Process monitoring is used in many different laser material processes due to the demand for reliable and stable processes. Among different methods, on-axis process monitoring offers multiple advantages. To observe a laser material process it is unavoidable to choose a wavelength for observation that is different to the one used for material processing, otherwise the light of the processing laser would outshine the picture of the process. By choosing a different wavelength, lateral chromatic aberration occurs in not chromatically corrected optical systems with optical scanning units and f-Theta lenses. These aberrations lead to a truncated image of the process on the camera or the pyrometer, respectively. This is the reason for adulterated measurements and non-satisfying images of the process. A new approach for solving the problem of field dependent lateral chromatic aberration in process monitoring is presented. Therefore, the scanner-based optical system is reproduced in a simulation environment, to predict the occurring lateral chromatic aberrations. In addition, a second deflecting system is integrated into the system. By using simulation, a predictive control is designed that uses the additional deflecting system to introduce reverse lateral deviations in order to compensate the lateral effect of chromatic aberration. This paper illustrates the concept and the implementation of the predictive control, which is used to eliminate lateral chromatic aberrations in process monitoring, the simulation on which the system is based the optical system as well as the control concept.

Content-Based image Retrieval (CBIR) aims to retrieve similar graphical objects from large databases based on their contents. CBIR requires definition of descriptors, algorithms that condense information from the object in order to represent it usually as a real number or a vector in Rn. This article presents the Spectral Descriptor, a new descriptor designed for retrieving three-dimensional geometric objects applied to aid the diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Our descriptor is based on techniques of compressive sensing and rewrites the coordinates of 3D objects vertices on a basis on which they have a sparse representation. Tests with surfaces reconstructed from heart MRI images, specifically from left ventricle, show that the descriptor has presented a good performance, reaching an average precision of approximately 85% for CHF and 71% for non-CHF cases, maintaining high levels of precision. Results also showed that the Spectral Descriptor can decrease the high dimensionality of features vectors in CBIR systems.

An instrument to improve the quality of life in large cities, helping to reduce the car traffic, is presented in this paper. It will result in a mobile guidance software that will help the drivers looking for a parking place to find it efficiently. SmartPark relies on available parking information systems, as well as on new sensors or even on social data inputs. A fixed magnetic on-street sensor and a video processing smart camera have been developed and prototypes of both devices were tested. Their data is available through a cloud-based Internet of Things infrastructure and continuously updated every few seconds. Databases will be built over time enabling data mining methods to infer parking availability models over time which will be used, eventually, by the algorithms feeding the mobile application.

An important element of the modern automated control systems, monitoring and remote access is to obtain primary information about the state and behavior of static or moving objects. To obtain such information we propose to use photo and video detectors, which could provide images of objects with high resolution in the system. Thus, the possibility of determining the geometric and kinematic parameters of the moving object are significantly reduced because of the different aspects of producing an image, one of these aspects is the blur. The geometric parameters of the object are determined by analyzing the blur of its images obtained at different settings of the photodetector. In this paper, algorithms of processing of primary information are improved by the use of methods and procedures of statistical analysis and probabilistic approach. It increases the accuracy of determined characteristics, the applicability of procedures for the calculation of state parameters (size, shape, distance from observer) and behavior parameters of the object (speed and direction) and reduces the computational complexity of the final algorithm. The research allows not only determine the geometric parameters of the object, but also to evaluate their accuracy and to develop elements of the algorithm that can be used in real systems of video monitoring

Signal processing subsystem is the core of a radar system, the performance and the design cycle of which could directly influence the implementation of the whole system. Therefore, how to realize a high-performance flexible universal real-time SAR signal processing system is one of the main challenges nowadays. The paper proposes the design architecture and implementation of a high-performance real-time SAR signal processing system with the TI's latest multi-core DSP TMS320C6678 based on the VPX 3U standard. It shows the strong computation ability, stability, easy reconstruction and good adaptability to a variety of imaging algorithms. By the successful application cases of the multi-mode, multi-polarization, multi-resolution space-borne and airborne real-time SAR imaging systems, its flexibility and high-performance could be adequately proved. Moreover, our experiment result indicates that a SAR RD algorithm takes only 21.55s for a 0.2m* 0.2m resolution 4GB(16Kx32K complex points) image, achieving realtime performance.
