Benchmark datasets and their corresponding evaluation protocols are commonly used by the computer vision community, in a variety of application domains, to assess the performance of existing systems. Even though text detection and recognition in video has seen much progress in recent years, relatively little work has been done to propose standardized annotations and evaluation protocols especially for Arabic Video-OCR systems. In this paper, we present a framework for evaluating text detection in videos. Additionally, dataset, ground-truth annotations and evaluation protocols, are provided for Arabic text detection. Moreover, two published text detection algorithms are tested on a part of the AcTiV database and evaluated using a set of the proposed evaluation protocols.

The overall goal of this work is to develop a rapid, accurate and fully automated software tool to estimate patient-specific organ doses from computed tomography (CT) scans using a deterministic Boltzmann Transport Equation solver and automated CT segmentation algorithms. This work quantified the accuracy of organ dose estimates obtained by an automated segmentation algorithm. The investigated algorithm uses a combination of feature-based and atlas-based methods. A multi atlas approach was also investigated. We hypothesize that the autosegmentation algorithm is sufficiently accurate to provide organ dose estimates since random errors at the organ boundaries will average out when computing the total organ dose. To test this hypothesis, twenty head-neck CT scans were expertly segmented into nine regions. A leave-one-out validation study was performed, where every case was automatically segmented with each of the remaining cases used as the expert atlas, resulting in nineteen automated segmentations for each of the twenty datasets. The segmented regions were applied to gold-standard Monte Carlo dose maps to estimate mean and peak organ doses. The results demonstrated that the fully automated segmentation algorithm estimated the mean organ dose to within 10% of the expert segmentation for regions other than the spinal canal, with median error for each organ region below 2%. In the spinal canal region, the median error was 7% across all data sets and atlases, with a maximum error of 20%. The error in peak organ dose was below 10% for all regions, with a median error below 4% for all organ regions. The multiple-case atlas reduced the variation in the dose estimates and additional improvements may be possible with more robust multi-atlas approaches. Overall, the results support potential feasibility of an automated segmentation algorithm to provide accurate organ dose estimates.

In this paper brings out Farey sequence and its applications to image processing for cerebrum images. This proposed system diminishes computational complexity, computation time and minimizing computational floating point blunder rate. We show how this technique can be connected in developing fast image processing algorithms for brain images for minimizing total floating point error rate by simulating algorithm using Matlab ® reproduction bundle. Acquired results from calculations are quicker and easier to justify than those previously known in the image processing literature.

Many steganographic algorithms have been proposed until these days. They all try to hide information by relying on some of well-known techniques. However, each of these techniques has its advantages and also its drawbacks. In this paper, we have investigated a possibility of using tool known as Mojette Transform for modifying and scrambling a binary image containing secret information. The image after these processes should resemble noisy picture. Modified image is then embedded into the least significant bit plane of cover image. The used techniques should result in better values of parameters as MSE, or PSNR in comparison with performance of the classical Least Significant Bit steganography.

Along with the rapid development of stereoscopic cinematography in the last few years, efficient 3D video diagnostic tools are increasingly in demand. The tools dedicated for real-time video analysis and assessment directly on the movie set are aimed at facilitation, acceleration and cost-cutting of movie production. It causes the growing interest in development of high-performance and reliable algorithms for stereoscopic video processing. One of the algorithms strictly related to 3D video processing is image rectification. It is aimed at transformation of the stereopair images in such a way that epipolar lines are horizontal and match up between views. The rectification is often a required preprocessing step for depth estimation algorithms because it simplifies searching for matching points in stereo images. The paper presents an overview and comparison of image rectification methods for the application in real-time diagnostic tools for stereoscopic cinematography. It also describes the implementation and evaluation of the rectification algorithm based on [1] that has been finally selected for the needs of diagnostic tool for stereo rig calibration and disparity map estimation developed by the authors. Described algorithm ensures very accurate image alignment and minimization of vertical disparity for the needs of disparity map calculation. Moreover, it is resistant to lens distortions in input image and does not introduce significant distortions in output image preserving the original viewpoint of the cameras.

This paper demonstrates the adaptive illumination methods for the implementations of Colorimetric (also known as absorbance detection), Fluorescence and Luminescence ELISA models using a standalone or mobile imaging setup with data processing techniques and prediction algorithms. These ELISA modelling systems, mainly depend on the quality of the images and the image processing algorithms employed for accuracy and reliability. The assay concentration estimations for such systems are greatly dependent upon the light absorbance and transmittance properties of the chemical compounds that make up the analytic biochemistry assay and are highly influenced by the quality and intensity of the backlight panel used in these device setups. The goal is to develop an independent lighting module which would subsequently result in better images, and a more accurate system that would be applicable for a wide variety of ELISA imaging systems.

This work proposes a textual and graphical domain-specific language (DSL) designed especially for modeling and writing data and image processing algorithms. Since reusing algorithms and other functionality leads to higher program quality and mostly shorter development time, this approach introduces a novel component-based language design. Special diagrams and structures, such as components, component-diagrams and component-instance-diagrams are introduced. The new language constructs allow an abstract and object-oriented description of data and image processing tasks. Additionally, a compatible graphical design interface is proposed, giving modelers and architects the opportunity to decide which kind of modeling they prefer (graphical or textual, including round-trip engineering).

A novel high- speed image super-resolution algorithm based on sparse representation for MEMS defect detection is proposed in this paper. Traditional super-resolution algorithms adopt a single dictionary to represent images, which cannot differentiate varieties of image blocks and leads to slow processing speed. Aiming at overcoming this shortage of traditional super-resolution algorithms, image blocks are divided into different categories by local features and each of these categories possesses the corresponding high and low resolution dictionary pairs. Experimental results of different MEMS defects show that the improved algorithm can obtain images of little lower quality with much less processing time, indicating that the proposed algorithm is more suitable for MEMS defect detection.

Many image processing algorithms have been parallelized successfully on many-core processors, such as GPU and Intel Xeon Phi. In this paper, we choose the Sunway many-core processor SW26010, which is a new processor designed and made in China that constitutes the current NO.1 supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight. This paper firstly introduces the architecture of Sunway SW26010 processor and two representative image processing algorithms: local binary pattern (LBP) and histogram of oriented gradient (HOG). Furthermore we propose a method of parallel implementation, and the experimental results of this method show that the speedup can be up to 170 for LBP and 33 for HOG. Then two optimized methods are brought forward based on this parallel implementation, including the optimization of program and parallel design. We optimize the program by using the method that combined step transmission and software prefetching. From the experiment results of the first optimization we can know that the maximum speedup can reach 310 for LBP with processing high-resolution images and 83 for HOG. Then we optimize the parallel design by using a coarse grained parallel method, and the experimental results show that the speedup can be up to 370 for LBP and 95 for HOG when processing low-resolution images. Finally, we investigate the scalability of our parallelism on the Sunway TaihuLight with different number of processor nodes, and the experiment results prove that the two algorithms' parallel design and implementation have better expansibility.

Mutual information (MI) is a very important concept in medical image registration for a diagnosis. During the past decade, there have been a large number of studies on multimodal image registration. This extensive attention is due to its high performance in terms of accuracy and robustness. However, there are so many different perspectives on MI that have been discussed and proposed during the last two decades. As a result, it is very difficult to have a holistic view of the field and to select an appropriate method to solve a specific problem in medical image analysis. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel taxonomy of MI approaches used in medical image registration. In our work, we extensively and comprehensively investigate works proposed in the literature and systematically classify them based on methods of computational processing. Our taxonomy will help to enhance an understanding of various principles of mutual information.
