Research has been done to extract fabric characteristics from its 2D images. Based upon analyzing such characteristics, this paper focuses on automatically identifying and recognizing different clothing fabrics. Through analyzing digital image, its feature extraction system is designed. Clothing fabric folds can be extracted by digital image re-processing. The measurement and calculation depends on the characteristics of the whole folds, which focus on analyzing the differences between fabric folds, then designing the algorithms to identify different clothing fabrics. Based upon analyzing its fold image, clothing fabric information can be extracted to obtain the ratio of length and width, height, and the ratio of area and perimeter. The different fabric types can be classified (classifies) depending upon such parameters. Comparison with these references of the different fabrics shows that such method can be used to represent fabric folds characteristics. By using these indicators to compare the effect of different fabrics, it is found out(We notice) that these indicators can be taken as reflection and description for fabric identification.

Currently, a multitude of systems are developed that process a continuous flow of images. They are used, for example, for video surveillance, inspection and control of products manufactured in production lines, automatic guidance of robots, vehicles, etc. For these systems to be useful, they must be able to process and store images at a minimum frequency. Therefore, when designing these systems it will be essential to determine the frequency at which they can operate depending on the characteristics of the images, the algorithms used to process them, and the computer hardware selected. Despite the importance of estimating and adjusting the performance of these imaging systems, there are hardly any methodologies for developing the performance engineering of them. With the aim of covering this gap, this article presents a simple experimental method to develop the performance engineering of the imageprocessingsystems and in particular to determine their maximum operational frequency or throughput. Using the proposed method, any performance engineer can determine the maximum working frequency of a system systematically and check that it exceeds the minimum required frequency. In addition, the engineer can also obtain the necessary information to reconfigure the system, eliminate performance bottlenecks, and take advantage of the computing power of the hardware properly.

image filters have become a popular feature of photo editing software and camera phones. Filter identification can provide useful information for us to determine source and processing history of images. Currently, there is no forensic work done to perform filter identification. In this paper, we propose a framework to search for color correlations left by different filters in a set of interpolation residuals obtained from various demosaicing algorithms. To effectively capture the structures of color correlations, we design a diverse set of geometric co-occurrence patterns and gather both intra-channel and inter-channel color dependencies using co-occurrence matrices. Experiments conducted on two large image databases full demonstrate the ability of our framework to identify a wide range of filters provided by both cameras and third-party software.

Textual overlays/labels add contextual information in Augmented Reality (AR) applications. The spatial placement of labels is a challenging task due to constraints that labels (i) are not occluding the object/scene of interest, and, (ii) are optimally placed for better interpretation of scene. To this end, we present a novel method for optimal placement of labels for AR. We formulate this method by an objective function that minimizes both occlusion with visually salient regions in scenes of interest, and the temporal jitter for facilitating coherence in real-time AR applications. The main focus of proposed algorithm is real-time label placement on low-end android phones/tablets. The sophisticated state-of-the-art algorithms for optimal positioning of textual label work only on the images and are often inefficient for real-time performance on those devices. We demonstrate the efficiency of our method by porting the algorithm on a smart-phone/tablet. Further, we capture objective and subjective metrics to determine the efficacy of the method; objective metrics include computation time taken for determining the label location and Label Occlusion over Saliency (LOS) score over salient regions in the scene. Subjective metrics include position, temporal coherence in the overlay, color and responsiveness.

High-speed visual servo systems are used in an increasing number of applications. Yet modeling and optimizing these systems remains a research challenge, largely because these systems consist of tightly-coupled design parameters across multiple domains, including image sensors, vision algorithms, processingsystems, mechanical systems, control systems, among others. To overcome such a challenge, this work applies an axiomatic design method to the design of high-speed visual servo systems, such that cross-domain couplings are explicitly modeled and subsequently eliminated when possible. More importantly, methods are proposed to model the sample rate, measurement error, and delay of visual feedback based on design parameters across multiple domains. Lastly, methods to construct a holistic model and to perform cross-domain optimization are proposed. The proposed methods are applied to a representative case study that demonstrates the necessity of cross-domain modeling and optimization, as well as the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

A method for penalized likelihood tomographic reconstruction is presented which is based on a spatially adaptive stochastic image model. The model imposes onto the image a smoothing Gaussian prior whose parameters follow a Gamma distribution. Three variations of the model are examined: (i) a stationary model, where the Gamma distribution has the same constant parameter for the entire image, (ii) a non stationary model, where this parameter varies with respect to location and (iii) a non stationary directional model where the parameter varies also with respect to orientation (horizontal or vertical direction). In all cases, the MAP criterion provides a closed form solution for both the unknown image and the parameters of the model. Numerical experiments showed that the reconstructions obtained using the proposed image priors outperform the state of the art EM based methods.

Uneven illumination and shadows in document images cause a challenge for digitization applications and automated workflows. In this work, we propose a new method to recover unshadowed document images from images with shadows/un-even illumination. We pose this problem as one of estimating the shading and reflectance components of the given original image. Our method first estimates the shading and uses it to compute the reflectance. The output reflectance map is then used to improve the shading and the process is repeated in an iterative manner. The iterative procedure allows for a gradual compensation and allows our algorithm to even handle difficult hard shadows without introducing any artifacts. Experiments over two different datasets demonstrate the efficacy of our algorithm and the low computation complexity makes it suitable for most practical applications.
