In traditional fractal image coding schemes, domain blocks are constrained to be twice as large as range blocks in order to ensure the convergence of the iterative decoding stage. However, this constraint has limited the fractal encoder to exploit the self-similarity of the original image. In order to overcome the shortcoming, a novel scheme using same sized range and domain blocks is proposed in the letter. Experimental results show the remarkable improvement in compression ratio and image quality.

The JPEG compression techniques are known as a standardlossy compression techniques for images. In this paper, an adaptive approach is proposed where some changes in the quantization stage are made. The proposed approach mainly changes on the quantization matrix, according to the context of each image. Moreover, the adaptive approach has been developed to work as an encryption system that enables users to restore the original images after decompressing them. Compared to the standard JPEG quantization matrix, the proposed approach introduces an efficient compression system that decreases error rate in several tested scenarios, And efficient encryption system has been obtained as well.

New algorithm of classified vector quantization based on wavelet transform for image coding is presented. According to the similarity in the same orientation but different levels of the discrete wavelet transform domain, this paper proposes a new algorithm of multiresolutional classified vector quantization. This algorithm exploits an efficient classifier to classify the vectors and uses the class information of the higher lever to instruct the vector classification of the lower lever by taking advantaging of the similarity. Simulation results show that this algorithm can get the higher imagecompression ratio and pleasant quality of the reconstructed image in comparison with others.

This paper presents a multispectral imagecompression method based on vector quantization technique that uses fuzzy c-means, (FCM) algorithm to generate the codebook. There are two ways to form the vector set from the input image: the intraband vector forming where each vector was formed by dividing the input image into blocks, and the interband vector forming where each vector was formed by the gray values of all bands representing a pixel. The compression is based on a hierarchical structure called SPIHT(Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees). This compression is followed by an encryption scheme PSCS (Parametric Switching Chaotic System). The performances of this technique were evaluated in terms of compression quality and data security. In ancient times, there was a need to protect data. Due to the pervasive range in the field of security, several technologies came into existence. But the whole idea of securing data from attacks took a quick turn in the world of Internet. Here, data accuracy is the major issue. As in the previous existing methods, compression of data becomes an important research field that provides an efficient way for compressed data transmission over the Internet. The technique proposed here publicizes the concept of reliability and transmission mechanism. This is a faster and simple method of compression, and describes different lossless imagecompression algorithms for high performance. We propose a novel content based-image retrieval scheme for encryption-then-compression (EtC) images. In conventional retrieval schemes for EtC images, the JPEG standard was applied to EtC images as a compression method, although EtC images can be applied to both JPEG compression and lossless compression methods such as JPEG-LS. In contrast, the proposed retrieval scheme allows the mixed-use of lossless and lossy-compression methods. In an experiment, the proposed method is demonstrated to maintain a high retrieval performance, even under the mixed-use of lossless- and lossy-compressed EtC images.

The demand for a high performance image acquisition and processing technology is increasing due to wide usage of Multimedia Applications. The algorithm presented in this paper achieves high performance in terms of imagecompression by incorporating dynamically varying compression which is determined by the level of compression (bits per pixel(BPP)) and PSNR specified by the user. In order to make the algorithm more robust, an encryption module is also included which takes the encryption key as a user input to avoid hard coded key values. Pixel reshuffling is also included for improved data security. The proposed algorithm is implemented on hardware - Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) to test the effectiveness of the algorithm. The algorithm was simulated in Verilog on vivado 2014.3.1 and implemented on Kintex 7 FPGA which uses TSMC's 28 nanometer CMOS technology. In this paper, we propose a fractal image coding technique based on error-control method. By analyzing error gap between collage error and reconstruction error, we make correction to the selected domain blocks to reduce the collage error as well as the error gap. In this way, the reconstruction error is substantially reduced, and the collage theory is corrected. In simulation experimentation, we have got obvious incremental performance under condition of almost similar compression ratio with classical fractal image coding theory.
