuracy of 99.17% by evaluating continual learning performance as new gestures are added. Additionally, we successfully developed an application that can run on the Galaxy S10, a mobile device. © 2024 IEEE.

With the help of deep learning, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have achieved remarkable progress in various fields. However, due to the limitation of the message passing mechanism of GNNs, there exists an upper limit on its expressiveness. Some high-order GNNs have achieved good results in expressiveness, but they also have shortcomings in complexity and real-world performance. In this paper, we attempt to provide a graph neural network architecture that simultaneously addresses expressiveness, complexity and real-world performance. To this end, we propose Spatially constrained Random walk diffusion structural Encoding (SRE) to encode structural information and can be used for any GNN under our architecture. Our extensive and diverse experiments on datasets of different types and sizes demonstrate the superior expressiveness and state-of-the-art performance of our architecture on real-world tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

Attributable to its high precision and strong interference resistance capability, the ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning technology has been widely researched as a wireless positioning technology for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in global positioning denied and satellite signals blocked areas. The reliability of a solitary sensory input source may be compromised in such environmental conditions. Nevertheless, the environment variation still increases the estimation complexity of the measurement noise for UWB sensors. On the other hand, the loosely synchronized clock between the sensor nodes also limits the positioning performance of the existing UWB system. A fused positioning method with a clock-offset-compensated time difference of arrival (TDOA) positioning algorithm and extended Kalman filter (EKF) is presented in this paper to address these issues. According to the simulation results, the proposed approach attains a centimeter-level accuracy (the 95th percentile error is 0.076 m) and improves the standard deviation to 0.033 m. © 2024 IEEE.
