Hyperspectral image unmixing is an important part of hyperspectral data analysis. The mixed pixel decomposition consists of two steps, endmember (the unique signatures of pure ground components) extraction and abundance (the proportion of each endmember in each pixel) estimation. Recently, a Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (DPSO) was proposed for accurately extract endmembers with high optimal performance. However, the DPSO algorithm shows very high computational complexity, which makes the endmember extraction procedure very time consuming for hyperspectral image unmixing. Thus, in this paper, the DPSO endmember extraction algorithm was parallelized, implemented on the CUDA (GPU K20) platform, and evaluated by real hyperspectral remote sensing data. The experimental results show that with increasing the number of particles the parallelized version obtained much higher computing efficiency while maintain the same endmember exaction accuracy.

Based on the scattering effect of optical vortex, the remote sensing for aerosol particles in marine atmosphere is investigated. The influences of orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode and beam width of Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam on the performance on the remote sensing for aerosol particles in marine atmosphere are analyzed numerically. The scattering properties of aerosol particles by LG beam are more sensitive to the change of relative humidity, compared to that of plane wave and Gaussian beam (GB). remote sensing systems based on LG beam with OAM modes show superiority over traditional plane wave and Gaussian beam cases in detecting the changes in relative humidity of marine atmosphere aerosol. Results also indicate that, when the number of OAM modes p (l) increase, the Radar CrossSection (RCS) of aerosol particles alternating appear extreme values in the forward and backward scattering, because of the special ring-shaped distribution of LG beam. The forward and backward scattering of aerosol particles decrease with the increase in beam waist. As beam waist is less than the radius of aerosol particle, there exists a minimum value in the forward direction.

The present paper has suggested a technology for search, indexing, cataloging and distribution of aerospace images on the basis of geo-information approach, cluster and spectral analysis. It has considered information and algorithmic support of the system. Functional circuit of the system and structure of the geographical data base have been developed on the basis of the geographical online portal technology. Taking into account heterogeneity of information obtained from various sources it is reasonable to apply a geoinformation platform that allows analyzing space location of objects and territories and executing complex processing of information. Geoinformation platform is based on cartographic fundamentals with the uniform coordinate system, the geographical data base, a set of algorithms and program modules for execution of various tasks. The technology for adding by particular users and companies of images taken by means of professional and amateur devices and also processed by various software tools to the array system has been suggested. Complex usage of visual and instrumental approaches allows significantly expanding an application area of Earth remote sensing data. Development and implementation of new algorithms based on the complex usage of new methods for processing of structured and unstructured data of high volumes will increase periodicity and rate of data updating. The paper has shown that application of original algorithms for search, indexing and cataloging of aerospace images will provide an easy access to information spread by hundreds of suppliers and allow increasing an access rate to aerospace images up to 5 times in comparison with current analogues.

Supervised classification allows handling a wide range of remote sensing hyperspectral applications. Enhancing the spatial organization of the pixels over the image has proven to be beneficial for the interpretation of the image content, thus increasing the classification accuracy. Denoising in the spatial domain of the image has been shown as a technique that enhances the structures in the image. This paper proposes a multi-component denoising approach in order to increase the classification accuracy when a classification method is applied. It is computed on multicore CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs. The method combines feature extraction based on a 1D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) applied in the spectral dimension followed by an Extended Morphological Profile (EMP) and a classifier (SVM or ELM). The multi-component noise reduction is applied to the EMP just before the classification. The denoising recursively applies a separable 2D DWT after which the number of wavelet coefficients is reduced by using a threshold. Finally, inverse 2D-DWT filters are applied to reconstruct the noise free original component. The computational cost of the classifiers as well as the cost of the whole classification chain is high but it is reduced achieving real-time behavior for some applications through their computation on NVIDIA multi-GPU platforms.

Based on the scattering effect of vortex beams, the remote sensing for aerosol particles in different atmosphere environments is investigated. In this paper we regard the aerosol particle to a coated-spherical particle other than an uniform single particle as it's more consistent with the way it exists in the actual atmosphere. The influences of orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode, the beam width of vortex beams, the outer and inner radius on the performance on the remote sensing for coated-spherical particles in marine atmosphere are analyzed numerically. Results indicated that the runtime will sharply increase when the number of the orbital angular momentum modes is large enough. Therefore, the parallel acceleration technology is used by us in this paper to solve this problem.

In this paper we simulate and evaluate the mobile system related to its mobile application by using suitable queuing models to provide best performance based on its QoS.

The special features of Stereo Imaging for LiDAR and hyperspectral sensor are multi-source data and complex algorithm, which will bring huge challenges to embedded real-time processing. To improve system performance, efficient software design is important. In this paper, based on the hardware platform with FPGA+2C6678, a hierarchical parallel model for software design is studied. In intermediate layer, an adaptive dynamic scheduling strategy and a two-stage pipeline parallel architecture based on message transmission are presented, which provide efficient connection between the top application design and the bottom hardware environment. The results indicate that this model is strongly supportive for the high-performance of embedded system, and is beneficial for the open and universal design.

In this paper, we demonstrate a single layer X-band (8-12 GHz) metamaterials substrate antenna for generating orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam. The proposed design consists of a series of phase-shift unit cells to control the emergent phase, whose function is same as spiral phase plate (SPP). The SPP uses the concept of reflectarray antenna having a double circular ring type unit cell to control the reflection phase for generating beams carrying OAM wave. The results of phase patterns simulation verify that the vortex radio waves can be generated by using sub-wavelength reflective metamaterials substrate antenna. From the perspective of the electromagnetic calculation, we can use high performance computing to reduce the computation time

Future onboard computing applications require signi ficantly greater computing performance than is currently provided by standard space qualified onboard computers. Examples of such applications include onboard data analysis and (rendezvous) navigation tasks. Therefore, the German Aerospace Center is currently developing Scalable On-board computing for Space Avionics (ScOSA). The aim of the ScOSA onboard computing platform is to deliver high performance, reliability, scalability and cost-efficiency. To reach these properties, a distributed computing platform approach is used, by which reliable radiation hardened computing nodes (LEON3's) are combined with several high performance computing nodes (Xilinx Zynq), connected over a high-bandwidth SpaceWire network. The execution platform consists of a distributed task-based framework. In this paper, the architecture, features and capabilities of the ScOSA onboard computing platform are presented from an application developer's view. A brief summary of the design goals and the general hardware and software architecture of the ScOSA system will be introduced. This is followed by a description of the programming model and the application interface, with a focus on how the distributed nature of the ScOSA system is handled. It will also be shown how an existing application can be integrated in the ScOSA system. The main part of this paper will focus on the computing performance attainable from the ScOSA platform. There will be a comparison of the computing performance of an example application executed on the ScOSA system versus a standard PC. It will also be demonstrated how the performance of an application can be improved by adapting it to the distributed computing architecture of the ScOSA platform. Furthermore, a short overview of the failure detection and recovery features of the ScOSA platform are described and how they can be integrated into an application.

Spaceborne sensors systems are characterized by scarce onboard computing and storage resources and by communication links with reduced bandwidth. Random projections techniques have been demonstrated as an effective and very light way to reduce the number of measurements in hyperspectral data, thus, the data to be transmitted to the Earth station is reduced. However, the reconstruction of the original data from the random projections may be computationally expensive. SpeCA is a blind hyperspectral reconstruction technique that exploits the fact that hyperspectral vectors often belong to a low dimensional subspace. SpeCA has shown promising results in the task of recovering hyperspectral data from a reduced number of random measurements. In this manuscript we focus on the implementation of the SpeCA algorithm for graphics processing units (GPU) using the compute unified device architecture (CUDA). Experimental results conducted using synthetic and real hyperspectral datasets on the GPU architecture by NVIDIA: GeForce GTX 980, reveal that the use of GPUs can provide real-time reconstruction. The achieved speedup is up to 22 times when compared with the processing time of SpeCA running on one core of the Intel i7-4790K CPU (3.4GHz), with 32 Gbyte memory.
