A recent and fascinating interest in computational symmetry for computer vision and computer graphics applications has led to a remarkable realization of new symmetry detection algorithms. Such a concern is culminated in a symmetry detection competition as a workshop affiliated with the 2011 and 2013 CVPR conferences. In this paper, we propose a method based on the computation of the symmetry level associated to each pixel. Such a value is determined through the energy balance of the even/odd decomposition of a patch with respect to a central axis (which is equivalent to estimate the middle point of a row-wise convolution). Peaks localization along the perpendicular direction of each angle allows to identify possible symmetry axes. The evaluation of a feature based on gradient information allows to establish a classification confidence for each detected axis. By adopting the aforementioned rigorous validation framework, the proposed method indicates significant performance increase.

image is a potential standard to convey information. Impulse noise degrades the image during image transmission and acquisition. The most important task of imageprocessing is noise filtering and image enhancement. De-noising the degraded image is an important research region in imageprocessing. Many de-noising proposals established which used standard median filter or its alterations to suppress noise. In this analysis paper, different algorithms for exclusion of different impulse noise and their performance over different noise circumstances are discussed. Each and every scheme has its benefits and drawbacks. The relative study assist in detection of most proficient algorithms in terms of edge preservation and noise suppression to restore the original image to the finest potential level. Most of the systems are suitable for some particular noise models, and does not perform effectively on other kind of noise models.

The paper discusses the application of System on Chip devices for processing Megapixel video streams. The domain of imageprocessing using high resolution images is very demanding in the scope of calculating power and frequently exploits special processing hardware. The progress of integration technology brings about SoC which are capable of meeting such processing demands. Characteristics of FPGA and DSP based systems are assessed. A concise survey of chip solutions is presented and a pair of representative systems is chosen for comparison of their properties. The design of a smoke detection system is used for evaluating the advantages and drawbacks of using such SoC solutions. Almost identical imageprocessingalgorithms are implemented in the case of FPGA and DSP. Both solutions meet the imageprocessing requirements and are suitable for real time processing. FPGA based solution is much faster as it uses pipelining for improving the utilisation of scarce memory resources.

Super-resolution reconstruction algorithms have been extensively studied for the last years. However, despite the progress made in this field, many issues remain to be solved. Some of them are basically omitted and their importance is trivialized. Routinely, for instance, researchers are willing to make the relative motion model simpler than it should be considered. The commonly applied non-rigid registration method being manually defined does not capture the real motion characteristics that could occur in image sequences. This work extends Iterative Back Projection (IBP) framework in several ways. It nests image priors, deblurring and a discrete dense displacement sampling for the deformable registration of high-resolution images at its core. Applying these constraints to a global optimum of the cost function can be calculated efficiently exploiting dynamic programming. It leads to the smoothness of the deformations of the image's features. This paper proposes an improved super-resolution method while making no compromise on image quality. The author experiment results confirmed the empirical observations, in particular, that the state of the art registration algorithm and blur and noise estimate procedures, as well as image priors, lead to promising results.

As far as the safety of a driver is concerned, more focus should be put on correct interpretation and information which is conveyed by a traffic sign, while driving a vehicle along the road. A sign board can be thought of as an emblem which disseminates important and meaningful information regarding the potential hazards prevailing among road users comprising roadways cladded with snowfall, construction worksites or repairing of roads taking place and telling the people to follow an alternative route. It alerts the person who is passing through the road about the maximum possible extremity that his vehicle is trying to achieve indicating slowing down the speed of vehicle since chances of having collision cannot be ruled out. With constant increasing of the training database size, not only there cognition accuracy, but also the computation complexity should be considered in designing a feasible recognition approach. The traffic sign images were acquired from the image database and were subjected to some pre-processing techniques such as conversion of the original RGB images into HSV Color Space, Adjustment of the Contrast of the Color images as well as applying the Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) algorithm in which the process of extraction and plotting of the HOG features from a given image is performed that is most popular amongst the feature extraction algorithms. Floods are natural disasters which cause the most economic damage at the global level. Therefore, flood monitoring and damage estimation are very important for the population, authorities and insurance companies. The paper proposes an original solution, based on a hybrid network and complex imageprocessing, to this problem. As first novelty, a multilevel system, with two components, terrestrial and aerial, was proposed and designed by the authors as support for image acquisition from a delimited region. The terrestrial component contains a Ground Control Station, as a coordinator at distance, which communicates via the internet with more Ground Data Terminals, as a fixed nodes network for data acquisition and communication. The aerial component contains mobile nodesfixed wing type UAVs. In order to evaluate flood damage, two tasks must be accomplished by the network: area coverage and imageprocessing. The second novelty of the paper consists of texture analysis in a deep neural network, taking into account new criteria for feature selection and patch classification. Color and spatial information extracted from chromatic co-occurrence matrix and mass fractal dimension were used as well. Finally, the experimental results in a real mission demonstrate the validity of the proposed methodologies and the performances of the algorithms.
